Of course now, nearly a year later, it seems ridiculous that THIS is what Apple gave us? A blown up iPhone? But my friend, a year ago, the iPad was the *****. It seriously was the coolest thing that I had ever seen

I wholeheartedly disagree. When the iPad was announced a lot of ppl were pissed and talking about how it would fail. The only redeeming quality was the low $500 price. I was completely disappointed with what apple had released (from an OS perspective). A copy and paste of the iPhone??? They have been working on tablets for nearly a decade and this is really the best they could come up with? The unoriginality...

When it was released people bought it. But they bought it because it was inexpensive and a revolutionary idea. The tablet experience is far from anything we have had before. And it "works" on the iPad UI, especially when coupled with all the amazing apps that were made (which apple has nothing to do with by the way...) People started going crazy over the iPad because it was the ONLY ONE OF ITS' KIND not because the UI was amazing. People became so excited with this new toy that we forgot our disappointment at this simple, unoriginal cookie cutter of the iPhone.

Now here we are a year later, on the brink of 3 new OS for tablets. And they look pretty good if I might say so. People (myself included) are realizing that this is what tablets should be like and remembering how lackluster the iPad seemed when it was announced.

Don't get me wrong.. I love apple products. As much as I hate the term, people I know would label me as an apple fanboy. and I WILL purchase the iPad 2 (i don't own the iPad now). I just really, really hope that Apple will fix their mistake in iOS 5; Give us a proper tablet experience with refined notifications, widgets, file management, multitasking, multifinger gestures, lock screen enhancements, etc etc.

They really don't have anything else to fix from iOS 4, so I'm really hoping they do it...

This is also a valid point. Apple does cripple hardware though, which gives them an excuse to exclude products from future updates. I'm sure the iPad will get the full version of iOS5, but I would be willing to bet that it will get a cripple version of iOS6 due to it's tiny 256 megs of ram (probably something apple has planned from day 1).

Is there anything you like about Apple dude? Im getting the impression that you despise it?

Some ppl come here just out of hate. And we do know that hate and love are equally strong emotions.

Well, I for one, won't be complaining. I'm undecided about whether or not I'll upgrade to iPad2, but I will definitely upgrade from iPad1 to iPad3, so if iPad1 doesn't work with iOS6, well, I never planned to use it with iOS6 anyway. And that's what I planned from day one. So I'm getting my money's worth out of my iPad, whether or not it works with iOS6.

What i've been saying is true. If you think what i've been saying (which is all true of apple) is worthy of hate, then you also must hate them?

I like apple products, but i don't particularly like apple. Why would I? Apples mission is to give me as little as possible for as much money as possible (like all businesses) and my mission is to get the most for the least money.

Apple does some pretty blatantly evil things with crippling their product, which I think is worthy of everyones disdain, but apple also makes the best gear so I'm kind of stuck with it aren't I?

2 years isn't an unreasonable life span for the iPad, BUT considering it was totally crippled and nearly useless when it was released, that is a bit lame.

It won't be until iOS 5 or 6 that the iPad actually becomes what it should have been on release. It will get all of the great features (hopefully) people have been wanting from day 1, AND there will be a massive library of apps on the app store. By that time the iPad 1 will be obsolete, and all of the early adopters who were constantly waiting for the iPad's to evolve into what they want, get shafted.

A) Perhaps it was totally crippled to YOU, but you are not the millions of people who bought and loved it before the major software updates. Dont mistake your misgivings and attitudes as representative of the rest of the consumer base. Apple doesnt sell too "thesmoth"- it sells to us. And for the most part it worked just fine for US.

B) I highly doubt that the early adopters will feel this way. The got to enjoy for quite awhile a product that worked for them, and one that they themselves chose to spend money on. To think that this will be the case for more than a handful of people is ignorant, unless of course these people are ignorant as well.

I admit I bought the iPad on day 1, but I've been using it at least several hours a day every day since the first day. I haven't been waiting for it to "evolve into what I want" - I enjoy new features and new apps when they become available, but for me, the iPad was not "nearly useless" when I got it on day 1. In fact, it was pretty useful right out of the box, and keeps getting better with each passing day as more new apps are released for it. If I decide to go for the iPad2, I will be happy with the use I got out of my iPad1, and if I skip iPad2 and use this iPad for a full two years, I would have gotten my money's worth and then some.
