Give it a few days , will be sold out everywhere...
It's people like you and apple that try to create a false sense of inventory for a product & try to push those on the fence on making a purchase.

It's a marketing scheme. :)

For both the iPad and iPad2 launch, my local Best Buy's had ample stock on launch day and never depleted stock.
They usually do run out of the 16gb WiFi model since it's the cheapest model but other models are usually available.

Best Buy appears to have good relations with apple and they appear to make sure they have the inventory to meet the demand and then some.

Third party sellers didn't start selling iPad 2 (in Atlanta anyway) until like 4:30-5:00PM last year. So, a lot of people were able to leave work to get in line, etc, and I scored one at Best Buy but was very lucky as a lot of people left empty handed.

Since sales began at 8AM (or midnight @ Wal-Mart) most people have to be at work and so the crowds are down. I would guess that in-stock will dwindle over the day/weekend.

BTW, FedEx truck just pulled up at 10:10am with my two new iPads. See you guys later...

Has anyone else noticed that FedEx home delivery trucks have a somewhat unique sound?

I swear that there is some combination of the engine and exhaust note, along with the peculiar rattle of the aluminum body, and the odd timbre of the door opening and closing that is unique to FedEx. I can be rocking' out to my stereo, practicing the Goldberg Variations on the piano, or vacuuming the carpets - and my ears still pick up the sound of that FedEx Home truck pulling into my neighborhood.

I'm promised delivery by 3.00 pm. Usually FedEx hits my 'hood around noon. We'll see how busy he is today....

It's definitely not like last year. When I was at the apple store last year, it was hectic. Employees were giving each other high fives and I even saw one guy getting a hand job under the table by an employee. This year, it was boring, I just walked in, bought one, then walked out. No high fives or hand jobs this time.

My new iPad is restoring 21GB of apps, so it will be a while...

Yes, I was at the dining room table next to the front door on my MBA typing away when I heard that distinct diesel engine clacking sound. Sweeeeeet....

What?? Free handjobs last year for the iPad2 release? I'll never order online again. :)

To anyone living in Glendale,CA or anywhere near it..
The Apple Store in the Glendale Galleria and the one @ The Americana have plenty in stock (32&64GB's) so yea.. :D

I am avoiding the lineup if at all possible

I've done that many times and to be frank, it takes me longer and longer to recover from standing outside for hours in cold weather

I preordered :) I am pretty sure most people who are getting iPad on launch day did that as well

lol I mentally prepared myself tonight, thinking there would be the after work rush only to find literally 1 person in front of me. Got my 64gb white and was out the door in less than 5 mins.

Houston, TX

I'd had mine reserved today and the employees at the Apple store mentioned the same thing. . . "the store isn't that crazy." Only about 60 people showed up prior to the doors opening at 8am. They had plenty of iPads available to those who simply walked up and wanted to purchase them.

I think many of the people were thinking that an upgrade from 2 to 3 was not really that necessary. Many of the blogs I've read stated that there was not a profound upgrade from 2 to 3. I think since Siri was not included, this may have played a part in the "demand" as well.

lol, what?

When iPad is as ubiquitous as it is, there are no more reasons for hype. The "cool" guys are waiting for the next Samsung Galaxy Tab which is expected to have even better screen (and all other components in Samsung tablets have always had better that the ones in iPad).

If there are so many in stock, why does the Apple website have 2-3 week shipping?

I think thes is the result of having Cook in charge and not Jobs. Jobs was more of a salesman while Cook is a logistics guy. I think he felt that the brand is known well enough now that we don't need pictures of long lines, and so he made sure there were plenty of iPads stockpiled as well as had preorders available. I think it was a smart move because people know that Apple can meet the demand, and at a certain point, artificially keeping down demand would just be too obviously a ploy and begin to tarnish the brand.

A work colleague of mine walked into the Apple Store in Calgary (Chinook) waited 10 minutes and got the iPad he wanted. I heard stories of Best Buy and Futureshop having plenty of stock too.

I wonder how the "scalpers" on eBay are making out?

There are so many in stock in retail stores because of all the time apple had to make them and bring them over, the 2-3 week is probably the time it usually takes from start to getting to the US, or a conservative estime apple is giving out to wait and see how demand develops.

BTW a friend that's in miami told me there were no ipads in the super target at the sawgrass mills mall, he might drop by the apple store in miami beach today still or tomorrow, i wonder how stock keeps up.

It's called marketing. Other manufacturers do this as well at product launches.
Create a false sense of inventory and push those contemplating upgrading or getting an iPad to get one now if they happen to see one while browsing B&M stores locally.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. I won't get fooled again(new iPad). :D

It's already been reported by many that target was only supplied with limited stock(10-20) just like Walmart.

It seems Best Buy and Apple stores got the majority of the stock.

I live in a city of 500,000 and there were well over 100 people in the walk up line this morning at 8am. The store got a surprisingly large stock though, well over 100 boxes were out and an employee told me they had more in back. I think Apple had more production ramped up for this launch than for previous ones.

Not good.
If you search the completed Auctions, some did hook some desparate fish and got over $100 over MSRP but most only made out with $50 or less over MSRP.

Wow...just wow

Yeah, it had nothing to do with the fact Apple was more prepared for this launch after they underestimated the iPad 2's demand!
