Man these ads are so dumb. Imagine a Al-iMac against a black background, showing off Time Machine or Expose or Spaces or Quicklook or any of the awesome features on Leopard, with the same narrator as the iPhone ads. Perhaps Apple is waiting for the iMac Touch to do ads like this.

As much as I like Apple products, I think Apple can't think of any other ideas to promote MAC other that bashing Vista. I know Microsoft sees these commercials and they don't do anything about it. Microsoft hasn't released a commercial about Windows Vista in a long time, but that doesn't mean Vista sucks. Microsoft makes good software and products. If Apple keeps bashing Vista, Microsoft might lose interest in making things compatible for MAC.

For all I know, Microsoft could block bootcamp with Vista SP2, or make bootcamp incompatible with Windows 7. Microsoft Office 2008 might be the last MAC version. If windows 7 turns out to be great, will MAC still bash Microsoft? Maybe they will start bashing Ubuntu?

Apple should promote features, not telling people the other one sucks. They should do more commercials like the time machine one, so people learn things about MAC.

I just noticed I can't see the ad, because I have Safari-block turned on! :D

EDIT: And now that I turned it off, great ad! :)

I think a lot of mac folks like these ads because of decades of hearing their computers bashed by PC users. I think PC users relate to the ads because their operating system is getting so frustrating and they are looking for an alternative. Ultimately the goal of the ads is to convince PC users to switch to Mac. Many of the ads have touted features of OSX that aren't available (or as good) on the PC (i.e. Time Machine).

nicely put!
I still get bashed sometimes when mac can't write to ntfs. which is a real shortcut to getting totally owned.

Apple's explosive sales growth may suggest otherwise.

Oh, sorry... macs being used by 7% of all computer users in the world as opposed to 5%.

The fact remains, Apple may think they're being 'cool' and 'hip' by bashing Vista 24/7, but it's just making the conception that Apple fans are arrogant, annoying people who think they're better than everyone else even more apparent.

The last message of 'Nobody gives a ****' is the most telling I think.

These Mac vs PC ads may have been funny once, but they've gone on far too long and are damaging Apple's reputation more than Windows now.

I've used OS X and apart from the lovely design, hate it usability-wise. And most people seem to agree judging by the infintely higher number of Windows users in the world. OS X may have some great touches and cool apps, but in terms of doing day in day out work, XP for me. Fantastic OS.

Man all this is so childish and weak. Apple is acting like a tiny noisy dog that wont shut up or the drunk short loud guy at a party trying ot make fun of everyone else. IMO if Apple was a person based on these ads, he'd be an Ass.

This is what corporations do when they have under 5% market share. They bash the corporation that owns the rest of the market.

I've never seen any other small corporation directly attack or bash a larger one...be it cars, other consumer electronics...whatever. I cant even recall any playing these silly games.

Hmm right, I guess 50% growth is nothing?

Nobody in their right mind believes one day Macs will gain majority market share...but to ridicule the incredible accomplishment of turning around a once dying brand that could have accurately been described as "no one uses it" to take a 7% market-share and probably head to 10% by the end of the decade is not a small accomplishment when the competition has had a virtual monopoly on OSs for 20 years.

You must not have a TV. You never saw a Papa John's ad bashing the other pizza makers with their "better ingredients better pizza" slogan? You never saw Pepsi bash Coke with their taste test commercials? Or detergent brands bashing their rivals claiming they make shirts whiter?

This is standard fare in advertising. People claiming shock at the idea of corporations bashing their competition are incredibly naive or just living under a rock.

Does papa johns list its competitors one by one? Probably not. Also its pointing out its strength - not bashing the competition.

Pepsi's commercial in no way is bashing Coke. They say that in their taste tests more people choose pepsi. Thats it. If apple wants to make a commercial that says more users prefer the GUI of OSX over vista... then more power to them. Nothing wrong with that kind of advertising.

Again, I think its childish and so do others on this site...and this is a Mac forum site so for those users to think its childish, then I think that says something.

Pepsi and Coke both show competitors in their ads; same for the new Miller Lite commercials...cars are always doing direct comparisons.

On another note, I've never seen this type of banner ad...kind of interactive thing. Regardless of content i think it's cool. Especially the fact that on the Times site, you have to turn the sound ON. Way better than searching for the mute icon.

Am I missing something? Its CNet et al that are bashing Vista in this ad, not Apple :D

Well, I enjoyed it. Yeah, it's childish, but it's working - and it's not as if it's something that isn't done by other corporations...

10.5 is not all that much better than Vista ATM.

Someone needs to get a little more 'quality' time in with Vista, to really, truly appreciate how utterly, fantastically, annoying it is.

It got your freakin attention, then there's a big ol' link saying click here for a guided tour of Mac OS X. What else do you want on a web banner? Geez!!!!!!!!!!

The fact most people use Windows does not mean they think it is more useable. There are whole other marketing dynamics that have put Windows in that position. None of them to do with user experience. In fact I dare say most Windows users have never even touched a Mac.

As for your experience with XP. Good for you. Many here think otherwise though. The important thing is that it works for you and not against you.

I equate OSX and Windows the same way as say...umm a Ferrari F430 and a Chev Corvette Z06. They can both perform well, but the Ferrari has more soul and feels more polished...but the Corvette is more common and therefore easier to service and maintain because parts may be more readily available. If I had to drive one as a daily driver, I'd choose the Vette.

Software and hardware is more readily available for Windows. Windows has stronger network management options for use in the corporate world (when tied into a windows domain / active directory environment). Overall, windows may feel more generic and not as attractive and less 'soul', but due to the volume of users using it, it becomes the better choice IMO.
