This took courage.

I agree with the consensus that this is a pretty depressing move. However, at least the adapter will be included in the Apple Pencil box. I thought it looked like you’d have to purchase both, which would’ve been even more horrible.

Why would anyone buy this over the iPad Air when you can buy the air for just over $500 all the time? But I do like the new keyboard. Wonder if it is backlit? Maybe I missed it.

This is the worst forced market segregation I’ve seen so far built on top of the stupidest engineering idea ever (charging the apple pencil from the iPad lightning port). It’s just, well, crap.

They should have just binned the 1st gen pencil and reduced the price of the 2nd gen one.

I don't think this matters all that much, the demographic for this iPad must not be heavy pencil users, I'm sure Apple have run the numbers. This makes the price increase a little harder to justify though.

if you look at their reasons for not including the charge brick for iphone, environmental, seeing them do stuff like this is stupid.
if they just kept the magnetic strip on it and it supported 2nd gen only that would be less shipping of new products (only selling 2nd gen). and not to mention less broken/lost adaptors. it’s utterly embarrassing
