Sold my late 2009 unibody 27 inch core i7 this past Monday for $1100 in anticipation for the new iMacs.

I wanted an SSD option read the SSD upgrades were not a good idea with the late 2009 iMac models because of the fan noise/over heating. Or that they didn't have a spare bracket for an additional hard drive.

Personally, I don't give a crap about a thinner iMac. I do care about pricing staying the same or perhaps miraculously getting cheaper (yeah... not really Apple's style).

Great, so Apple has allowed themselves to charge even more for RAM upgrades

No it doesn't. It's giving your 8Gb without an increase in the price. If you want to upgrade that then that is your business and you can (and should) go 3rd party. All it means the machines now 'officially' support 8Gb sticks.

Talk about sign of the times; Apple finally offering 8 GB RAM modules!

Maybe the new iMacs will resemble the styling of the new iPod Touch; aluminium with rounded edges, like last week's rumour. It's design could become thinner by dropping 3.5" HDDs in lieu of 2.5" SSDs.

Not that I'm in the market for an iMac since I have a 2011, but if they make it thinner I'm going to have to shake my head. The darn thing is thin enough. Apple, do you want to make our desk setups look nicer? Shaving off a quarter inch isn't going to make a difference. How about putting in twice as many USB ports so that we don't have to have a USB adapter for peripherals? That would be cheaper than cramming stuff into a thinner form factor and it would do more from an visual perspective.

I know they won't increase the USB ports, especially not since they want folks to go to Thunderbolt. I also know it is too soon to take out the DVD slot. So I'm not really expecting any changes to the form factor.

No retina display, no sell. It's 2012, Apple, not the 1980's.

...

Kidding, I just wrote that to see what it feels like to be one of those entitlement douches.

I don't want them to do a retina screen unless they are willing to put a pair of GPUs in SLI/Crossfire with a decent amount of Video Ram (say 2GB on the 21.5 and 4gb on the 27") to drive that many pixels.

Already seen how the macbook pro with retina stutters on occasion, put me off buying a retina display until they have the graphics ooomph to drive them.

I want cheaper HD/SSD options (256GB SSD+1TB HD for $300 instead of $600), cheaper ram options (so I can order 32GB for $300 instead of 16GB for $300) and the obvious upgrades to newer processors, gpu, usb3, etc

Really, that's all I care about seeing next week. A redesign would be nice, but the current design still looks great.

Given that Ivy Bridge only has 6 months left before Haswell is released, its small wonder Apple can "afford" not to raise prices. They are making a killing now selling outdated Sandy Bridge parts and last years GPUs and they will still be making a killing next week.

They can just buy a really big display and sit further away from it.

Who's going to do the Hurry up and take my money sketch?

Best post on here.

No way is the underpowered GPU of an iMac going to be able to drive that many pixels.

Well, it will, but not to an acceptable standard.

Now I just need an affordable Thunderbolt to USB 3.0 adapter so I don't have to even consider (the very crazy thought) upgrading my 1 year old iMac :p
