Think we will see mac mini updates on the 21st and iBook updates on the 28th.....Seems to make sense,

ShaDOW
I can see the iBook maybe being updated on the 28th b/c of the education conference but why do you say the 21st for mac mini... i know the shipping times are long now but they just changes a few days ago so wouldnt they need a couple more weeks in there?

if we are lucky, maybe we can get those centrino ibooks and powerbooks by january of 2006 for macworld sf...i would wait

I don't think we see the first Mactels before 06-06-06 because Jobs told the developers so. I mean it is really important this time that the developers know by when they have to get their products shipping with universal binaries.

And for all guys waiting for new iBooks: in Europe the Apple second hand store has now open EVERY DAY UNTIL 25th of June (which is a saturday)

Happy waiting

666?

oo spooky...then i will have to wait nearly a year to get my "omen" edition damian "ferrari red" ibook? ;)

Its actually open everyday until the 25th of this month which is a saturday, lining up the following week for the potential updates..

ShadOW

In Denmark are a company called "Office Line", selling ibooks where you get an ipod shuffle 512 mb for free. And you can only get ibooks with 60 gb in this offer.
For me this is a clear sign, that they are trying to get rid of their old ibooks as soon as possible. They know something!

I bought my new ibook a few hours ago, I was tired of waiting :D.

And I'm damned happy I bought it, very nice machine :).

Take a look at what's happening in the east...

Apple's promotion in Singapore, not only iBook is affected, it is a promotion on the whole potable product line.. and a mini is put aside as a lucky draw gift... They are getting rid of EVERYTHING now.. haha..

By the way, I contacted the Apple Centre this morning and they said they have no stock on the 12" iBook. Any order would take me 2 weeks to reach the store!

One more thing that's important, the promotion ends on 25 June!!!!

:D

Thats something I can't believe!! I would not expect an Powerbook update before September or October. If it's true and we see a Powerbook update end of June I would be very happy.

The whole 666 thing is somewhat weird. The first Apple I was $666, and now the first Intel based Macs may be released on 06-06-06. I hate weird coincidences in life. Maybe this 06-06-06 release date signifies a new beginning if they are in fact released on this day.

I was thinking the exact same thing...weird...

if anything, 666 and the devil should be related to bill gates and microsoft ;)

giving full respect to the left behind series, here's my take on the end times

suprisingly, bill gates is not the devil

the end times won't happen as soon as some say and last time i checked reagan (ronald-wilson-reagan), gorbi (with birthmark on forehead), or john paul II (very popular) are not the anti christ, but the anti christ will be a person who probably will become the president of the united states at some future date, and the big false religion will be one which mixes equal doses of religion and politics together and have a holier than thou attitude and be high on cash and low on love

as far as apple having any sychronicities with the 666 number, i don't think they are big enough, rich enough, or influential enough for any anti christ to show interest in...and he, or she, will probably be a pc user ;)

What I basically wanted to say is that I think the Mactels will come out about next June. Many people here on the forum think we see the first in January. But I don't think so. Because then Jobs should have told the developers "get your software out next year" or "beginning next year" But he said "they will be in the marketplace when we meet again".

I am not so sure he said 06-06-06. I partly read the transcript and I haven't seen that.

Re-visiting the mark of the beast

While people love to kick around 666 and 06-06-06, it should be pointed out that scholars recently determined that the number given to the devil is actually: 616

http://news.independent.co.uk/uk/this_britain/story.jsp?story=634679

Which is coincidentally (or not) an area code in Michigan.

So to all those who thought 06-06-06 would be some kind of supernatural nexus day for Apple, it's not. It's just a cool looking date.

Yeah, 616 is the new 666...

ok, assuming there is an update coming up soon - do y'all really think it will be worth losing the $100 rebate? i was planning to install an extra 512mb ram in the current ibook (making 768 total) - would this much ram make up for the 1.2 ghz processor speed (assuming that will be updated in the next refresh)? i'm having a really hard time deciding. if i would experience everything the same with more ram in the current ibook, then i'll just go with that & save some money. especially if i'll be stuck w/ 512mb in the next one & be needing to get more. (cause i'm assuming it will just be two 256mb, rather than one 512 w/ an empty space to add more)

i know it's ultimately my decision but i need someone's opinion who knows more about the affects of processor speed than i do (i know nothing). thanks!

Same here! And at about the same time too... Mine said it'd take 3-7 business days to ship, although I did spec the 80gb HD and BlueTooth... (No RAM upgrade coz I'll get that in the Millenia, FL store in a few weeks ;) )

Was it a foolish purchase? Not if it'll keep me entertained on the 9hr flight :)

I don't know much about processor speed, but I'm pretty much decided on the $100 question. I'm going to wait as long as I can because I figure either:
a) the update will boost standard memory, possibly saving me > $100 in upgrades;

or:
b) today's ibooks will be discounted $100 or more after the new ones come out.

It's possible that the update will bring nothing that I really care about (say bluetooth and a minor speed bump), but if that happens, at least when I buy my "outdated" model, I'll be making an informed decision.

I could be wrong about this but i dont think Apple will sell the current version of iBook on the website after the newer version is out.

Usually they go into the sale/special deal section on Apple's website.

Well done. Sadly, for me, it's now a matter of pride. I will not bow to Apple! I must be strong! :D

Go on... you know you want one... Just get it now... :D

I'm actually finding it difficult to get to sleep coz I start thinking of what widgets I'm going to get... True Mac geek

As tragic as it is, I've been doing the same. Not losing sleep but going through the widget downloads sections going "yup, and I'll get that one. And that one."

The thing is that I know when the updates finally arrive, it'll be worth it. 50% because of the new updates and 50% because you just can't beat getting a new Apple. Mmmmm. The joy! I've never got a new Apple product and been disappointed.

Same here. I know the updates are on the way, but I can't wait. I was gonna get a PB, but thought I'd save the cash and buy a Cinema display / ext. monitor. A 14" screen is gonna be difficult to get used to...

I've not had the 'New, fresh Mac' experience yet- my current Mac came in a carrier bag (second hand eMac 700mhz - £200  ) I know that it's meant to be a bit like opening the chocolate Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - open it VERY slowly and savour every second... :)

Why do we care so much about these darn computers? People have been banned arguing over G5 processor speeds... I've heard of a couple Mac books on the cult of theMac - anyone read one?

Ok... Now I'm Confused!!

I have been delaying my purchase of an ibook due to the upcoming update and because it simply seems kinnda pointless to purchase the present model when a new one might be released in a couple of weeks. However, the posting I am quoting got me really confused  . I was planning on getting a 1GB Kingston memory stick to boost my ibook's memory anyway (old or new model). My question is basically... can I still use the Kingston 1GB memory if the update is possibly gonna use two 256mb rather than one 512mb?? I am kinnda new at this so I would really appreciate any comments.

I wanna wait, but I would not like getting stuck with 512mb that can't get upgraded :p
