Wow, it's ugly!

The iMac looks more like a big blow up iPad lol

still ugly and lacking any style.

This is a typical MacRoumors board reaction to pretty much any concept (or leaked) design nowadays. Nothing new here. If this was going to be real (which I doubt it will be anything like this) we know that this would become the most beautiful thing real fast.

I really don’t care how it looks, if it is a underpowered with no expansion it is not going to be good. I don’t plan to spend $2000 every three years because Apple wants me to upgrade like the iPhone or iPad.

Why not? My old 24" Apple Cinema Display has rounded corners. My Dell monitor has rounded corners. The current iMac has rounded corners. They added rounded corners into the actual operating system so all windows have rounded corners. The next logical step is for the display panel itself to have rounded corners too! You get rounded corners and you get rounded corners. Everybody gets rounded corners.
Why not? Big Sur is well suited for it.
Sure, the new iMac will have rounded corners, but not so large like these. They will be probably in the same size as they are on iPads, not 5x bigger just because the concept's designer was lazy to redraw them.

Unless, maybe, the howls of derision have finally penetrated the Apple echo chamber and it is starting to dawn on them that $1000 stands and $700 wheels are actually making the Mac range a laughing stock for any non-fanboy.

All I heard is telling me that the $1,000 stands, to be used with a $5,000 monitor, are well worth the money, because they allow moving the monitor anywhere on your desk with a finger. I suppose if you had the need for such a stand, you'd just pity clueless folk who can't imagine what you are doing and why.

the base is a bit weird looking but whatever. anything is better than the current iMacs with their ridiculously ugly bezels. not saying this looks bad....i love it!

i just hope the stand comes with the computer itself lol and we don't need to pay $999 extra.

That’s a really well made video but I think the guy made these too tall which makes them just look a little weird.

It's still the most beautiful computer ever made.
And the monitor arm was awesome.
The sunflower iMac. Can still hear Jony talking about how “each part was true to itself”, and Steve talking about “hunkering down with a spreadsheet” when the iMac G4 was announced.

Also remember Time Canada leaked the announcement by publishing their interview with Steve about the new iMac the night before MWSF.

While we wait to see if rumors of a new iMac announcement today are accurate, popular 3D concept channel ConceptsiPhone and Khahn Design have taken a stab at envisioning what Apple's redesigned all-in-one desktop Mac could look like. Check out the pictures and video embedded below.

According to Bloomberg, Apple's redesigned iMac models will feature slimmed down bezels around the display and the metal chin will be removed. The new look is expected to be quite similar to the Pro Display XDR monitor that Apple released in 2019, and that's what we see here.

Instead of a curved rear design, the iMacs will feature a flat back, and prior rumors have described the new iMacs as using an "iPad Pro design language." At least one of the new models that will replace the 21.5 and 27-inch models will measure in at 23 to 24 inches, but it's not clear what size the second iMac will be.

Serial leaker L0vetodream has said that at least one of the new iMac models will feature a display that is much larger than the current 27-inch model, presumably due to reduced bezels.

Meanwhile, leaker Jon Prosser has suggested that the 2021 iMac models will come in five colors that match the colors of the fourth-generation iPad Air (Silver, Space Gray, Green, Sky Blue, and Rose Gold). This rumor has since been hinted at by L0vetodream, who suggested that the colorful new iMacs may be launched at Apple's "Spring Loaded" event.

Apple has developed underlying Mac support for Face ID, Apple's facial recognition technology. Apple initially planned to include it in the iMac refresh coming in 2021, but according to Bloomberg, it has been delayed and is not likely to be included in the first iteration of the new iMac lineup.

Apple is also expected equip the new iMacs with next-generation versions of its Apple silicon chips. Not only will be faster and offer more GPU power, better efficiency, cooler running chips, and tighter mainboard integration could allow for a thinner chassis.

References to two unreleased iMac models has been found in macOS Big Sur 11.3 beta code, identified as "iMac21,1" and "iMac21,2." Could they reference new models that take cues from Apple's first-generation iMac by coming in different colors? We may know for sure before the day is out.

Apple will hold its first media event of 2021 later on Tuesday, April 20, at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time through a live stream. The event is expected to see the unveiling of updated iPad models, likely some information related to new features in iOS 14.5, and there's a possibility of a surprise like AirTags. Check out everything that's coming in our What to Expect guide.

Uggggh, that stand base is atrocious. I’m all for a flatter design but I’d like to see better specs instead.

Hopefully the team responsible for pricing the product doesn't take pricing cues from the XDR and charge 1000 for the stand.

Just so you know, my iMac is NINE YEARS old. To be fair, I did upgrade it with an SSD, but it was no simple task.

That said, in this day and age of sealed devices, this is the new normal:

Figure out what you need today, and add a bit as a pad (no pun intended).

I'm hoping for an iMac like the MS Surface Studio done right, but I'm ready to buy any mac with M1+ at this moment.

I was thinking the same thing. Maybe have a "Pro" version with a touchscreen with Apple Pencil support, and beefier GPU. Apple doesn't have to make all of macOS touch sensitive (we've seen how awful touch + keyboard & mouse UI is), but allow Pencil support in apps. Allow to scribble notes, or use pressure & tilt sensitivity to graphics apps. Just my 2¢

It would be even more awesome if it didn't come with a stand, so we could use the Pencil on it. ;)

There is no way Apple will include the hinge mechanism from the XDR Stand. The Aluminum base alone wasn’t worth $999, it was the engineering that went into the hinge that added to that cost. It will more than likely be a standard iMac stand that is squared off.

Would they really include this on a complete machine that costs less than $2000?

I would add the fact that it connects magnetically to the display also adds to the cost.

Someone who gets it! Why couldn't Apple use the same arm from the G4 to allow up and down and side to side movement rather than the limited up and down pivot at a fixed height that iMacs (and the XDR) have been stuck with for the last 15 odd years
You would need a REALLY heavy base to keep it from tipping. The iMac G4 screen was very light compared to the computer base.

The lightest part of an iMac is the base, at least currently.

Why is is it normal, when you can buy any PC tower which lets you add, storage, memory, video cards and PCI cards. I don't see those going out of use. Just because Apple says all-in-one is cool, does not make it so. They want to think of us now as sheep, not technical people that can manage an upgraded or two.

But what's worse? THIS design...or the event coming today and them literally not mentioning iMacs at all, AGAIN.
