Incremental upgrade for iPad. I find upgrading every other one works better; I can handle carrying an extra cable around for awhile.

Anyone selling their 7-month-old iPad to get a tweaked new one is just insane to me. If you want a smaller mini I could understand but jeez. I had a hard time justifying the jump from iPhone 4 to 5 to myself. They could make the tweaked iPad 1.5x faster and I'd still be fine with the 7-month old "obsolete" model.

Even if this becomes a major update (CPU, GPU, screen, etc. as opposed to new adaptor and other little changes), I'd still be perfectly happy with my 7-month-old iPad 3.

The only problem for me is that prices start falling for used Apple iThings immediately after a new version comes out, and I just can't afford to skip a version or wait a long time and buy my next one without selling my old one for 75%+ of the original cost. This is why I've been stuck with my old mid-2009 MacBook Pro for three years but have been able to go from iPad 1 to iPad 2 to iPad 3 over the last two and a half years for about £250 on top of the original iPad's price (which I didn't pay as I got it from my mom as a gift).

I certainly don't have the money to buy an iPad 4 or 5 outright or after only recovering 50% or less of the cost of my iPad 3.

Apple's nearly religious adherence to perfectly yearly release cycles means reliability. I will be very sad if they break this chain and diminish their reliability, as it will mean I may have to go without a new iPad for several cycles — by which time my iPad 3 will certainly feel sluggish and annoying in comparison to it's much younger brothers iPad 5 or iPad 6.

Actually it's more like the way Mac models are handled. If there is a slight update it will be the iPad (Late 2012) instead of the iPad (Early 2012). The way you tell the difference (outside looking in the settings) is the bottom connector and the slightly larger camera aperture.... If this even is a thing.

Ya, many have mentioned this and I change my mind, I'm inclined to agree.

You sir make a excellent use of logic and as it happens you are entirely correct, the diameter of the opening depends on it's distance from the sensor, it can be made smaller by moving the sensor closer or bigger by moving it farther.

photography major right hurr!

What is this? Android? Where you buy a device and 3 hours later a new updated device comes out??

Apple is never that bad, and in this case I think if the 10" iPad gets 4G for the rest of the world, along with the next connector and faster CPU it will be well wort it for the Christmas rush.

What is this? Android? Where you buy a device and 3 hours later a new updated device comes out??

So what? It's not like the 3rd gen is no longer going to be supported or going to stop working.

haha wow, you're a total fool for even thinking you know what I need. If you go back and look at ALL my previous posts - I rarely even touch my iPad. I use it as a PORTFOLIO for my clients to see my work. Since I don't really use it a lot, I would prefer to have it be cheaper.

I simply wanted the new one based on two things

1. iPad Mini - if it comes with a great screen and is $329 I'll buy it. It's cheaper than the full size iPad, lighter to carry, and uses lightning cable.

2. updated 9.7" iPad - I'll buy it just so don't have to carry two types of cables around. I have an iPhone 5 so it would be great to just carry 1 lightning cable.

So before you go blindly bashing people, you should ask why they want something. Geezus, it's worse than androidauthority here. People bashing their own apple-mates...lol

I guess we'll all see tomorrow.

My "New Ipad's" response to all these leaks

Classic!! But I've gotta be honest I will probably sell my 3 and get the upgraded one as I plan to buy lightning accessories as soon as I can

EDIT Yes I know it's stupid but they are shiny gadgets haha

More confusion in my opinion. Buying an iPad used, for instance: "which version of the third generation iPad is this"? iPad 3, iPad 4, iPad 5 is less syllables and more clear.

This.

It's like when I read about the new OSX compatibility guidelines and they mention the "late 2009 MacBook". Half the people I talk to at work can't remember when they got their computers, to say nothing of people who buy hardware second-hand. It would just be easier if Apple used actual model number that were short and located in easy to read type on the product... kinda like they did when their computers were still beige.

Oh, they don't stop "supporting" it. They just tell you they'll release the new Ice Cream Sandwich/Jellybean/Whatever upgrade "soon" and then you never hear from them again (until they have a new handset featuring that Android version they're trying to sell you).

You're better than this ... think about all of apple's non-iOS devices ...
They are clear advantages to keeping the name of your products simple, but there's got to be a middle ground somewhere.

There's a lot of "apps" (specifically graphic intensive applications such as Adobe CS, games, etc...) that assume that the user knows what model/specs they own. It's a lot easier for most people to remember that they own an "iPad 5" rather than an "iPad running iOS 8 with an A7 processor and 4GB or RAM."

I know it is not the topic but any news about iMac refresh on this event ???

Here's your possible answer;

http://9to5mac.com/2012/10/22/apple-october-23rd-event-what-we-know-expect-and-some-new-tidbits/

"First, the bad news: We’ve heard that the some of the iMacs that we found earlier have been pushed so far back that they might not warrant inclusion at the event this week. That doesn’t mean they are cancelled but because there have been some issues with the products and the including them is a “gameday decision”. We’re obviously hoping they make the docket."

Let's just say for argument's sake that Apple decided to release a new iPad every seven months.

According to those who claim to be very upset about the rumours of a revised iPad being true that would mean that had they known, then they would have waited 7 months, this is supposed to be the reason for their angst.

But wait, knowing that 7 months is now the new rev cycle, that would mean that after waiting for 7 months they still could not purchase the new iPad because they know that there will be a new one in another 7 months... etc.
Also the value of a product lies in utilizing it. That's the whole point. If you hold out for 7 months, you're missing out on 7 months' worth of using an iPad. But it's as if people feel that the user experience has zero value, they've gotten absolutely nothing out of it, it's strictly about the monetary value of the thing. I wonder how they feel about cinema tickets since you leave the theater empty handed, materialistically speaking, all you have is memories of the experience. What's the resale value of a vacation in Venice, Italy?

Still more expensive than the Nexus 7.
You mean just like how every other Apple product ever was more expensive than every other competing product ever? And how this resulted in Apple's products flopping miserably? Oh, wait...

In the meantime, Apple is clearly not in any hurry to get rid of the 30-pin connector, hence still selling the iPhone 4, the fourth generation iPod touch, the iPhone 4S, the iPod classic, and (at least, up until tomorrow) the iPad 2 and third generation iPad. If they were hell-bent on getting rid of the connector ASAP, then at least the first four of the aforementioned would not be sold anymore.
Yeah but those are legacy products for people on a budget (except the iPod Classic which is for pathological music hoarders). Those customers know full well that they're eating crumbs off the table of early adopters and that they can't be picky.
In this case we're talking about the company's flagship product in the category (iPad 10"). When all lesser products carry the Lightning connector, the big iPad's 30-pin will stick out like a sore thumb and the iPad will scream "I AM A DINOSAUR, I AM SO VERY VERY OBVIOUSLY GOING TO BE UPDATED, DON'T BUY ME". So in order to not stall sales of that model they're highly likely to release a tweaked interim version.

LOL wooot wooot! exciting morning tomorrow! Got my $$$ ready! Already sold my iPad 3 in anticipation for either the new iPad or iPad mini :)

Calm down dude, it's just an iPad.

Gonna laugh if there the new iPad 3 rumor is false or they raise the price of the new one a bit.

Of course Apple lovers will buy anything with an :apple: on it. But after a while, people will realize there are other (better?) things out there and really Apple is playing catch up. In particular with the iPhone 5.

I saw two iPhone 5 commercials today. The two selling points were the new shapes of the earbuds (how well they fit in your ear) and how the phone is smaller yet bigger. If that's all Apple has to sell on and people go for that, then Apple truly are genuises to market such trivial things and make money on it.

Also saw a Sumsung S3 ad. Don't like Samsung or their ads much, but they had a point. People wait days outside of the Apple store when other phones have already been there and done that. The feature Samsung was selling was the NFC; touch two phones back to back to transfer data. The iPhone 5 doesn't do this, at least not with NFC.

Then Apple has the ad where they tout the 'amazing' panoramic feature. Yeah so what? My phone and digi cams do that. Not a big deal really. Face it, Apple has lost it's innovation spark. They rely on Apple, 'fanboys' (for the lack of a better word), to buy their money making stuff. Their iToys no longer wow me. They had a great start, but have gotten complacent now that they're 'Big Brother.'

Don't get me wrong, they're great products. But they're not mind-blowing like many people here claim. I really hope Apple doesn't over price the iPad mini. 16GB at $249 is where it needs to be priced at to compete with the Nexus 7 which is a fine tablet. Now if they did a 32GB with 4G at $249 that would put the Nexus 7 away by all means . . . I can dream right? :D

Bother to read much? Someone else already was a fool before you. But here  gonna laugh when they announce everything exactly like how it's predicted.

I just hope, it will be available by the end of the week or by the beginning of the next week. I am curious, if the iPad mini will have the same processor power like the new iPad 4.

I don't think it's simple as that. Thinking everyone who buys Apple products is an "Apple lover" is quite superficial IMHO.
You don't take into account that the number of Apple buyers is always increasing since the first iPhone.
For the vast majority of people, the iPhone is the first Apple product they buy, so how could they be Apple lovers?
Could it be instead that once they find a product that's as simple, yet complete and visually appealing like the iPhone, they stick to it for those reasons?
