there are even more refurbished iMacs today!!! Im thinking it def means new iMacs are coming very soon!

Update

I just got an email that my new iMacs are en route. That made me lose hope, but they are coming from China after a 10 day delay...hmm...I'm still on the fence.

SHENZHEN,
CN 01/30/2009 9:53 A.M. ORIGIN SCAN
CN 01/30/2009 8:52 P.M. BILLING INFORMATION RECEIVED

The scheduled delivery date is February 5th. That would certainly be after a Superbowl or Tues/Wed announcement.

I thought more data would help...but it just piques my interest even more! Time will tell...

I hope you are right, but..

That seemed odd, as it is the stock model, advertised to ship in 24 hours. I called Apple to inquire about the delay, and my regional rep (east coast) said that, "the delay would be well worth it in the long run, if you catch my meaning."

Apple innuendo is so delightful! I smell an updated iMac soon!

I am waiting to buy a new 24" when they replace it, so I hope your evidence works out, but isn't it more likely they are simple putting a new image on the machines with the new iLife? Or, even just a normal supply chain delay? I doubt they would switch the models on an order, even if it was an improvement. We will see... (fingers crossed)

But it's not like they can just up and change your order without asking you, right? I mean what if you don't want the new iMac and you just want the one that you ordered? Wont they have to ask you first?

In case Apple does decide to chose Quad Processors in the new iMac wouldn't heating be an issue, so maybe we can expect a new design of the iMac.iMac would/should be upgradable to 8 GB RAM like the 17" MacBookPro, just my 2 cents. Nothing can be said about the quality of the LED displays Apple is going to put in, I am going to wait and watch. Hopefully Apple would discontinue the 20" model and there would be a new 28" inch model with 24" being the base model.

Maybe it will just come with ilife 09 preinstalled or whatever
No new imacs here

There were posts about a new cooling system apple was investigating .... couple that with the new intel C2Q low-watt parts and 8gb ram support and nvidia chipset and dedicated 9800gfx or so (all obviously theoretical) could make for a very nice new iMac

There is a lot of discussion right now on new imacs next week, but I just don't think it's plausible. It seems like right now there are three different threads on this topic.

1. Let's start with the thread your are reading right now.
In the event that a new product was rolled out, they would not ship the new model to Grimmace, because techincally that is not what he purchased. Apple would be required to send you what you purchased or refund your money and allow you the option to purchase the new model.

I would not be surprised if the well worth business is the addition of iLife '09, because as I stated, I don't think that apple is allowed to ship you a product that you did not actually purchase.

2. Second thread
The following excerpt frrom Apple-insider started the hub-bub here.

Note - Copied from apple-insider forums (user - ibelieve)

I ordered a 20in Imac over a week ago. And it never showed up.
When i called they said it will ship on monday feb 1st.
But could not give me anymore info as to why the delay. But said it will be worth the wait.
He also mentioned to watch the super bowl commercials. ( Could this be a sign of new releases)
Again, not surprised if this is related to the iLife inclusion we discussed with Grimmace's thread. However I would be even less surprised if this entire thread was a hoax for 3 reasons;

a) The user has a single post to his name, and he signed up on that board this month. While this is not necessarily proof it does shake his credibility;

b) Second he spelled imac in his thread title wrong

c) How in the world would anybody involved in retail apple sales have an idea what the marketing dept is doing in the way of commercials. many times the retails stores don't even know that a new product is coming out until the day the public finds out, but this guy on the phone knows what the ad campaign is? I doubt it.

3. The last thread.

I actually find this thread to be the most credible, however you can see early on that I don't think that the lack of imacs at a single store Holland necessarily means that Apple will be releasing a new model soon. And if you continue to read the thread, it starts out as a semi-plausable hypothesis (whether I believe it or not) and turns into a wild speculation about super-bowl commercials.

To sum it up, I really hope that something is released soon because I currently am between computers, but until something a little more concrete is announced I am not gonna get my hopes up. That's my $0.02, thanks for reading!

I agree with wrkngclasshero. I ordered a 24" iMac on Monday with a 500GB drive. It was only a two day lead time and the standard 24" was ready to ship immediately (this is speaking directly with Apple UK). I don't think there are supply problems. However, I've since cancelled as I'm paranoid about a better one appearing this quarter - which would irritate me greatly.

However, one interesting thing is the complete lack of any refurb iMac's in the Apple UK online store (the option is greyed out). However, it may simply be coincidence that they don't have any at present (probably not many people buying them at present so the chances of refurbs appearing are obviously lower). Mac Mini's were greyed out 2 days ago and they have some showing today.

I'm ready to buy an iMac, I loved my last 24" which I sold and got a 17" MBP (which I don't like as much). Even a minor update/price revision would be enough for me...

Yes it should be this Tuesday

What happens within the Reseller channel is that Apple automatically cancels all backorders and it is then up to the Reseller to re-order the new model for customers who have an order waiting to be fulfilled.

Apple Store orders are automatically upgraded because it is the general consensus that only an insane person would not want the new generation model and it would simply be the case that Apple can no longer fulfil the original order as all inventory is gone. Customers can return the new model if they are unhappy.

I can confirm that the Apple rep was using a style of inference that all Apple reps globally use to indicate a model refresh. I'm afraid this doesn't get used for iLife being introduced. The factories and resellers already have drop-in discs in-hand to add to dispatches. In addition there is an iLife Up-To-Date program in place. I can confirm stock constraint. This late in the products lifecycle always indicates that inventory has depleted.

Apple Retail staff are regularly briefed on new products before launch now. Management felt that it was inappropriate for the public to know more about the products than the staff in the initial hours of launch. This is perfectly plausible, however I cannot verify it.

Nobody should ever get their hopes up because these things really can be postponed within days of original planned launch date. In this case, however, the channel stock data I can see indicates next week is it.

I just checked with one of Apple's distributers here in the UK (C2000). They are showing no stock of the 2.8GHz 24" Model with stock not due until the 18th February. Coincidence?

76 of the low end 20" models in stock though. So not sure that means anything.

Clearly you know a bit more about this than I would, couple of questions.

Are updates always the exact same price point as previous models. If not I do not see how Mac could ship the upgraded model unless it is at the previous price because mac is flat out not authorized to charge a credit card beyond the original purchase price.

I don't think there is stock constraint. Grimmace is getting his machine and apple stores have current models in stock.

In this case, however, the channel stock data I can see indicates next week is it.

Could you clarify what this means, because it sounds like you have access to stocking information, that the general public does not.

FYI... I'm not trying to be argumentative, just trying to get some more info, thanks buddy!

Well whatever the case im really hoping the release will be next week...

This is an idea!! I told you before when apple release iMac always inculed iLife in the box... I think Apple will be release new iMac at April or late March... Because Apple iLife Up-to-Date program ending at 28 March...

This is the original text Up-to-Date for iMac;

If you buy a qualifying Mac between January 6, 2009, and March 28, 2009, and it does not include iLife '09.

This certainly falls in the realm of speculation, but I ordered a number of baseline 20" iMacs for work, with no custom configuration, and I've had my order delayed for a week, followed by this message today:

Due to an unexpected delay, we are unable to ship the following item(s)
by the date that you were originally quoted:

MB324LL/A, IMAC 20/2.66/2GB/320GB/SD-USA
will now ship on or before
Feb 05, 2009

Please note that product availability can change rapidly, and it is
possible that your order may ship much sooner than we anticipate. You
may even receive a shipment confirmation between the time we send this
email and the time that you read it.

This may be hardware but it could also be software ie SL or even that they are having to add iLife 09 free.

SuperBowl Commercial

You guys think maybe Apple will do a sweet SuperBowl commercial (80's style, huge production) and then we'll have new machine announcement on Monday? I'm hoping this will be the case. *fingers crossed*

I think we all are hoping for that. :) Whether it pans out or not...
