Ny 27 arrived today. When I popped the back (after reading this thread) I expected to see either the top or bottom slots filled. They were staggered.
I just added the memory to the open slots.
Went from 16 to 32 G All humming at 1600 MHz
Good luck.
OWC memory used

Interesting. So you have the same memory amount as the original poster, and added the same amount to the Apple RAM. Difference is that you used OWC.

I still have to ask.... if you're going to pop off the panel and replace the memory anyway, why not buy it with 8GB of RAM, and replace all 4 sticks for 32GB? Cheaper, right?

From what I gather in this thread my plan to use these GeIL CL10 sticks isn't going to work with the existing stock ram. Decisions...decisions.

I suppose I have 3 options (other than returning the Geil sticks and paying a restocking fee). I can pull the Apple ram and run with 16GB at 1600mhz, keep it and have 24GB at 1333mhz or get another pair of the Geil modules and move up to 32GB at 1600. My question is whether I would really notice a difference between 24GB at 1333 versus 16GB at 1600...or would that be a bad thing to do to my shiny new iMac?

When I receive my 27" iMac I plan to transfer the stock 8GB to my mid-2010 MBPro and populate the 4 slots in the iMac with G.SKILL DDR3-1600 memory modules to reach 32GB.

I expect it to run at 1600MHz.

Ok, I caved and am returning the Corsair sticks back to Amazon. Just ordered 32GB of crucial ram (CL11). The combination of running mixed ram, low clock speed, and different voltage specs made me change my mind.

16GB would probably have been plenty of ram but if I pickup FCPx in the future, I think I'll have more ease of mind with 32GB. I probably should have just tried the 16GB option and check the page file stats and then decided.

I've gone with the 32GB Corsair. The CL improvement along with the Crucial working at 1.5v if needed anyway means either would be just fine, I'd imagine.

Quite ready to eat my words, of course, when the RAM shows up. :D

Damn you Crucial now out of stock via Amazon. :(:p

Can you link it here maybe I'm looking at the wrong page and they are in stock?

The owc ram is cl 11. That's why everything is running at 1600 MHz

Memory voltage

Ok, so I should get 1600MHz CL 11 modules. Fine. How about voltage? Someone (on a different thread) mentioned adding 1.5V while Apple's modules are 1.35V and running into issues. Should 1.5V SODIMM be ok?

PCs (regardless of what operating system they are running) allow access to the BIOS (or more recently EFI). Macs do not allow access to the EFI. I specifically mentioned Windows because it was in the context of the post that I replied to. What is confusing you?

Your comparing Mac (hardware) to Windows (OS) was a bit confusing.

Can someone explain me the difference between this 2?

the first is a ram that i can get from a retailer here in Italy, while i can't find anywhere the second. They seem pretty identical to me, but i cannot imagine why crucial does not recommend the first one for the new iMac.

What do you guys think? Will it work with the new 27"? Thanks.

They look identical by specs. I would just get the first one. That is what everyone else got who ordered through crucial.

No, I said a Windows PC (i.e. hardware). I think we all know what a Windows PC is? It seems like a fairly ubiquitous phrase to me.

Mac hardware can run Windows. There is basically no difference between PC hardware and Mac hardware these days, except for the locked UEFI, which is actually software strictly speaking, so I am not sure what you're trying to pick on here.

the fact is that if you use the "Crucial Memory Advisor™ tool" on the left, it says it's not compatible with the new iMac... really strange...

Your right, I take back what I said earlier. Weird. Maybe you can give Crucial a call. They have pretty good tech support. Explain your situation. They may have more insight.

Just got my 2nd kit of Corsair, so I am now running 32GB of it, and everything is great. No problems.

Very happy now...

For anyone that isn't sure yet, I just added my Crucial memory and got 24GB running at 1600MHz. Super easy to do.

You are running it with the Apple RAM as well? Can you link the Crucial memory you are using?

Is it the same spec as this one going to order from amazon as ive got gift cards: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008LTBJFW/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER

Yes, 8GB from Apple (Hynix brand) and 16GB from Crucial, this kit:

You can use ebates.com to get and extra 5% off and 6% cash back. It's the same exact specs as their Mac version, just cheaper.

I used the system selector tool to buy my RAM from Crucial and so I purchased this:

But I noticed that the part number is CT3650282 and is different than the one you linked. Why is that? Both are C11 though, so it should have the same results, right?

Yes, they're both identical, CL 11, 1.35V, also match with Apple specs.

They make separate part numbers to track who is buying memory for what equipment. But the sticks are the same. And they add a premium to the Mac labeled ones knowing you bought a Mac and are willing to spend more for the same hardware.

I have the memory from my link in a 2012 Mac Mini and a 27" 2012 iMac, both working just fine.
