Damnnn can u say sexy to that matte finish... I like it alot... Buit seriously come on apple ure only gonna give us a differnt finish on the iPhones physical design... I was kinda hoping for a little bit more than that... I like the idea of the matte finish alot. And if they took this picture of the back why couldn't they take a picture of the front? That's making me question the legitamacy of this photo.. But props to apple if the matte is true...

i like the matte better overall, but i prefer the less visible text on the glossy. they should put "iPhone" in that whiter text and keep the FCC stuff and the rest in the less visible grey.

I think the matte looks great. It'd be nice if the material was just slightly rubberized. That way, when dropped it won't crack as easily. The speakers grill on my first-gen is completely gone after having cracked repeatedly from dropping.

Matte all the way. That gossy trash surface would probably scratch so easily.
Ya glossy might look cool for the first week but after it is scratched it will be very unattractive.

I have the white 16GB iPhone there isn't a single scratch on the back of it what so ever. The chrome bezel has scratched at the bottom when I connect it into the dock, but the back and front are very robust, there is a video on youtube of a guy getting a key to the back of it, and only the silver apple on the back scratches mines not because I'm careful :D

Dropping your phone  Man, I would never do that :D

don't like matte at all, i think it lowers the overall appeal of the phone because it makes it looks cheap and nasty.
On the other hand, if it was metal it would be lovely

I agree... the matte does seem to cheapen the look of it a bit. This just seems like something Nokia would do, not Apple. Some form of iPod has had a chrome back from the beginning, and we all know how easily those things smudge/scratch, but that hasn't really been a concern for Apple.

I think I would personally like the matte better (so I don't have to use a case), but something about this just seems a little too utilitarian for Apple.

Whilst the matte won't scratch/crack it'll still be a fingerprint magnet

Maybe it's the angle, but the matte version looks like it's slightly shorter.

Ugh, I was telling myself not to buy the new iPhone (because I don't really NEED it), but if it has this matte back then I might just have to; looks more classy.

Wow, i seem to be the only one around here who thinks the matte looks totally lame. Also, I've been using my shiny 3G (without any protectors) since quite some time now and have no visible scratches at all.

I wonder though, will the matte finish be similar to the first HTC Touch? That looked lame as well, but it felt nice in the palm of my hand.

yeah I agree, but we don't know if its real it might not be, i prefer the glossy. I had a sports drink protector, which looks like its made from the same rubberized matte plastic. I hope this isn't what Apple meant when they said cheaper products this year, I hope they don't do what Mercedes do and cut corners to save money, we want quality even if we have to pay more, cost doesn't bother me, its how the product looks and acts whats important to me lol

So no chrome bezel + matte black back = stealth iPhone!

I think I like it, but will reserve judgement until I can see it with my own peepers.

I do wish they'd lose that bright white lettering on the new case back though...

hmmmm....

It looks like they just photoshopped the pictures of the supposed matte finish and a picture of a regular 3G. This is just another example of a crazed macrumors member who wants attention for their amazing skills at photoshop and macrumors is picking it up as something newsworthy. Will June 8th be here already?

Carbon fiber

Carbon fiber would be nice, although maybe a bit unrealistic for the price. Still, Apple did file a patent for a new carbon fibre molding process recently. Coincidence?

The matte case look great. My 1st gen iPhone is getting worried ;)

Hopefully the new iPhone can be used without a case (as I use on my current phone) without getting to scratched up.

There's got to be a group out there going. . .

Glossy screens and matte-backed iPhones? You've got 'em backwards!
