It seems the first link I put up went *poof*. I still have 1-1.5 months to go before the Mac Pro arrives (darn 8800GT CTO).

I'll be keeping an eye out for the 2408WFP.

Glossy Screen?

The 2408 is the first Dell monitor that looks fairly interesting... I'm not clear if it's a glossy screen or not... can someone verify?

Also, any reports from anyone on this monitor yet?

Thx,
jt.

I am typing from a 2408 right now. The screen is not glossy. The monitor looks great now that I have it dialed in on the settings pretty close. I have an Xrite on the way to get it exactly where it should be.

That 30" display starts at $1999.

BUT...

With my Education discount I can get it for...

$1999.

Thanks Dell! Not that I'd ever buy your cr*p anyway.

call a Dell 'small business' rep.. don't just order from website. i'm getting mine for around 1,500 plus tax, and free overnight shipping. shipped yesterday and scheduled to arrive today.
I called gateway, and got their 30 inch for 1,599 lowest price, and it's only a crappy TN panel.

at 1,500, there's no reason to buy any other 30 inch at this point. The dell is a S-IPS panel by the way.

The 2408 probably will be a nice monitor for color work, but only after it is calibrated!

I have the old 2407, and after setting up a new MP (2@Quad 2.8, 10 GB, 2.3 TB), I needed to add a second 24" monitor for color work. Researched a bunch, and finally decided to buy a Eizo CG241W. Cost as much as the MP, but it is nice to have a highly rated LCD.

Regardless, I am amazed at how well the calibrated 2407 holds up to the Eizo. Note that the uncalibrated 2407, using the built in profile from 10.5, is utter crap - these images show up as bold and contrasty and may seem good, but when you switch to a real custom calibration the detail in dark areas "magically" appears.

So when buying a 2408 for photo / color work, you have to factor in the cost of the hardware calibration system - do this, and you should get 80-90% of the way to a top end monitor like the Eizo.

my post about the 3008wfp applies for 2408.
i'm sure if u call them, u can get a discount on the 2408 as well.
don't just blindly pay 699 on the dell website.

would any retail stores carry these dell monitors? most only have their 17-20 inch models.

I'd like to take a look at the color reproduction on some of these 24". I know costco sell dell computers, might give them a shot.

I bought the 2407WFP-HC since I got it for $550 including a 5 year warranty compared to $699 for the 2408WFP with a 3 year warranty.

what is the main difference between the 3008WFP and the older 3007WFP? the basic specs look the same but huge price difference. I am looking for something larger to replace a older 20" acd. Also how is the 3008WFP any better than the apple 30" ACD? Thanks!

The abundance of inputs? Both the 30" ACD and 3007 only have dual-link DVI, whereas the 3008 has HDMI, 2 x DVI, VGA, Component, Displayport...

Our Dell 2408 arrived today, and it's now happily working with an iBook 1.33ghz via the screen spanning hack.

If there's anything you want to ask, feel free to do so. I haven't really put it through any tests, as I don't know how to.
