really? well apple cant seem to find it, nor can fedex so i woulud assume that well defines lost. I dont know why they would send a new one if it wasnt lost?

It is NOT Lost. Fedex simply has ZERO access to them. You got a clueless call centre worker who has from what I can see WAAAAYY too much power to just throw free stuff at people.

It honestly sounds like you got stupidly lucky and got through to the village idiot at the Apple call centre. Because I think just about everyone knows by now that the tracking is not guaranteed to work at all untill tomorrow or the 16th.

Also how would Fedex possibly "find" your package when it is locked in the back of a truck that they have no access to? Of course they could not find it.

I honestly cannot believe you claimed your iPad was lost before it was even release day. And I cannot believe Apple humored you as much as they did.

lol they have access to them, that is how other people have had theirs scanned already..... duh

apple seemed to have humored you more than me, they have only resolved my problem by sending a replacement IPAD and giving me two free accessories.

lol i spoke to two differnt supervisors and a shipping inquiry team who gets paid to do nothing but call their third party shipping comanies backend (not just a csr of fedex they call the shipping area), and have them walk out the the container or whatever it is in and check it. THEY DO HAVE ACCESS that is how other people have had theirs scanned. and active tracking numbers.

You can have an active tracking number without "scanning" it. Have you never had a package where the tracking number is active and says it is waiting to be picked up?

The tracking numbers can be entered by whoever is sending the parcel or by FEDEX or wheoever before they are collected when someone arranges a collection, they then become active but just a holder until they are properly scanned later.

touche

never thout about that.

what about the people with fedex that shows there package shpping and moving between states? you would think those have been scanned.

I had an order being delivered by Fedex Freight once that got lost. The night before "delivery", they called and set up a delivery time. When the time came and went I called and they denied making the call the previous day and claimed that they had no record of the shipment.

It was *gone* and they denied ever having had it in their system! (Even though I had seen tracking data up to the local hub and wasn't surprised to get the call.) I asked about a claim process and they outlined a 6 month deal. So I called the shipper who promptly took care of it--I'd hate to have to work with the shipping companies on a regular basis!

BTW, two weeks afterwards I got a call from Fedex and they said it had turned up in a small town in a completely different part of the country and they asked if I wanted it delivered still.

I had long since gone to a local store and bought the product locally!

well there is a chance they both will show up, because they said they cant cancell the first one since it "has shipped" in there systems. too bad my Conscious would eat me alive if i kept both. i wish though!

Nice to see some one on this forum who doesn't have to ask if this is the right thing or isn't advocating that it's their mistake so he gets to keep it (Specially when apple is nice enough to give you something extra for your trouble. Many companies wouldn't bother. Just tell you sorry for the inconvenience and tell you they can't control FedEx's issues).

Anyways, hope you get your iPad Friday. If not, well, at least you don't have to wait til May ;) (though for me it's cause my mom is being nice and handing me down her iPad 2 but she doesn't want to mail it to me so I have to wait til i visit her. I can't really complain since it's a free iPad :) but I do have to say that now that I know I am getting one I want one to play with so waiting 2 months seems a long time).

Good boy. Once I ordered a Bose sound dock and the tracking said it was delivered but I never got it. No one signed for it and I guessed that the delivery man left it on my doorstep and one of my neighbors stole it.

I called Bose and told them that I never got it and they said they were going to send me another one at no charge.

I later found the package hiding behind a bush in my yard. I would've loved to keep that one and the other one that was being sent to me, but I would feel so guilty and that it would be like stealing. So I immediately called them and told them that I found it and to cancel the replacement they were sending out.

Yes, Fed Ex can't find the package. I wonder how many packages they needed to sort through....these was NO way they could have missed it.

LOL something can be lost then later found. Its current location is unknown. im not saying it ceased to exists in this plane of existence

Did I say it "ceased to exist" ?

I mean there is no way some Fed Ex sup had one of his warehouse workers digging though 1000 packages to look for a specific package...no way he could have missed it....no way he went and took a smoke break instead....

never said you did.. you just made it sound like something cant be lost, then found. If the fedex guy cant find the package due to 1000 of ones to sort through, then it is currently lost, not found, un locatable.

...and in possibly related news, I now have tracking numbers for 7 packages from Fedex on Friday, and I only ordered 6 iPad's. No accessories, no Applecare. Anyone else getting an uneven number of boxes versus what you actually ordered?

maybe mine slipped in yours ; )

A package handler most likely just missed the scan of your barcode. It's still where it should be, it's just not tracking right now because someone missed scanning it. Think of the person that is scanning thousands and thousands of iPad boxes.. you're going to miss a box once in a while. I bet your iPad will magically appear to be tracking tomorrow or whenever it moves next.
