I agree with everything you said. While I do love the bold color choices on the backside of the new iMac, the front pastels are what ruin it for me. Not that it matters since I can’t see myself going down to a 24” monitor at this point, so I’m hoping that the upcoming Pro version of the iMac addresses most of the things you’ve listed in your OP.

Also, these people on here are insufferable. The way you’ve been attacked just because you have an opinion is so ridiculous.
Sadly this is nothing new for the MRF. Some people take it very personally when Apple products are criticized. To come into this thread (or any thread) to tell someone 'hey if you don't like it, don't buy it' is pretty eye opening. Essentially they are telling people to shut up and keep their criticism to themselves. On a tech forum. Where we discuss all things Apple. It's pretty amazing honestly. Human psychology is fascinating.

Silver is not neutral when you have a clashing white bezel to go with it. That model should have a black bezel, at the very least.
It’s highly subjective. I feel the opposite.

Silver and white go together very well. Black goes well with space grey.
For instance, the stainless steel AW pairs nicely with white sport band. In fact, the silver is so neutral, that it works with almost every band color.

But it can work the other way as well. It just depends on whether you prefer high contrast or not.

because for decades Apple made you to think this way...its a human nature to get used to...If apple sold only imacs with silver+white bezels and now, with the new 24" offered you silver with black bezels...your human nature ,after decades of white+silver, screamed that the new one should have had silver with white
Nope. Has absolutely nothing to do with that. White bezels are very rare in monitors and TV's for good reason.

I'm also not screaming anything. I'm simply stating one model with a black bezel made a lot more sense than none.

Exactly my point. The market made you think that, made you get used to that. That applies in everything. If all cars were black, when you saw a white one , would feel strange to you
If the market for decades used white borders then your brain (our brains were used with that combo, and if apple came with black borders you had the same feeling that are you having now about this new 24 imac
I Can't even believe that im talking human anatomy in a tech forum.

Everybody has been complaining about the white bezels or the chin. These are HIGHLY subjective. I actually prefer the white bezels over the black ones. And the chin is needed for the components. Putting them behind the screen would impact the cooling capability. The screen itself gives off heat, so having the M1 right behind it would make things much worse. Plus, the amazing speakers take up some space.

People writing on tech forums are so completely out of touch with the real world. Seriously, Ethernet? For this particular product? In 2021? Dude, I am willing to stake my house that not even 1% of this computer's intended user base would use Ethernet.
Apple will sell millions of these.

Let's not confuse this product with the *not yet released* bigger iMac (probably the new "iMac Pro"). Which will obviously have ports, more RAM, etc.

A little off topic, but I really wish someone would sue Apple for iMac & Macbooks just like how they sued them on iPhones for planned obsolescence.
Claiming they are in the green, but they actually don't give a **** about that in their products.
1. No upgradable SSDs when all most other manufacturers allow this. Sure two nvme slots wouldn't hurt. Once your TBW max has been reached, just be prepared it would die anytime soon.
2. No upgradable RAM. I mean come on.

If for any reason you break this iMac after your warranty expires, be prepared to pay ******** of repair fees to Apple. And even the fees would probably be close to buying a new one.
My parents use an iMac from 2013 with 8GB of RAM and 256GB SSD. All they use it for is facebook and iWork. That is all. Guess what, the next computer I will be buying them will have 8GB of RAM too. Some people do not need to upgrade their RAM. This is a very low minority of people, especially the ones that bought the 21.5" iMac to begin with. The 27" and if the M1X can allow it, the replacement will offer upgradeable RAM. We will see how the more powerful SoC work as they will eventually need to plan for 1.5TB of RAM in the Mac Pro replacement.

5. Not sure how a power brick is embarrassing. My MBP 16” has one and I have never felt embarrassed by it, nor thought it to be junky. The Apple Cinema Display was one of the coolest, non-junky monitors ever, and it had a power brick too. This complaint is really silly since the brick is on a cable 2 meters from the computer, meaning most likely on the ground and out of sight
This is actually preferred for me. The previous iMac cables were always just a tad too small to reach my power strips or UPS. I had to always use my iMacs off center and I hated it due to the small cable it comes with. Now with a power brick it will be great to have a much much longer cord.

WiFi has gotten so good. Even playing video games over wifi is not an issue these days. You know the programs that poll user input 60 times every second, sometimes with better monitors 144 times every second. Playing online games doesn't have as much latency issue. People think this is still 2004 where wifi was HORRIBLE. WiFi 6 has replaced my ethernet basically. I ONLY have ethernet to connect to the WiFi routers (so the signal does not need to go through walls from the basement to the upstairs).

I think they're trying to pay homage to the old iMac ... or was that an eMac? This was before I got into the Apple ecosystem so I'm not sure.

I know the 8GB is limiting for some, but I get the feeling that the 27" iMacs when released, will include 16GB + options. They may limit 8GB for the 24" for the average user, and up the ante on the 27" which the pros are more likely to buy anyway.

If you're looking for a desktop, I think the Mac mini is the best choice right now. You have a 16GB option here, plus can choose whatever sized monitor you want (including an matte/ antiglare). The big thing for me is I absolutely hate fan noise. The Mac mini can be mounted under your desk somewhere. On an iMac the fans are right in front of your face. Who wants to be streaming in front of their computer and have fan noise in the background.

That being said, the fans on the new iMacs are supposed to be quieter.

An obsession with thinness in the past and now in the present does not mean it's a good thing. They are focusing on thinness in a device that you will probably rarely, if ever, move. By doing so they made design compromises. This is not something to cheer about.
Several people, my parents included, only have a small section in their kitchen that doesn't have a lot of depth. Having the old iMac style where the back extended out towards the center made for some unpleasant placements of the iMac. Having it thinner will help greatly. Also, why are all the monitors I use pretty much as thin as this? I would actually avoid a thicker product. Having it thicker just to be thicker makes less sense than having it thinner. Putting the components behind the display is no good, that 4.5K display gives off heat on its own. So putting that SoC RIGHT BEHIND the display itself will compound the heat, this requiring even more cooling needed. So placing it in the chin got it away from the heat from the display to where its manageable by the cooling it has in place now.

So having it thicker, people's request to place all the components behind the hot display, will lead to cooling issues. It is essentially "making it thicker just for the sake of having it thicker". It accomplishes nothing. USB-C can be ANYTHING you want it to be, and this has been an on going frustration visiting the site since they made the MBP 2016.

exactly, this is clear the new apple...iphone 12 vs 12 pro, or ipad air vs ipad pro , macbook air 2021 probably vs mbp and now, imac vs upcoming imac pro
And this is actually better from a product line perspective. Before the iMac Pro was removed, we had iMac 21.5, iMac 27 and iMac Pro. Hopefully this will lead to JUST iMac (24) and iMac Pro (27/30/whatever)

With that said, I'm a bit disappointed in that it only got a M1, its not more powerful processor. In the past the iMac received what you would consider a desktop processor and was more powerful then a mac Mini or MBA. That's not really the case today.
People need to look at what the M1 does. It is far far better than my 2019 i9 iMac. It beats an i9 9900k in many areas. That is massive, and the general user doesn't need an i9 level of performance. It is actually WAY WAY WAY overpowered for the target audience of these systems.

I think we making to much of a big deal. We used beige color monitors, the iMac G3 had a huge light colored pinstripe color border and we survived. We even had G3 and G4 iMacs with white borders and these are now considered iconic.

at the end of the day, it’s the work you will be able to do it. For the vast majority of consumers, the design and features are attractive enough that it will be well received.

Since I bought my M1 MacBook Pro, I hardly plug it in, yet I always thought have just two USB 4 ports would be insufficient. The only thing I ever attach are my external drive and power adapter to juice it up.

Yes. You've made it abundantly clear in every single thread about the new 24" iMac sofar that you dislike its design and that you are not going to buy one. I'm so glad you had the courage to start yet another complainypants thread about it. We clearly don't have enough of those just yet

Here's a novel idea, maybe it's already crossed your mind: if you don't like it don't buy it. I don't like pickup trucks. And yet you don't see me walking around my neighborhood telling people how much I dislike their choice of vehicular transportation. The new iMac is not the right computer for you. It's that simple.
Not to back the OP up too much because I see what you’re saying, however, there ARE people that wanted this computer and now don’t. You say “if you don’t like it, don’t buy it” but there have been tons of reviews and comments by folks who wanted THIS level of Mac who are put off enough about the design and other decisions that they can’t buy it.

I was never interested in a desktop machine, but I think it’s EXACTLY what people should do (complain) when a product they were considering for purchase ends up this far off the mark.

Like the OP said, this would be far less bizarre with black bezels, uniform colors front and back, and an Apple logo on the front. Just look at the lineup - hard to argue this isn’t bizarre.

Sort of like people taking correction to facts very personally and declaring they won't reply to you anymore 🤔 Again, I believe what's triggering the "if you don't like it, don't buy it" type replies is the extreme adjectives being used in the criticism (mentioned examples in post 11). They read those and think, "Gee, this guy really hates this computer! Why doesn't he just find something that suits him better?" and thus they reply as you indicate.

I notice in your signature you have a 27" 5k iMac like I do. I know you said you weren't going to reply to me anymore because I pointed out silver wasn't a pastel color, but if you decide to get past that, I'd be curious as to whether you would even consider buying this iMac even if all your wish-list items for it were fulfilled? I personally wouldn't want to reduce my display size to 24" after being used to 27" - would seem like a significant downgrade. I'm curious to see what they come out with for a larger display iMac in the future. In the meantime, there's always the Mac Mini plus a display of your own choice. Seems like this covers all the bases - people who love the new iMac can buy it and those who don't care for it, like you, can keep what you have or buy a new Mac Mini M1 instead.

Did you consider the fact that there might be many more people who didn’t even have an iMac on their radar until Apple shook things up with their first colorful iMac since the G3 iMacs? People who insist they cannot buy a computer that is anything other than gray with black bezels are a very small minority of the general population.

This computer hits its mark perfectly. It’s not for everybody, nor does it pretend to be. It is an opinionated design, and doesn’t apologize for it one bit.

For those who want black computers and monitors, you can buy such things from every other computer maker on the planet. Apple has decided to stand out, once again.

People were leveling the same types of criticisms when Apple released the iMac in 1998. Funny how history is repeating itself, and the people suggesting these will be a failure will most likely be proven wrong again, over 20 years later.

No, there are no legal or phisical reasons...We live in an physical world ..the rest are just emotions...Remember the most beloved imac was the white bezels G4
You just like to argue but after 2 years of these on the market...you get used to. There are almost no computers out there like this...Apple wants their products to be recognised instantly . I will not be shocked if other companies will come with a copy of this

Why do you care if one less cable is showing from the back of the device? Most people have their iMacs setup where you never even see the back.

The headphone jack on the side sucks because you can't hide the wire if you use wired speakers now. It will show no matter what.

So, extra wires are or aren’t a problem? Which is it?

For the last time, no. There are very obvious reasons why white bezels are very rare in monitors, TV's, etc. It is not the market. It is not style. It is not any other reasons you keep bringing up. Goodbye.
