Working at Apple, I don't know one customer who wants to go back to Tiger. Keep in mind, people don't go online to post compliments, they typically make complaints. That fact alone isn't representative of the overall reaction to any particular product (in this case Leopard). Most of the customers (actually, in my case all of my customers) LOVE Leopard over Tiger, especially the PPC users who have noticed a double in speed increase.

Leopard installed fine on my Mac Pro. No complaints here. Vista on my slave drive, well, that's another story.

If Apple will give me my money back I will go back to Tiger. Apple released an unfinished product and covered its ass with legal disclaimers. And Apple commercial is pure disrespect to his competitors and totally unethical. I personally hate it. Looks like yapping doggy.

I'm sorry that you are having difficulty installing Leopard. Leopard comes with full phone support, so if you are having issues with the installation or operation of the OS call Apple directly or better yet, get in touch with your local Apple store and a Mac Genius can easily assist you.

A few of the major issues that we have encountered at our Genius bar are:

1) Repairing permissions. Before installing Leopard it is CRUCIAL to repair any and all disk permissions through "Disk Utility" in Applications->Utilities. It is also important to do this whenever a major software update is released (in this case, if you opted to "Upgrade" or "Archive and Install" with Leopard, it's imperative do run this procedure). Simply open "Disk Utility", select "Macintosh HD" and then below there will be an option to "Repair Permissions". I recommend doing this before and after any installation or software upgrade.

2) Third party applications that "tweak" the Finder and GUI (especially Unsanity's applications) have been known to cause MAJOR issues with the Finder's functionality. Uninstalling the applications will not work as they alter contents packages of Tiger files that Leopard needs to find and either replace or alter during an installation/upgrade. I have had to clean install a PowerPC system that had traces of WindowShade from Unsanity as the Finder was irreparably destroyed and the "Beach ball of Death" wouldn't go away in the users' accounts.

3) When all else fails, back up, and then perform a clean install, then reload documents and applications manually. What people are failing to realize is Leopard is a completely RE-WRITTEN OS. 64-BIT is new for this particular little guy, so upgrading or adding to an existing OS that may have numerous alterations and third party applications that may have not been tested with Leopard is inevitable.

For the most part, 95-98% of Tiger to Leopard installations have run very well to my knowledge. I appreciate that a few of you have had difficulties or are unhappy, but blaming Apple and throwing your hands up isn't the solution. Try "Repair Permissions" under "Disk Utility", deleting any third party applications AND their preference files (.plist files for said application that are usually in the MacintoshHD--->Library--->Preferences or (UserAccount)--->Library--->Preferences) and getting a hold of an Apple rep for specific assistance. If that doesn't work, back up and perform a Clean Install.

Good luck to all.

From what I read here and there, every new OS, from a Mac or a Pc, has its youth weaknesses. Vista sellers and Leopard sellers alla say the same thing : if you're unhappy, it's your fault, not Apple's or Microsoft's. You should do a clean install, etc. etc. etc. This is not very good for Apple's image indeed.

I can certainly appreciate why people get so excited about a "brand new" OS. It's cool to get a new look... new feel, but it's also important to understand that an OS upgrade can be a huge nightmare. Why do you think there's some 10 major updates in an (Apple) OS lifetime? They're fixing problems. And no amount of foresight on Apple's part is going to circumvent the problems.. it's just par for the course with the myriad of possible issues in an ever changing technosphere. Most serious video pros don't upgrade the OS for many months after an upgrade is released because frankly, it's money down the drain if an important piece of the workflow is broken - whether from an Apple product, Adobe, or any other. I'm still running Panther on the machine I'm typing this, lol. I'll tell you what though... it runs like a rock. It's a quicksilver dual 1.25 which I surf with primarily. I digress.. early adopters of any OS whether it be from Apple, MS, or otherwise are going to feel some pain. The QA necessary to get "all" bugs out is well beyond prohibitively expensive if not an impossible ideal. Apple OS are way ahead of the game because of the standardized hardware, a huge advantage over MS OS from a developer standpoint.

Are you kidding me??? These kids out there, Mac so called "Geniuses" know very little, I called two times and I spent 50-60 mins each time on the phone and these guys went about 1o times to consult with their supervisors. Did not find any solution, so I just gave up and reinstalled Lep. I am new to Mac and know more. I found more info on this forum than talking to tech support.

Hate to break it to you but those "Geniuses' are trained for two weeks at Cupertino and have to have extensive background knowledge in IT. Sounds like a case of PEBKAC, maybe they just gave up trying to talk someone who claims they know so much through an easy operation (most often Geniuses deal with obnoxious customers by hazing them, seems like you fit the bill lol).

I just think they are bad students. And don't cover their asses, you don't look good doing that. IT???? Very funny! I deal with IT every day and these kids didn't sound like ones at all. Now I doubt you know anything except what you have been told by apple. Keep trying.

I am sure windows could make just the same ad, for example put 100 files into trash and restore them to their original locations, try do it on mac in 2 seconds........
This raises the question, of why would you do this?

True Windows has this capability, and the Mac OS (at least through Tiger does not). But why would this be a valid comparison test? I mean, who deletes files or puts them in the trash on purpose only to later restore them to their original locations?

I appologize for getting away from the topic ..... back to the topic, I liked these ads in the beginning, but I think it is too much now, it is bitter sweet and not funny anymore, just like the old comedy show.
