It is dead. Just like Windows XP.

No growth, just a slow release from life support.

Only an idiot would still develop for brain-dead standards.

Yet the majority of sites that have video or animation use Flash STILL, and it's still pretty darn irritating that I can't go to those sites with my iOS devices.

well, its still quite common to encounter flash throughout the internet... so I'll enjoy my increased compatibility and desktop-like web experience

and windows xp, unsupported sure, but again, very common. Should all web hosts block requests from windows xp computers because the platform is 'dead'?

give me compatibility, thanks

The iPad 3 is a good device and if someone surveyed me, I'd say I was "somewhat" satisfied. Had I purchased it without reference to the iPad 2 I might say "satisfied", but I must say that in everyday normal use, I notice the yellow screen, extra weight and thickness, and heat from the battery much more than the increased pixel resolution and graphic speed. But none of those are deal breakers, although I almost prefer the iPad 2 (but already sold it) as I no longer can read with one hand holding my iPad 3.

Count me among the fully satisfied. Heat is absolutely, in no way, an issue for me. And I use mine very frequently, and I love to play games on it as well.

Agreed. I actually returned my ipad 3 and kept my ipad 2 due to the weight/thickness, heat, and reduced battery life (didn't notice a yellow tint). Remember the "thinner, lighter, faster" ad for the ipad 2? Those things remain very important to me. That's not to say the ipad 3 is a bad device or a step backwards, but it just didn't end up being worth the cost of upgrading. It felt like two steps forward and one step back - a net gain, but the step back still bothers me.

Well, if you daily use a web site that's one of the largest news organisations worldwide, and that uses flash, it's more than a little annoying that it would be pointless to buy/use an iPad as it just doesn't support this almost universally accepted technology...

You haven't been listening. It is NOT universally accepted tech. Adobe itself has abandoned Flash development for mobile devices.

Flash might not make sense (not that I necessarily agree) for small devices with limited processing power but the iPad is not limited (an i5 is much more powerful than the Atom that my Netbook quite happily uses to display flash content..)

Jobs explained why Flash was a non-starter two years ago in his Thoughts on Flash memo. All of those reasons apply to the iPhone, iPod Touch, and the iPad.

What exact website are you talking about that hasn't gotten the memo about flash? Do they really not have an iOS app for their service?

An 82% "very satisfied" result is good, particularly given the increase from last year.

But I don't think that the 16% "somewhat satisfied" result is something to brag about. "Somewhat satisfied" is not really a good result for a company like Apple.

Depending on what options people get to answer, there are always persons who will not select the top choice ever!

From "it can always be better" to always approaching things in a negative way.

Glas half full vs. glass half empty type of people.

You've completely eradicated the OS on your tablet, and installed an unsupported one that you must more or less maintain yourself. But doing half that work to an iPad to get Flash wouldn't interest you?

haha, touche, and fair enough. Honestly, I only got it because it was $150. If that opportunity never arose, I probably would have gotten a second hand ipad, I dont really need a tablet. I go further on a tangent, but it is my first experience with android and I'm pleasantly surprised with the experience.

Seriously though, what are you referring to when you say "But doing half that work to an iPad to get Flash wouldn't interest you?" There's a reliable way to get flash working locally? I've tried some flash plugins from cydia on my iphone 4 and they fail most of the time.

What kind of rating does the note get in the "small tablet that is actually a phone and stylus" category?

The new iPad is only the 3rd Apple product I've ever owned. So far, the media has ruined my buzz on all three product launches I've been through. They make a big deal out of the stupidest things, and then anyone that sees me using whatever the new thing is, instead of asking me if I like it or not, starts asking me about all the BS they've seen in the news.

Consumer Reports, CNET, Gizmodo, and all the rest of these tech "news" sites need to be taken to task for the crap that they post. I wish there was a way to outlaw click bait.

PS: Before anyone accuses me of being insecure and buying Apple stuff for the wrong reasons--I don't use Apple stuff because it looks cool. I just hate when people ask me stupid questions.

Just get used to it. There has not been an iPhone/iPad release without a bevy of claims that most people never see of experienced. A portion of apple fans are insane and delusional and just make up crazy stuff returning products over and over. When a hundred people dont have a problem but one guy gets 7 yellow screens in a row, it is pretty easy to identify the problem.

Just vet any potential issues or complaints on your own and with other normal people and it is fine. There have been some legitimate problems but most post launch complaints come from people with no perspective and balance in their lives.

74% + 23% = 95%. Lol

It is called rounding error. The missing stuff is in the decimal points not being shown. This is way when the printed reports often times will either add up over 100% or not quite make it there.

CR got a Reality Check from the response to their survey: 0% of the respondents had a "very big problem" with the iPad's heat. They have the journalistic integrity to report on what their users are actually saying in their survey. That's not great; I would expect nothing less from the magazine.

I think it is more the Apple fanboys and appoligy crew that trashed CR for printing a fact. The iPad 3 gets noticeably hotter than than the iPad 2. If you noticed they did not trash the iPad for it. They just printed a cold hard fact. It was the fanboy crew that took it and ran with it saying OMG CR is trashing Apple.

My guess is during their review they noticed it was warmer than the old one and more than likely saw reports on the internet of such. Since there were reports on it all over the place they did a real test to get exactly how it was different. This prevent saying they were just making up stuff. It was a good review.

I did not see where they put that as a negative but more as a fact saying yes we noticed that and here are the exact results and how we did it. It was one of the better temp test I have seen out there as most I have seen from Android reviews is it gets hot/very warm when in heavy use compared to X but lack any real results. On laptops some reviews give the temps and locations and I like them to do that. Mostly because I want to know where it will get toasting and how.

In my surfing experience, the lack of Flash support makes little difference. The number of times I have been inconvenienced by the lack of flash is about the same as the number of times that I have had to switch browsers, downgrade/upgrade a browser or restart my PC because Flash messed something up.

At the end of the day, nothing is perfect and it is up to the individual to make the educated choice what suits them better. Our household is happy with our iOS devices, and we will be making a full transition to Apple once the new iMac is released.

But it is the same basic price as the phone... it's just not offset by 2 year cellular contracts. That's one of the most amazing things about the ipad IMO.

Well when you jam all that crap into a phone, it costs extra money, but when you have more space to put it in, you can make the stuff better.

This times a trillion. My older brother who knows NOTHING about technology saw my new iPad and first words out were, "Does that burn your hands when you use it?":eek::rolleyes::rolleyes:

I calmly said, "No. All electronics get hot when in use. What do you think will happen to metal/gold/plastic when millions of transistors are firing at the same time? Get colder? My laptop can cook my nuts if I leave it on my lap too long...." /end conversation and new topic

The users who actually remembered that flash is STILL not supported...?!

Still amazes me that people continually forget this..

Apple to Adobe: "We've changed our minds and want to put your wonderful Flash plugin on our new iPad!"

Adobe to Apple: "I'm sorry, we don't support flash for mobile devices any more."

How can people expect Apple to include support for a third-party's software that isn't even in development any more?

Get windows xp.

Alright, you got me, too. :) I haven't even tried. No real interest. Any place I've gone that is Flash based has alternate mobile means, now. (or, something) And that isn't many, I haven't been fond of Flash since 1997 when it first started crashing for me.

Even my 12yo got sick of Flash games this weekend and went looking for actual games. Had to login to the Mac App Store and get them on his computer.

Well, I think that number should be closer to 100% because the only people complaining are getting all OCD on their screens. :)

I am pretty satisfied, however I find the fact that they continue to charge $100 for an extra 16gb troubling.

That is essentially subsidizing the lower end models. If nobody paid for the upgraded models apple might have to raise the base price above 499.

Worlds most stupid comment right here. I dont expect an ipad to make me a coffee but am i asking too much to view all web pages?

I think his/her point was that people who buy an iPad don't expect it to support flash. Just like they don't expect it to make coffee. Sure there are people who buy it without doing basic research or asking questions...but by now...anyone who buys an iPad thinking it plays flash derserves the dissapointment for not doing basic research on the thing.

If so. Fair enough. In my view came across differently. In America and the uk flash is less important. For example in the uk u can get sky sports on the ipad i believe. But when you live in a country that doesnt have apps like that it can be a deal breaker. But if i ever did buy an ipad i could hardly complain then that it doesnt have flash as they never have or would.

So you are saying flash is a third world tool? I agree.

The new iPad doesn't make coffee, walk the dog, or hang up my coat, but I didn't buy it for those reasons either.

And how long does the battery last you on the Atom....?

as an iPad 2 owner i have to say, that Apple blowed this generation for me.
And for your battery question: a Netbook with an Atom and same size battery as the new iPad will last longer than the iPad.

I tried the new version, and for me the display alone is not enough of an upgrade, especially when there are some downgrades elsewhere (thicker, heavier, not very comfortably to hold because of the temperature, slightly slower in loading pages, because of the amount of pixels to draw)

I wait for the next gen, with a CPU speed bump.

Please refrain from using labels to describe people. The f-word offers nothing constructive in this discussion. Thank you.

I think it is more the Apple fanboys and appoligy crew that trashed CR for printing a fact.

Incorrect. CR rated the iPhone 4 higher than many other phones -- including the iPhone 3G -- but they did not give it a "recommended" rating. Consumer Reports never reconciled this internal inconsistency in their own rating system.

The iPad 3 gets noticeably hotter than than the iPad 2. If you noticed they did not trash the iPad for it. They just printed a cold hard fact. It was the fanboy crew that took it and ran with it saying OMG CR is trashing Apple.

CR went with a sensationalistic headline for the article. Now, we see that 0% of their customers have a serious problem with the heat. The complaints were not worthy of CR's headline: "Our test finds new iPad hits 116 degrees while running games." It was sensationalistic link-bait designed to get hits for CR's website.

My guess is during their review they noticed it was warmer than the old one and more than likely saw reports on the internet of such. Since there were reports on it all over the place they did a real test to get exactly how it was different. This prevent saying they were just making up stuff. It was a good review.

"This prevent saying they were just making up stuff."

It would have been fine to include it as a detail in the article. It was inappropriate to have it be the lead for the story.
