Awful Quality Control

I have had two iPads both returned, one was delivered with dents on the metal rim where it it meets the glass. The second had screen bleeding (I didn't go looking for it but noticed it whilst watching a movie at 1/2 brightness).

I have seen two others at close range, one had a definite yellow looking screen and the other had a dead pixel.

What the hell is going on with Apple, this is a premium product, is the technology not up to making these things.

I have decided not to bother with an iPad as I can't be bothered with trying to find one with out any faults.

I will wait till either Apple sorts its own quality control out (instead of relying on consumers to do it for them) or a competitor brings out a better made product.

If you bought them from the same store then it's entirely possible they both came from the same batch, or in the case of the first one, perhaps you received one that someone returned (though the store should have caught the dents). I have found the build quality on my new iPad to be impeccable. The "yellow screen" has been hotly debated, and it appears to be the difference between two different models of screen (Apple has multiple suppliers) rather than a defect.

If I'm buying Kia, no. If I'm buying a Ferrari, yes absolutely.

If I'm eating at McDonald's, no. If I'm eating at a five star restaurant and spending $75 per entree, your damn right it better look like the picture in the menu.

Apple is supposed to be top of the line. The products should be perfect. There are plenty of posts in all different threads around here where people claim that there iPads are perfect. So like I said before, theirs is perfect everyone else should be able to say the same thing.

Apples products have never been perfect... ever. (neither are Ferraris) They just better build quality than your average PC manufacture, which is how they've earned that moniker.

However, when you're dealing with assembly lines that produce millions of products you are going to suffer defects and anomalies, and the amount of defective product continues to go up the more you produce... thats just a fact of business.

What makes Apple "top of the line" like Ferrari and a 5 star Restaurant is that that they will continue to take back every iPad no matter how minor the defect is. Few other companies will provide that type of luxury.

The sky is falling!

The sky is falling!

Mine is Perfect.

Build Quality is near as perfect as it gets.

Incredible display.

Are u checking it out in a dark room with the brightness turned up, black screen and tilting your iPad at different angles?

Yeah, I bought the new iPad just to do exactly that.

In the Dark
Max Brightness
And to look at a Black Screen at impracticle angles.

I guess if you get a "good" iPad the first time like most people did, you'll think their quality is just fine. If you didn't, well then I guess you won't be impressed with it.

Actually, the way you phrase things...you are calling others liars. Reread what you post for tone.

I did reread it, and you are so way off base it isn't even funny. I think before you start giving out pointers on post tones, you should do a quick check on yours. If you read I was calling him a liar from my post, you need new glasses. And a new attitude to match.

And the same goes for you. I've noticed that you frequently respond to question threads simply to indicate that answering the question would be a violation of the carrier's terms of service, or to say that the OP should just Google the issue. (here, here, and here, for example.) Firstly, there's no rule here at MacRumors stating that you can't discuss things that violate a carrier's TOS (that's why there are "Hacks" sections.) Secondly, just because you may have moral objections to something doesn't mean everyone else does, or should.

If you can't or don't want to answer someone's question, then why even post in the thread? Posts like that are unnecessary and unhelpful, and just come off as obnoxious.

Because I can?

Well, then it's a good thing I'm not supposed to please you with my posts, because otherwise I would be failing miserably...

Yes, I respond to unauthorized tethering threads with a comment about the TOS because it is one. And when people start getting all surprised when AT&T sends them a message and throttles them, it serves to remind them they dug their own hole. They seem to forget that. So I am providing a valuable public service. :p <--- (indicates sarcasm. Just in case you missed it.)

Secondly, just because you may have moral objections to something doesn't mean everyone else does, or should.

Oh really? So stealing is morally relative? Interesting. The difference between RIGHT and WRONG is sometimes not that complicated. Please feel free to ignore my posts if they bother you. You attempt at internet policing is quite ineffective.

I dont get why people get so worked up in here, seriously.

Its a mass produced high end electronic device. If you got one and its perfect (or within spec) then thats awesome, enjoy it, most people do. And if you got a lemon then pick up the phone, call apple and they'll take care of you. Whats so apocalyptic about it? its not like its hand crafted by an electronics sansei...

In fact I just got mine and it had all sorts of things going on with the screen: bleed, yellowing (yes I have photo proof compared to another ipad 3) and crap under the screen. Was it annoying? yes. but all it took was a phone call and now a replacement is on its way along with a nice smart cover for my "inconvenience". I don't know what the big deal is. Stop whining so much :D

"Stealing" implies illegality; tethering - even without a tethering plan - is not illegal. I am using the data I've already purchased. The carrier is the one cheating me by attempting to charge me extra for it. Morally speaking, the carriers are guilty. Not those who tether.

Regardless, unless you are an agent for one of these carriers, you really have no business telling anyone else how to use their device. You use Apple products in spite of the poisoning, militaristic work conditions, and slave wages of Chinese Foxconn workers, so it's a bit comical for you to preach to others about morality.

Ok, you win. No way I'm arguing with logic like THIS.

I know what my tone is and when its bad, its intentional. I am not way off base with my assessment of your tone.

Sound thinking

i had this postulation, if u didnt get the first few batches during the launch, most likely u'll have problems with them.

People can become OCD when they read about others having issues. You start examining your device more and you start seeing things you didn't originally notice. Also I think when people are specifically looking for faults they may see things that don't really exist or are within a certain tolerance (from a six sigma/qa point of view) so wouldn't really warrant a replacement.

The quality control is really not good enough this time to the extent I begin to worry about Apple. The screen of my first one is very yellow, it even has a dust underneath the screen which covers several pixels! Unbelievable!

The screen of my second one is more blue, but still not perfect. It has some minor uneven tint issues and some minor light bleeds. However these will not affect my daily use, so I decided to keep it and just enjoy the damn thing...
