Working at Apple, I don't know one customer who wants to go back to Tiger. Keep in mind, people don't go online to post compliments, they typically make complaints. That fact alone isn't representative of the overall reaction to any particular product (in this case Leopard). Most of the customers (actually, in my case all of my customers) LOVE Leopard over Tiger, especially the PPC users who have noticed a double in speed increase.

Leopard installed fine on my Mac Pro. No complaints here. Vista on my slave drive, well, that's another story.

You have to admit those ads are really stupid. No wonder they've been forbidden in a certain number of european countries.

The first thing that always puzzled me, is that they've put a young nerd to play a Mac and an old fart to play the PC. In reality, when you go shopping, that's the exact opposite.

Watching those ads makes me wanna stick to PC.

actually, i find the latest triplicate of ads humorous and i like the whole genre for apple. yeah, bashing vista without a perfect operating system yourself isn't the best of ideas, but really, leopard is way better in my experience than vista. our computers haven't crashed once on leopard and the install was flawless. the vista machine i have to use at work because our IT guy is stupid and all geeked out with any new release and updated it without thought is terrible and riddled with bugs and crashes. just gross.

Here's one...

I have a 20", 2.4 GHz Alum-iMac. I never had my Mac or an application freeze until I upgraded to Leopard. Tiger worked well... Leopard, not so much. I'm patiently waiting for a new build or patch to fix this.

i think these ads re becoming overrated.
Windoze ppl are gonna start getting pissed off, and not want to convert.
I have seen many people converting to Macs, lately. I think that if we continue with these ads then they'll start getting obnoxious.
At least make them funny, c'mon.

Its generally because over here you can't mention the name of a competitor berating them...

Oh lord, this guy again. I remember you trolling the boards, stating how much you love Mac but complained about the price points on the new Mac Books vs. Dell laptops. You got spanked. Now you're saying you hate the Apple ads and are going to stick to PC. If these ads are really stupid, why has AAPL (Apple stock) risen from ~$80 a share in March to $169.96 today? Oh yeah, those ads must not be working.

FYI, most of the clients that come into the Apple store to shop, for One to One, or Personal Shopping are all over the map: young, old, retired, housewives, students, businessmen. They all have one thing in common: they're sick and tired of their PC's and want to switch to a Mac (and most get an iMac).

Again, if you hate Apple as you have stated time and time again, why are you here? (stop trolling and hit the PeeCee boards if you hate Mac so much - and don't tell me you don't, your reputation proceeds you)

A few of the iMac's that shipped before or with Leopard boxed are having issues with the video cards. The new iMac's are using ATI video cards and in some instances there are hardware conflicts. This is true with PowerPC systems that have ATI graphics cards as well. I can not speculate further on the situation, other than Apple is working on a fix with ATI. Hopefully this will follow soon, but mostly lies in the hands of ATI and its developers working with Apple on a solution.

(and most get an iMac).

I'm not so sure about that. I believe that notebooks make up ~60% of Apple's sales, and with the high ratio of macbook to macbook pro sales, I'm pretty sure most recent switchers are going for a macbook.

Also, I have to say, the Leopard bashing is a bit ridiculous right now. Leopard was a beta only a month ago and just got released. We are on 10.5.0. ZERO updates right now. There are lots of updates to come and Apple sure as hell knows it. They are working on it as we speak.

If you are a Professional, why the hell would you upgrade to Leopard so fast?

Excellent point. People need to realize this is a MAJOR OS REWRITE in 64 AND 32 bit, for Intel AND PowerPC systems. Apple has covered a lot of new territory with Leopard and there are certainly going to be issues with 10.5 that 10.5.1 will address. It seems people are quite trigger happy, it hasn't even been a month and everyone is quick to jump all over Apple. Patience peeps, patience.

Hate to tell ya (and as I can not give out exact sales), most sales are the entry level 20" iMac. Mac Books close second and Mac Book Pro's third. More people buy Mac Pro's than Mac Mini's, which basically means our store hardly sells Mac Mini's.

Interesting. Not to say that I don't believe you, but do you have a link or something? In the past the numbers were heavily skewed towards the notebooks (since 2005 or so).

Wish I could mate, but I can not discuss exact store figures. Apple is very tight lipped, the most I can state is how well we're doing. The Mac Books and iMacs are very tight, but in general our store sells more iMacs than Mac Books and Mac Book Pro's. However, that's just our store, every store is different. :)

You confused me there for a moment...I thought you were an Aussi:p

So your store has seen good iMac sales till now huh? The update combined with the fact the macbooks were stagnant for a while probably contributed to that. Do remember to tell me how Christmas sales go. I have a feeling the macbooks will come out ahead again.:)

I got the feeling you're right. Although it seems iPod Touch and iPhone sales are going through the roof. Funny thing, I have had a couple of Europeans (Germany and UK) come in asking if the iPhone will work in Europe. Of course I tell them Apple just released iPhones in Germany and the U.K. and their eyes light up.

Apple has been running a new Get A Mac ad during today's American football games.

IMG_0016_300.jpg

The ad includes PC getting a consultant and once again touches on the trouble people have been having with Vista and references desires of some to downgrade to XP. The final screenshot is of an iMac with the Leopard background.

As of this posting, the ad has not been posted to Apple's site.

These ads are pretty edgy IMO, I'm surprised Microsoft hasn't been preparing it's lawyers for a lawsuit

I am sure windows could make just the same ad, for example put 100 files into trash and restore them to their original locations, try do it on mac in 2 seconds........ Apple has many issues and should just shut up. I think these commercials are pathetic

Working at Apple, I don't know one customer who wants to go back to Tiger.

Gotta say, I installed Leopard on my MBP and have had nothing but problems. Two weeks into it I finally went back to Tiger because of repeated kernal panics that never existed before in Tiger.

I watched this commercial expecting something witty from Apple and it really wasn't. I think Apple's regular writers must be on strike with the WGA or something. I actually felt it was a pretty incompetent low-blow on Apple's part - especially given my personal experiences with Leopard (and those of many others on the discussions blog on the Apple sight and here).

As far as everyone trying to defend it by saying its a big process going from 32 to 64 - what the hell do you think Vista just did? I'm not willing to say that Apple's programmers are somehow better than Microsoft's, and being people, I'm sure (and I know first hand) they make mistakes.

I do completely agree with psychofreak and many others that if they showed leopard's features in use in the commercials, more people would be impressed and likely switch.

This is so funny.

Here's a guy who claims himself an Apple seller, and has a "demi-god" status and who tells me I'm a troll.

If I'm a troll, why do you waste your precious seller's time to answer me ?

And judging from other people's answers, looks like your status should be lowered. You seem to be so opinionated, but let me tell you one thing straight: you can have a Mac, and not be a brainwashed fanatic. Or maybe killerrobot, John Musbach, armani, etc., are all trolls ???

As for the direct link between AAPL rising and commercials, I wouldn't be so sure. Apple innovates, that's why they sell. Their most popular product IS NOT an iMac : it's the iPod. And now the iPhone. Ever seen a commercial for the iPod or the iPhone ? Ever seen a PC bashing here ? Guess not. Here's some food for thought!

But who am I to argue ? I'm nothing but a troll who got spanked. And you're a demi-god seller. Lord, glad I'm a atheist.

PS Please, tell me where did I say that I "hate Apple" ??? I happen not to appreciate the commercials, and the common "Apple seller" primitive spirit. If you stop this stupid war between PC and Apple, you'll be much more mature.

This is pretty ironic since I switched back to Tiger from Leopard. Leopard is just way too buggy. Hopefully things will be resolved with the patch.

It's kind of a stupid ad now, since Vista is currently stable, driver problems are largely gone and is very usable. The boat has definitely left for ads like that.

Hey, CJD2112! Looks like we have another Apple-hater here !

Seriously, I'm really happy to see that there's a lot of sane people on this board, compared to the minority of traditional PC-bashers who don't know what they're talking about.

BTW, I'll be more than happy to switch to Apple when their new laptop comes out in January, like I said in my first posts. Even if from a strict hardware point of view, they'll be more expensive than PC laptops.

I somehow don't think pointing me out as another not-always-unconditional-Apple-zombie in an exclamatory manner is going to help anything along ;)

I personally don't really care if they're more expensive. A few hundred - heck, a thousand - doesn't make much difference for me when buying a notebook for example. But when only three models are available for running a particular OS, I'd like them to be well built (compared to the other premium-priced laptops around) and well supported for a working life - which, IMO, they're not. If you think with your eyes, Apple is undoubtedly the undisputed choice - but for me, the choice is far more disputable.

..but wait a minute, I specifically recall you stating you already did switch to Mac, and then that you loved Apple, then you said you hated them, now you LIKE them and want to switch? Which is it?

Too bad too many people here still didn't get this simple fact : Apple is an AMERICAN DESIGNER. That means, Apple can use all the crappy hardware material in the world as long as it presents that crap under a beautiful hood.

If you go Apple, and especially Macbooks (i'm not talking Mac Pros here...), don't look for performance, look for glamour and stability.

There's a contradiction here. Either you say that a Mac is a Mac, and you can't beat the OS, so there's no comparison possible. Or you compare the Mac hardware to the Pc hardware, same price. And then, Mac falls way behind. Face the facts ! I'm not saying Pcs are better, I do both. I'm just realistic that's all, and that's what most Apple fan seem to lack.

and on, and on, and on...

You trolled that thread as well as countless others, and pissed a lot of people off on Macrumors with your banter. Looks like you're starting up again.

EDIT: Not worth my time.

Specifically aimed at the users in this thread who have switched back to Tiger from Leopard: please examine your hard drives with an external DiskWarrior or Disk Utility application.

Some others I've heard who had problems with Leopard had failing hard drives. For whatever reason, these failures aren't apparent with Tiger; even switching back 'works.' But you may have problems, and checking things out sooner rather than later might save some grief.

You might want to read this thread about disk utility in Leopard. My HD is fine - its been checked by DiskWarrior several times after all of the Kernal Panics caused by Leopard and my airport card.

I'd be interested to know how a failing HD could cause instability issues with Leopard (and not to mention my airport card and external harddrive).
