I think he meant Marketing.

Remember, we first saw this technology from Sony back in 2016. Today, the same technology can be found in Xiaomi phones under $300.

Actually it was even further back, in 2015.

I dont doubt there are challenges, but it needs to be better explained or marketed if they want to call it incredible feat of Engineering, especially when Apple has already done Touch ID.

Security has to do with Apple's Security Enclave, so it is not part of what makes Power Button Touch ID incredible feat of Engineering. Scaning a smaller potion of it isn't either.

Amazing...now that Apple brought back tocuhID, people who were claiming FaceID is the next big thing suddenly disappeared.

Knowing Apple, I am surprised they brought something back...thats a rare case

Feat of engineering?! Sorry, people have been putting fingerprint readers on slim power buttons for years.

I went from iPhone to Android recently. One of my drivers for that was that I wanted a damn fingerprint reader again. I found FaceID to be a massive pain. Yes its cool when you're holding your phone, but half the time it's just a nuicance (e.g. want to use your phone while it's laying on a table - you either need to lean right over like an idiot or pick it up).

My guess? I think they want to go full screen and just simply can't shrink the hardware required for (secure) face ID enough.

"Most" being the Google Pixel phones no one buys?
My secondary phone (Xiaomi) has a screen-built-in finger print scanner. If it wasn't ****** Android I'd 10x rather use this than my 100x a day PIN typing iPhone 11 Pro.

Why not just build in both?
"Fingerprint Cards" is the Swedish company that have produced most Android fingerprint sensors. They are currently in +450 smartphones and tablets. Most of these are a round sensor on the back.

Apple stated I believe over a year ago that ‘touch ID would be relevant for future Apple products‘. I suspect, this is something that will probably make its way to the iPhone, which would be only beneficial offering both Face ID and touch ID, now with the pandemic and masking, it’s almost necessity to have a secondary option for convenience.

then lets add it to everything else so we don't have to deal with junky faceid anymore

most people don't wear gloves year round
Some people have to wear them for work, that is all year round 🙄

gloves are not mandatory, people need to stop using the glove counter point. they won't stop you from going into the store without gloves, but they will stop you if you don't wear mask.
And mask wearing won't be mandatory forever, hopefully.

Is it vastly different to the reader Lenovo had on the x60 devices? (going back 12 years ago).

Haven't watched the full thing yet, so I'm interested to hear how something that every other phone manufacturer has is an "incredible feat of engineering," but we shall see! lol

Gotta say, so cool that iJustine still has such a massive following 13 years after the introduction of the original iPhone. I see a lot of sexism thrown towards her and her sister, but she absolutely kills it.

Kills it how? She, herself is projecting that stereotype blonde image. Her reviews are worth nada.

Leave it to Apple to brag about the engineer in challenges of something that has existed and then devices for about six or seven years. I love how they really sell hard when they copy old technology that they just never bothered to use.

Word on the street is that the difference is that apple’s actually provides a reasonable level of security.
Please explain how Apple made a fingerprint more secure than anybody else a fingerprint is a fingerprint. They did nothing with fingerprint recognition technology as this is a completely hardware related move nothing to improve the reader or sensor itself

It would be great if Apple developed an under display finger print reader. Would go a long way to developing a phone with nothing but screen on the front.

There are gloves that can be used with finger print sensors.

Given the pandemic and mask wearing I think anything but faceid is needed. I can’t use Apple Pay in public and unlocking my phone almost exclusively with a passcode seems ancient. Give us touchID in the iPhone 12 power button.
Why can't you use Apple PAy in public? I use it every day by using my passcode.

Of all things that NEED this feature it would be the Iphone not the Ipad. Unlike the macbook which doesn't need fingerprint ID but needs face ID. Ever since jobs died the development and ingenuity of apple products has lacked.

They just took Touch ID and moved it from one button to another. It’s cool and everything, but they’re really overselling it lol
Sorry bud but its a lot harder then you are making it out to be.

Believing in iJustine Apple product reviews, it is like believing that Jefrey Epstein did killed him self 😄

I'm sorry, but this is just ridiculous considering it's a thing budget Androids have had for years. And this comes from a die-hard Apple user.

Well I'm sure Apple would like to gush all over Sony who were doing this "incredible feat of engineering" on their Xperia phones (like the Z5) way back in 2015, and Samsung and other Chinese brands last year. <rolls eyes> Well as least we no longer have to put up with Jonny Ive gushing about how wonderful he is in reverent tones any more thank goodness.
because all fingerprint readers are implemented the same and perform the same....?

Do you really need it explained? I mean, are you going to believe anyone?

Compared against the 6S... the old, old 6S. Touch ID is faster and more accurate than all Android Fingerprint scanners released in the past 2 years, amplified if that scanner is under the screen. Then FaceID... only 1 Android phone has 3D facial recognition and that Huawei phone is very poor at identifying people accurately.

Lies. I appreciate you as a forum brother, but I appreciate if you stopped your lies. Samsung's fingerprint reader is as if not even MORE secure than TouchID. Samsung intergrated it into the power button first because they are simply superior. In addition, Samsung's facial recognition is also just as secure if not MORE than FaceID.

No sane person on the planet has ever said or insinuated that. There's plenty of "vs" articles you can find with a simple Google search.

I'd be grateful if they threw it into the side button on an iPhone and let me choose which authentication to use.

Or for security minded folk, have it as a second factor on your device and use both.
