No kidding. 9 months and we get a .13 Ghz increase and a measly 256 MB RAM bump.
The 512MB RAM is apparently soldered onto the logic board though, so that is a good thing. It's expandable to 1.5GB total RAM.

I had a feeling that updates wouldn't be as good as some had hoped, but wow, what a let down - particularly the mini.

the max ram in ibooks is a surprise. now 512 soldered onto board. max 1.5GB

this is better than the powerbook.

so we have another exciting powerbook update to happen at some point then?

So glad I bought last April instead of waiting for this. That would have been a massive bummer, although getting 512MB standard and a bigger drive would have saved me a couple of bucks. Ho-hum.

The forums built this up[ so huge but with no news leaking out at all, you had to figure it was a minor rev. and not something big. Widescreens will have to wait for the Intels next year and the Powerbook keeps the edge based on that alone.

I'm afraid the next update to these lines which will qualify as a "major" update will not be until we see "Intel Inside"...

nice

You get more than you did yesterday for the same price, and that's not good enough? Sheesh.

As soon as I can squeeze some money out of a client, i'm off to Regent St to pick up the 12" iBook to replace my rather poorly almost 4 year old 600Mhz iBook.

Now that I've had 10 minutes to reflect I think that my original statement re this being a major let down was a bit of an under reaction.

Steve Jobs claimed that new exciting products were in the pipeline. BS.

No form factor change. Now I think about it, that makes sense. Why would they change it now when it may well be the first to switch to intel.

But still, SJ should have been honest and said, we having nothing but minor updates to offer over the next 12 months because we are in a rut that only intel can get us out of!!!

What a pathetic update, along with every update this year (perhaps bar iMac). Where are these 'great' ppc products SJ keeps promising.
Great so they all have 512 ram...which they should have had originally.
I hope the iBook's price has been reduced, compare it to any other laptop at that price point you get double of every feature.
And ughhhhh 14" is still 1024 X 768 ughh

Um, sorry, did Steve say 'the next ibook update will be amazing'? No, he didn't. For all you know there could be a new and amazing product just around the corner. Stop your whining.

+Scrolling Trackpad - already there via iscroll2
+Sudden Motion Sensor - useful? maybe
+Bluetooth 2.0EDR - BTO option before
>Radeon 9550 32MB - anyone know if this is "ripple-able"
Speed: 12" +133MHz, 14" +86MHz - nothing big
HD: 12" +10GB, 14" +0GB - BTO option already
Drive: 12" nothing, 14" +SuperDrive - BTO option, no change for 12"
Bus: 12" +0MHz, 14" +8.6MHz - you'll really notice that!

So it's about $100 in BTO upgrades thrown in. They could have left it alone and dropped the price instead.

the thing that continually bugs me with this is Apple's push of iLife when the iBook doesn't have the juice to comfortably do hardly anything useful in GarageBand, iPhoto, iMovie or iDVD. the whole "i" lineup is pretty useless for iLife, with the exception of the iMac G5.

I think you guys expected too much!!
My Mini now comes with 512Mb and AirPort + BT standard... So it means I lost quite some money by being a week early. That's a big enough update to me at least.... Guess it depends on what side of the fence you're on.
