New iMacs Released

I need to get one of these...

My Dual 800 G4 took a **** a few months ago. I think the controller for the HD's died.. or one of the drives died.. ugh. It was getting slow anyway.
 
So if I undertstand correctly, there will be a mini bluetooth version of the keyboard? If so will there be a wireless version for the big keyboard? The Numeric pad is really nice to have IMO.

ATi graphics, not many people caught that one did they. I guess this means its blue ray. Interesting, looks good but ill have to get the wife's OK before I replace this Dell with a iMac.
 
are the core 2 duo extreme processors desktop processors? or are these the ones found in the current macbook pro?

Okay, so let's see. Significant processor speed increase. Significant graphics card increase (full generation newer). Significant redesign. Significant price drop (20" screen goes from $1499 to $1199, with all these new specs, that's $300 price drop).

So it's $300 cheaper, but faster, with better graphics, thinner, a new design, and bigger drives.

How could you ask for more?

I don't see any proof of Conroe from what I've seen.

The X7800/7900 is a mobile Extreme processor.
 
No more apple key?

The interesting thing is that the command key no longer has the apple logo on it, rather, the words "command" on it. 🙁

There is another image of the keyboard in the presentation:

You will notice that the rim around the Esc key is different than the compact version. The smaller aluminum border and rounded corner in this picture matches the rumored design. Also, in the picture of the iMac with keyboard, you can clearly see there there is a numeric keypad and separate arrow-key layout. I suspect they have a small lap version (Bluetooth?) and the full-size USB version.
 
I was a little worried when I bought my MacBook Pro that I might prefer the design of the rumored new iMac. Glad I was wrong. I'm just not feeling the aluminum/black-plastic combo.

On the other hand, I am going to order one of the new wireless keyboards as soon as they become available as a separate item.
 
but what about VESA wall mounting?
Why have this super-thin, beautiful display that you can use a wireless keyboard/mouse and not be able to mount it?

maybe it will only be available in the 24" model, like it was with the previous line?
 
Interesting new look... it's kind of like some sort of hybrid Pro and iPhone. It has this sort of retro industrial feeling to it, too.

The new keyboards don't make any sense, though! Why would you get rid of the extra keys? Sure, they're not used as much, but they weren't hurting anybody. It's kind of like the old rounded mouse the first iMacs had, which sucked unless you were a child.
 
It looks classy!

The now old iMac design was hard to improve upon, they did what I thought and just made it slimmer. Not sure about it only having a glossy screen though.
 
Yep. It's me, leaping on Apple's choice of GPU again.

But aren't consumers going to be a bit miffed when they find that the new 20" entry level iMac has overall lower graphics performance (the 2400 series only has a 64-bit memory interface, which considerably hampers performance) versus the lower-spec old 20" iMac (which has an X1600 with a less-hampered, though still rubbish, 128-bit memory interface)? Especially when OpenGL standards haven't yet been updated to take advantage of the DX10-class features of the new chip, so other advantages like geometry shading which are available on the Radeon HD 2xxx series but not the old X1600 are moot for OS X...?

And what about the entry level 17" model which was a direct replacement for the eMac? What are education buyers who don't need the fancy GPU and extra cost going to buy? Dells?
