If the new iPhone 5 is not LTE, and utilized HSPA+ on T-Mobile's network, I would consider switching to Verizon, as T-Mobile does have good 4G coverage where I live. Verizon 3G is so slow much of the time.

Confirmed 2 of 1 Million iPhones

I can confirm that 2 of my previous iPhone's are now running on T-Mobile's network. When I sold them the buyer specifically stated he was a current T-Mobile customer and he jail broke the phone to have it work with T-Mobile.

Good stuff.

Can't wait to see how T-Mobile chooses to spin this with the pink dressed, anorexic Anne Hathaway lookalike/wannabe.

Im thinking Apple will be selling this phone unlocked for ALL carriers in the US. Including Virgin Mobile.. which will send the cell world into a tailspin.

This would single-handedly squash any and all margins on the Android side, as multi-carrier was one of the huge benefits.

There was so much rumor around the Verizon iPhone it feels odd for the Sprint and T-Mobile ones to be practically confirmed so suddenly. This one is not as solid but Sprint is basically a sure thing it seems.

It wasn't just T-mobile. VerizonWireless was down for a few hours and some of the AT&T folks around here (Conshy, PA) couldn't make calls either.

I don't know anyone on Sprint, but I suspect they went down too.

Apparently everyone on the East Coast was calling each other to see if they felt that too. I too was guilty of this.

Funny enough, the land lines worked perfectly.

Conshohocken?! I used to work there...now I work in Narberth.

I can't wait to see how T-Mobile will try to spin the Carly Foulkes ads if this turns out to be true.

I think they will just quietly fade away, never to be seen again. They might even get rid of her as a spokesperson in order to erase all memories

The iPhone was the reason I left TMobile. Not sure about the ATT acquisition bit, but if this is true, then T-Mobile will have me and my wife back for sure.

Tmo Ad

Well, the ads never really take a swipe at the iPhone, but instead lament how the AT&T network is holding it back.

it's true. They show the "iphone" as a slick looking guy, but paired up with an old, slow guy. The "iphone" could easy go over and pair up with the girl instead!

YES! Just what I was waiting to see on the front page. However, I've lost interest in T-Mobile after what happened yesterday -- 4 hours of no service due to an earthquake in Virginia was just unacceptable.

Yeah! I can't believe you had to be without phone service for 4 hours, 4 hours!, after a once in a century Earthquake in an area of a country not designed to handle them! That is bulls**t!

:D

Why bother? Although it's unfortunate, AT&T will own TMo in six months anyway. /sadTMobileCustomer
I believe they are not compatible for data. That is why customers who use iPhones now on tMobile are limited to 2G. This may take years after the merger to resolve and by supporting tMobile now then I assume this would mean ALL Cell Towers could be supported sooner. Just a guess.

Sure hope this rumor comes to fruition, been a long time T-mobile customer.....woot!!!

I got tired of Edge speeds and worrying about if I accidentally upgraded my firmware so I made the switch but the call quality after about a year on AT&T seems about the same. Too bad we can't combine the call quality of Verizon with the AT&T 3G network.

Anorexic, but hot! :D I'm guessing we'll see a new approach very soon!

As for some of the comments about this killing Android devices, I doubt it. Too many people like it and are too cost sensitive to just buy an iPhone. But, as one poster noted... I do think it's going to eat into their margins as they will want to be at a lower price point to compete once the playing field is level.

Sorry guys this won't happen. Samsung launched on 4 carriers first with the galaxy S line and apple does not copy. ;)

What is mactrast? never heard of them before.

This is great and not just for TMob customers, but for international customers that have carriers that also use AWS. Even better would be if Apple sold them unlocked and required that the carrier also sell them unlocked, like they do for Google's Nexus.

I don't know about tailspin. The iPhone is available on EVERY major carrier in Canada, as well as most minor and discount carriers. You can even purchase unlocked iPhones through Apple (for a premium of course). The mobile industry is not in a tailspin, it's just a little (tiny bit) more competitive now. Still have ridiculous rates, mind you.

Finally Unlocked iPhone 5 (with 2 year contract)

when it goes to T-Mobile then ATT need to sell unlocked also ...

Then we will know, att and apple plays out the "locking iPhone"

What I want for Christmas

Killtastrophe.

That'd be awesome news. If it were on all 4 carriers, the only thing on my mind would be who has the best price.

What I want for Christmas is a new feature in iOS: "Automatically switch to best carrier." If I'm in a Verizon-friendly area, my iPhone would switch to Verizon. If T-Mobile has a stronger signal, it would switch to T-Mobile. AT&T? Unlikely, but if AT&T is stronger, it would switch to AT&T automatically.

Then I'd pay Apple every month instead of whatever carrier is trying to lock me in at the time. This, of course, is probably unfeasible. I don't think any of the carriers would really want this to happen. :-(
