Very disheartening news

Like I said, idk why you're so upset about lockinfo. It's not even compatible with iOS 5 at this time, and the beta is *VERY* buggy. Even if you could jailbreak your 4S, lockinfo is not very useful right now.

And if you knew you wanted the jailbreak so bad, why would you buy the phone at launch? It takes time to make the jailbreak, expecting one overnight is completely unrealistic.

You couldn't be more wrong about lockinfo. Yes, it's still a beta so it's not perfect yet but it's very close to perfect. Are you sure you have the beta installed? If not, you will definitely have problems.

Well at least there is a tethered jailbreak. I have it and its decent, a few problems here and there which usually requires reinstalling packages or boot tethered but just to have a jailbreak is already great itself.

An untethered jailbreak would be great but it seems like Apple is actually gaining the upperhand here, I'm not so sure we'll see a jailbreak in december now. Tethered JB is awesome right now and it should appease many users until untethered JB comes out.

At least those that didn't get the 4S. but they have better camera, faster processor longer battery life. :p Oh and lets not for get Siri

i dont know what version you are using but lockinfo and ios5 works perfectly fine for me. mail preview works with the latest version. bitesms gives me no problems at all.

In fact everyone I know has either an iPhone4 or iPod touch(4g), so jailbreak is still available, 4S has only become to gain percentage share so the majority of people still can have a jailbreak.

You say that like you don't care about us... like we don't matter! :( I know... my fault for upgrading right? My main reason was for the 8MP camera... I wanted a good alliterative to carrying around my actual digital camera. I now regret the decision.

Next Year is only just over a month away you know!

Anyway it sounds to me like it will be even longer.... I am debating selling my 4s and possibly trying something else out. iPhone just isn't doing it for me without a jailbreak. What's the point of having a phone that I don't use because most of the functionality I had come to appreciate on it, is now out of reach!
I am really missing Lock Info. Android and widgets on the home screen are starting to look good....

Get the skyrocket.

LTE Speed are so blazingly fast that the smoothness and greatness of the iPhone will fade away.

If EVERYONE from the jailbreak community WOULD MOVE TO ANDROID, Apple would magically put in a Jailbreak switch that wouldn't actually break any code.

The jailbreak community is responsible for many million sold iPhones other than our own iPhones.

Example.

I bought a 4s... No jailbreak and I saw this comming... Returned it. Got a skyrocket.

My mother has a i4, So does my wife. Now, all of the sudden they want Androids too. Same with other people around me.

One Jailbreaker moves 5-6 people to buy products. Tech buyers follow the "geeks". That could mean 5 mill + iphones less sold per year .... or even more, just to put an example.

iPhone>>>>>>>>>>>Android, but the fact that we can't actually do what we want it to do means .... Android>iPhone.

iPhone4S isn't worth the upgrade.

All it did was TRY to catch up with current top tier android phones yet fail. It doesn't even have 1GB RAM. Don't tell me how the OS is optimized with 512MB RAM, 1GB is better and you know it.

Siri was a gimmick, 8MP and faster processor was expected. Apple didn't try this year. It's karma for people who support Companies when they just put out a product and people blindly buy them.

And lots of Android friends and family have moved to iPhones
Your one sided view is naive

The data begs to differ though. Android currently has 50%+ which is the majority of the marketshare. iOS WP7 and RIM share most of the remaining 50%. It's much more likely that people have moved to android and less have gone to iPhone which has generated a greater marketshare for Android.

Don't forget that its also not just the phone sales... its also the app sales too, and iTunes... Apple will lose those too when I go! LOL. Mind you I am stuck now for a few months until I can save up for something else. So the JB community has a couple months to come out with something before I go.

Not quite;

ANDROID-USE.jpg

As you can see, Android indeed has a majority of 43%, not 50% (basically a difference consisting of WP7's existence, so it's significant to point out the difference), while Apple has 28%, or more than one quarter of the smartphone shares. WP7 is stagnating in the single digits and within years RIM will fall off the map.

Click Here for actual data on smartphone market share. The Nielsen data is flawed.

Don't be too negative - looking at the list of first jailbreaks, it took the iPad 2 about 5 months (by Comex of course) before a jailbreak was made possible.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IOS_jailbreaking

Seeing that Comex was the originator of exploiting the iPad, iPhone 4 and the iPad 2 and I may be incorrect for saying this that these exploits were also used for creating jailbreaks such as redsn0w/pwnage tool/whatever iH8sn0w created (can't remember what it is called!!)

Comex will be paid a handsome amount of $$ for closing the exploits because that is what he is employed to do by Apple....rather than depending on the donations he made through the jailbreak that he created - can only imagine that you would too if you were in his shoes!

I've been using lockinfo for years, yes I'm sure i have the beta installed, but thanks for your concern

And I couldn't be more right about the beta, do you want me to post pictures showing how many different bugs their are in the lockinfo beta?

For the end of the world what's taking so long crowd, it took longer for iOS 4 to be jailbroken last year, so this amount of time it's taking them to release an un-tethered JB for iOS 5 is totally normal.

I'm, as impatient as they come, but these guys are doing you all a favor, and in the meantime there's a semi-tethered JB available that happens to work great.

Sorry, but that article is not only from a less trust worthy source, but is actually flawed in it's analysis. That article is trying to compare units sold per the quarter to overall market share during the quarter (which we are looking at).

Furthermore, that article doesn't even take into account Sprint or T-Mobile concrete data (which before Q4 basically, didn't or still don't have the iPhone, but have an armada of Android phones).

In addition, lots of iPhones are purchased and resold to other parts of the world. Sales of a device does not necessarily represent actual active market share. iPhones are sold through less channels, where as Android devices are sold through far more - thus numbers can be lost. I love the iPhone, but for a fact there are more droids on the street.

Find a reputable source like Nielson with varying numbers and then we'll chat. But that article is trying to compare Apples to Oranges and doesn't take into account Sprint or T-Moible.

Sorry, but in all honesty, you should have voted with your brain before going straight to your wallet.

You bought an iPhone 4s fully well knowing that there would be no jailbreak available anytime in the near future? Then you got mad and returned it for a Skyrocket?

FAIL.

You at the very least could have stayed on the phone you had before getting the 4S until a jailbreak was released for it, then activated your 4S. You chose to be impatient because nothing was available.

Example.

I have an iPhone 3G; I've been on it since it came out. My SO bought a 3GS when it came out. Because of the issues the iPhone 4 had, I skipped it, as my contract was up, while my SO's wasn't. So now that we're on the same period, we both upgraded to the 4S. She activated hers, as she doesn't jailbreak. I have a need for tethering (once a month), so instead of activating my 4S, I'm still on my 3G until a jailbreak is released. Then I'll activate my 4S.

There are a number of people who haven't bought the 4S because there isn't a jailbreak utility out for it yet.

In short, you should have voted with your wits and brains before even going to the wallet.

Back on topic: MuscleNerd's lastest tweets are very promising. At this point, I'm keeping my 3G limping along as much as I can until THEY ARE READY to release a jailbreak for the 4S, even if tethered.

Haha I like how I get down-ranked because I posted the truth. I'm not bashing LI, I love it and wish they would have just used it as the NC because it's far better, but I'm not going to tell people that the beta is usable, because it is FILLED with bugs right now. I'll show you photo proof of 5 bugs I encountered in less than 5 minutes this morning.

1. BiteSMS not having the slide down at the top of a message to see the previous messages. (sometimes it's there, sometimes it's not)
photo3-2.png

2. I guess 1 notification is equal to 6 now??? Not to mention when it doesn't even appear with x's to clear the notifications out
photo2-2.png

3. Don't think there is supposed to be a keyboard on my lockscreen that doesn't go away without a respring because I can't actually unlock the device.
photo4-1.png

4. When you try to preview e-mails it zooms in for some reason, and then the rest of the email turns white and you only get to see half of it, useless because you can't even read what it says so you still have to open the mail app.
photo1-2.png

5. Here there is NO weather, LI is showing 5 unread e-mails when there is only 1, and it's not even fully loading the preview or allowing me to click the e-mail to pull up the half assed quick preview. Also still showing 6 notifications when there is only 1
photo.png

So like I said, I love lockinfo, but don't tell me it works great because it's honestly barely usable. Half the features don't work, and half the time the features that do work cause the phone to respring. I know more down votes because I am telling the truth

It's always simpler when you ignore contrary information.

Don't quote me out of context. That is the introduction to my counterargument which backs up my analysis as to why that article doesn't even add up correctly. iPhones may have been on average the 40% smartphone sales of Verizon and AT&T, but there is still T-Mobile and Sprint, as well as other carriers even, that are in the picture that until now, offered Android, RIM or WP7 devices but not iPhones. So that reduction of 12% is very feasible.
