I have to agree I hate these bashing tactics. Apple needs to let their products speak for themselves. Like the iPhone/iPod commercials. These ARE successful because the commercials let the product speak for themselves.

I'll be happy when I see a commercial on TV demonstrating a bit of the cool features of OS X. I cringe every time I see a commercial bashing Windows. It leaves a bad taste in my mouth, and I'm sure it does for a lot of other people too.

Bashing is what companies do that can't compete because their products suck.

The ads work

As someone who just made the switch to Mac, I can tell you the ads are effective. After having my dad and brother both upgrade to Vista, and then upgrade again to XP, I cringed at the thought of what to do about my 3-year old PC that needed to be updated. One day my frustration was high enough that I decided to click through and learn about OSX. Granted, I like to play with new things--I even ran Linux on a really old HP as a hobby until the power supply died--but the ads even convinced my wife (who is not at all interested in techie stuff) that there is something better out there.

In my opinion, if Apple put out a "positive" ad that was a list of the great features in Leopard, people would get bored and wouldn't remember the ads. But by jabbing a knife into the Windows wound, the ads are emotional, memorable and encourage you to go look at Mac, which is exactly what a good ad campaign does. Just look at the uptick in market share--if it wasn't working, Apple would do something different.

Well SORRY! Gotta problem capializing the A and C?

I'm just saying all their commercials on Mac (NOT MAC) are just Vista bashing and they are getting annoying. What's that point of making another commercial if it's the same message (Vista Sucks).

All?

Anyway, I meant to spell MAC this way because:
MAC = M.A.C. = Most Annoying Company (or even Most Annoying Commercial)

Why are you posting here anyway?

It's hard to see Apple doing this. I don't like it.

I loved Steve Jobs in the moment he said, "For Apple to win, Microsoft doesn't have to lose." I've used that as a mantra for so many things in life. Vista is vista. It's not evil. I don't know why Apple is going down this negative path...

When did they say they want MS to be wiped out of the industry?

Hey Mac even admits PC is a whiz at numbers... :)

Right, which is why Apple's market share keeps going up.
Not lately. They just got out of a slump.

Most people still don't even know what an OS is, never mind the fact that they have a choice in the matter. If Microsoft hadn't gotten away with all their shady (and illegal) dealings, then you'd be seeing the majority of people picking something other than Windows (and maybe not even OS X, if there was more real competition in the computer market like there used to be in the '80s).
Yes, because nobody knows who Apple is right? Wait, last time I remembered, Apple was the most admired company in America? Most people who know what a computer is knows that Apple makes their own computers/OS.

Agreed. Microsoft just got lucky at struck a huge deal that gave them a large advantage is all. IBM was a huge business machine, and by targeting them, they captured a large size of the market before they had even completed the OS itself.
Did you even read what you quoted? He gave logical reasons, unlike this "M$ got lucky" **** people like you keep throwing around. Microsoft and Apple were competitive rivals in the 80's and 90's but Apple priced itself out of the market by not sourcing out its OS to other hardware makers, a practice Microsoft took wholly advantage of. Besides, if Apple didn't get "lucky" with the iPod they would have gone under years ago. That means nothing when comparing how successful these 2 companies are today. Obviously, both are sustaining and showing growth in their business so it shows they went farther than just being lucky.

Believe it or not, Microsoft/Dell/HP does not have the public at gun point shoving their computers down their throat. No, they actually go to the store or navigate to dell.com and purchase the computer willingly. No gun and no threats. Obviously they cater to a market Apple does not. So get over it.

I've used OS X and apart from the lovely design, hate it usability-wise. And most people seem to agree judging by the infintely higher number of Windows users in the world. OS X may have some great touches and cool apps, but in terms of doing day in day out work, XP for me. Fantastic OS.

You're kidding right? I waste more time on Windows with simple tasks that that take no time on a Mac. There may be advantages of Windows over Mac, but usability certainly isn't one.

To be honest, I prefer Mr. PC to Mr. Mac. Mr. PC is generous, gregarious and affable. He struggles a little, just like the rest of us. Mr. Mac, on the other hand, is smarmy, over-confident, and appears not to have a care in the world. He clearly really digs himself. I really dislike Mr. Mac!

Apple is such a large company that it doesn't matter anymore... It's hard to beleive we're still doing company bashing
