the 3GS have screws at the bottom, no?
Yes they do

It doesn't even look white in those pics. Looks grey.
thats because it was taken with a crappy cell phone camera.
That bottom seam really makes me believe that Steve Jobs needs to lay off the pain meds. Seriously, how the hell could he approve such a design ? Apple NEVER has ugly seams like that. The rest of it, eh ... I am still not sure what I think of it. The buttons on the side also look very non-Apple.
I am very serious and scared when I say ... is Apple losing it ?
boo hooo hooo life will go on.....
We'll see in 5 days
There is one thing I observed... Apple is often criticized by community members. Some even go and say that "I won't buy it unless this and that". But I'm pretty sure these persons end up buying it anyways, when they realize that "it's not that bad after all".
Exactly. People are funny.
I think that all of these photographs are fake... and I mean every "leaked" iPhone '4G' photograph.
Why would Apple want to break the consistencies relating to the physical design of their products? Look at the notebook line-up; they look very similar.
Also, look at the iPad and iPhone (current); they also look similar.
Why would they immediately, and abruptly, halt this consistency in design?
I suguest you take a look at the past of apple's products. The iPhone is in need for a redesign.
When I say something like "its very un-Apple" I am talking about recent design trends with Apple and the consistency with those recent designs.
Regarding the seam I am not talking about the overall shape, I am talking about the hideous seam at the bottom. Show me another recently designed Apple device that has that large of a gap.
its a prototype. Plus it may be part of interchangeable bezzels that allow you to change the color on the fly.
plus look back at the person who quoted you.
This is interesting. I like that I partly got what I asked for back when the white front was leaked. The back looks great even though the pictures are crappy and the plastic protective covering makes it hard to read the small numbers and letters on the back.
Thats because its a damn PROTOTYPE.
Wirelessly posted (iPhone: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US) AppleWebKit/533.4 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/5.0.375.55 Safari/533.4)
This is they type of comment that drives me nuts. Guess what. Apple used to make computers in "IBM Beige". :-o
...with seams.
One explanation that I've read before is that it breaks the metal side into discrete pieces, each one functioning as an antenna for a specific technology (GSM voice, 3G data, WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth, etc.).I always thought the seam was for prototypes to make them quicker to take apart for testing but it seems more and more like it's the production model. I wonder what function the seam has? I know there is no way they're leaving it there just because. Apple wouldn't do that because it somewhat ruins the "flow" of the design. Any guesses?
That's gonna look real nice once it gets yellowed by the sun! Sexy!

Eh :/ still not feeling it. I feel a nexus one actually. It is too squarery to be a phone. Seems like a old nokia brick phone, are we stepping back? First Apple has square prototypes and now AT&T is stepping back?
It better offer some great features or Nexus One or 3GS here I come. I wish 4.0 Would have brought widgets, but theres still hope widgets are probably iPhone HD only. *Preys the new iPhone won't look like this* What will Apple say June 7th? What will SJ say at his keynote. Ok guys here's the phone. Today we have gizmodo on hand to present it for you since they already did.![]()
I wish Apple and other companies would give an option to buy products made in the US. Have a side by side assembly line and charge more money for the American made products. I would gladly pay considerably more for a product made here in the states. I would hope a test like this would show that others would as well and would ultimately lead to phasing out the overseas assembly. Hey it may be a pipe dream... but I wish it was this easy.

Squarery? No, this phone will look good. A change from the current Iphone which is also a very nice design but outdated. People want new looks to distinguish them from older phones and it worked out nicely imo.
The idea that anyone would want to pay artificially inflated prices for ANYTHING is beyond me. At the same time, why don't we stop shopping Amazon for books so we can support "mom and pop" book shops, stop using heavy equipment to build roads and issue more laborers shovels to boost employment, or block out the sun so candle makers can have more work (to borrow an example from Bastiat). No offense bud but comments like this reflect an epidemic of econimic ignorance in this country, including in our politicians.
I, for one, am grateful that electronics are one area the government doesn't regulate heavily and can therefore enjoy the fruits of ever falling prices, which is what free markets always trend toward.
the new iphone has ceramic glass not plastic. it wont yellow.
edit: who the hell keeps their phone in sunlight anyway?

Just waiting for the nitwits to start wailing about screws or seams. Or how white is a terrible color (as if they aren't going to have a choice). Or the sharp edges. Or the lack of OLED. Or the lack of a Mac Pro refresh...

Well if Apple keeps to form and makes the different colors different sizes, then there isn't much choice beyond what you make a priority (color or size).
I expect the 4gen to mirror the 3Gs, with white being low end, and black being high end (space-wize).
basically, if you want MAX space you can't have white.
(This is fine by me since IMO, white+silver=fugly.)
//not a nit & not complaining. ;-p
I don't need your permission, thank you. All I needed was to see Froyo and then see what's being added to the next phone OS. Combine the letdown of that, the brilliance of Froyo, the ugliness of the new iPhone, and the fact that its still stupidly tied to one carrier and.....hello Google phone. And if you think the exodus of even a handful of consumers doesn't bother a CEO, you're a blind fanboy...oh wait.

Thats awesome that you got a sneak preview to what is in the next iPhone OS.
I looked at the Froyo features. Not really all that impressed. Hotspot was the onlything that looked interesting...but I seriously can't see using my phone as a hot spot. Can you even talk on your phone and be a hotspot at the same time. How ridiculous is that as a feature.
I was in Tokyo last week. I was surprised how many people there have white phones (which seems to be an unusual color in the USA). I had previously read the article here about 10 days ago where there was a leak of a set of alleged white iphone parts, implying that this would be an option. So I conducted an informal survey: as I sat in a bar in suburban Tokyo (not the center), I counted white phones as they went by: Result: about a third of all phones were white.
So I concluded that someone at Apple Marketing had done a good job, passing along that this could be a popular option.
PS I was also surprised that nearly 100% of phones I saw were large flip phones with very large screens

Even though the iphone has sold extremely well in Japan it is essentially the only block-style phone that you see.
Black cars in Japan are historically associated with the yakuza (mafia).Yeah, Japan absolutely loves white electronics and appliances. Not only that, most sports cars are white. I too have a White iPhone, definitely prefer it over black.
