Won't happen ....

Some of the prepaid and "secondary" carriers (such as Cricket Wireless) are using a different part of the frequency spectrum for their CDMA -- requiring tri-band CDMA capable handsets, which the iPhone (and most other phones) are not.

This has been the main reason people couldn't get a lot of other Android phones subscribed onto Cricket's network (despite them generally not caring if you bring your own phone to their network).

Im thinking Apple will be selling this phone unlocked for ALL carriers in the US. Including Virgin Mobile.. which will send the cell world into a tailspin.

T-Mobile's unlimited data plans drop you to EDGE speeds after 2GB of data usage.
Will be a none issue for many, but for heavy users, this will piss them off.
Then of course there's the coverage issue.
You thought AT&T had poor rural coverage...
T-Mobile is great in cities... not so good out in the sticks.
You typically end up roaming on a partner network or *gasp* AT&T's network.

I sure hope this is true! I've been waiting for years and I am so tired of the jail breaking and unlocking of old iPhones.

I can't decide if I am proud or ashamed to announce that I understood this reference! :p
 Really? Massively popular book for decades and a wildly successful and beloved movie franchise that took home 11 Oscars in 2003? Made Billions and continues to produce huge revenues … Really? You should be nothing but proud. Greatest stuff ever concocted.

You can also upgrade to 5 or 10GB of data.

True, but not cheap either for the individual plans.
Great deal if you go family plan, but the data is shared between all phones on the plan.

According to local T-Mobile store, data included is per line, ie, 2, 5, or 10 GB.
2 line family plan with 2GB each line, 99.98, 5 GB 129.98, 10 GB 189.98.

Comparable individual plans are 59.99, 74.99, 104.99.

YES! Just what I was waiting to see on the front page. However, I've lost interest in T-Mobile after what happened yesterday -- 4 hours of no service due to an earthquake in Virginia was just unacceptable.

How is this unacceptable? T-Mobile didn't cause the Earthquake.

Not only did T-Mobile not have service due to the earthquake, most likely all the carriers had no cell phone service. It was reported on the national news that the carriers were inundated with persons attempting to make calls, and the system collapsed.

Killtastrophe.

That'd be awesome news. If it were on all 4 carriers, the only thing on my mind would be who has the best price.

You're half correct. The service available from the carriers is also a prime factor in picking who gets my cell phone business.

It is not a given that AT&T will swallow T-Mobile. But if it happens, it likely will be sometime after next June.

What I want for Christmas is a new feature in iOS: "Automatically switch to best carrier." If I'm in a Verizon-friendly area, my iPhone would switch to Verizon. If T-Mobile has a stronger signal, it would switch to T-Mobile. AT&T? Unlikely, but if AT&T is stronger, it would switch to AT&T automatically.

Then I'd pay Apple every month instead of whatever carrier is trying to lock me in at the time. This, of course, is probably unfeasible. I don't think any of the carriers would really want this to happen. :-(

you're going to need to stay in level 2/+ Inception dreams for that type of reality

I was just on their website... Looks like they just hiked the price up $30 on all plans.
Classic Unlimited Bundle w/ Data Family plan is 200 MB $119, 2GB $139, 5GB $159 and 10GB $219 for the first two lines.
$30 for each additional line.

Look at the Value Plans, they are cheaper. The phones aren't subsidized, but do the math and they are cheaper than the classic plans.

There are places in the metro Atlanta area where cell service on T-Mobile drops to a low enough level that the phone will not dial and/or a call in progress drops the connection.

Android growth will continue to dominate the iPhone in my opinion. The iPhone just cannot cut it against all the other Android phones. This seems like Apples last ditch effort to try and come back from oblivion by putting the phone on all 4 carriers. Not to mention how they have been suing everyone and their mother because everything looks like an iPhone... gimmie a break.

Nice try troll.

I was one of those T-Mobile users until T-Mobile wanted me to sign a 2 year contract to continue using it on their network - after being with them for 9 years, 7 without a contract since I hadn't upgraded the phones. But to use a data plan that was exactly the same price as the one I had, I had to do a two year contract.

So, I switched to AT&T and got their plan for less money and NO contract. T-Mobile was pretty stupid there. I am glad they are getting the phone, but hope they improve their offerings (unless they merge with AT&T and then it won't matter much eventually).

https://www.macrumors.com/2011/08/24/new-claims-of-iphone-5-coming-to-t-mobile-usa/

T-Mobile USA claimed earlier this year to already have one million iPhones running on its network, despite the devices being limited to EDGE speeds and missing other features.

Not true. They also have a 5gig plan for $30.

Yeah... I think they're great if you're bringing your own phone.
Nice to see T-Mobile cater to the non-subsidy crowd vs. the one price for all the other carriers are doing.

But what does it matter now? T-mobile is ATT or will be pretty soon.

It means that you can buy an iPhone and use it with T-Mobile now, then when they merge, you'll be able to AT&T's frequencies because the phone hardware supports it. And hopefully you can grandfather in the T-Mobile's cheaper rates. If AT&T fails to merge with T-Mobile, that's an even bigger win.

I am contemplating this myself. I am on AT&T and my fiance is on T-Mobile; a family plan would make sense for us. There are actually phones already on the market that support both T-Mobile and AT&T's 3G frequencies.

anyone else agree that this is the end to unlimited data on t-mobile... and that its the end to legitimate competition for the iphone?

if this is what's keeping Apple from releasing the iphone 5 in July, then it's worth the wait.

Now I';m anxious to find out if the iphone5 is really indeed coming out for t-mobile's 3G network (as well as Sprint) or not!

October couldn't come sooner!

Business and Hardware Accomplishment

Decoupling the choice of cell provider from the purchase of an iPhone in the US would be amazing. The push for carriers to provide higher subsidies or cheaper plans might result, and it seems like Apple could be become the point of sale for even more users.
Further, if it turns out that Apple's next iPhone will support CDMA and GSM while staying sleek and having good battery life, it'd be an awesome engineering accomplishment and allow customers to switch carriers a lot easier.

We can only hope that these additions to the matrix bring forth the wrath of lower plans; showing how AT&T along with Verizon have been sticking it too their client base.

nah expect sprint and Tmobile to offer something comparable to Verizon and AT&T...prices will go up...not down
