Apple's next-generation iPad Pro models will be equipped with two front-facing cameras, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.

In his Power On newsletter today, Gurman said the upcoming iPad Pro models with the M5 chip will have both portrait and landscape cameras, letting you capture photos and go on video calls without having to worry about the device's orientation.

The current iPad Pro models with the M4 chip have a single front camera that is designed to be used in landscape orientation.

Face ID already works in any orientation on the iPad Pro.

After being updated with an OLED display and a much thinner design last year, the iPad Pro will likely receive relatively smaller upgrades this year. For now, the key rumored changes include the M5 chip and the dual front cameras.

Last year, Apple supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said iPad Pro models with an M5 chip would enter mass production in the second half of 2025. The current iPad Pro models with the M4 chip launched in May 2024, and Apple typically updates the iPad Pro on a roughly 18-month cycle, so the next models could be released in September or October.

I hope they have thinner bezels!!

At least for me, I usually use Face ID for payment when I’m paying something online and have the iPad or iPhone in my hands anyway. In that situation, Touch ID is faster and more convenient than Face ID with the double-press. I still experience the difference whenever I use my iPad mini 5 for payment or even just authentication.
I agree that Touch ID makes online Apple Pay a bit simpler (been a while for me though), and like the "rant" [their term] I quoted, my left hand also blocks my iPad Pro's Face ID, so rather than suggest they get an iPad Air or iPad mini, I deflected a bit, offering up the part about how their Apple Watch is ideal for in-person Apple Pay, hehe. Besides, how many online Apple Pay transactions does one do?

Hopefully they stop with the bs of locking the amount of memory to the storage size. It was such a dk move by Tim Cook to only have the 1tb+ iPads have more memory. I will just not buy if they keep doing this

iPad Mini Pro! GIVE IT TO ME NOW ALREADY!!!!! I’m so sick of these idiots not doing it and leaving big money on the table! I bet you it would outsell both 11”-13” combined!
I won't comment on the money or sales thing because I want them to make it

But yes, give me an iPad Mini Pro ASAP

I’m still rocking a 2018 iPad Pro. But I think I will finally upgrade this Fall if the M5 iPad Pros are announced. I’m an artist, and even tho I can still draw fine on my 2018 11” iPad Pro… I would love to be able to use the Apple Pencil Pro for even more artistic control. Plus the OLED screen will be nice. I may even go with the 13” model this time. These iPad Pros really last forever, so it’s worth it to me. My 2018 iPad Pro is still going strong after 8 years. So the M5 iPad Pro should last me until 2034 or later!

Don't have the MKB, so is the tipping issue on a desk or on your lap? If desk, (in the spirit of diverse use cases) someone who hasn't invested in the MKB could use an iPad stand (like this one I learned about on MR) with the BT keyboard/trackpad of their choice. Landscape or portrait.

And also in the spirit of the thread, the iPad took the pic.

While nice to have, it won’t work for folks who use iPad to work on the go. Yes not as versatile as MacBook but can get the job done in a pinch. I use iPad to work many times. Such desk-bound setup would not work and I must have MKB.

Camera`s should at least be 48Mp 120fps to make me look pretty.
oh and remove wrinkles too make me look younger.
Why not they have had 100 megapixel for a few years now.
Chinese already had all of these figured out years ago and they have all the beautify features built in today, now with the power of AI.
Apple is falling behind so hard.

So I guess if the M4 iPad Pro made my eyes hurt, there’s no point in trying this one because it has the same screen. Oh well. My M3 is still holding up well.

2nd camera? Anyone could do that. How about an in-screen camera in the center of the screen that adjusts based on orientation of the iPad (all four ways it could be oriented)? Now that would be some innovation. (actually, it wouldn't because Lenovo already did it on one of their laptops. Image quality needs some work but at least they're trying. Certainly Apple can do better.)

Is there a reason we need an iPad with this much processing power? My M1 still feels like I’m using a super computer. What is the real gain here?

I can see how this might improve the uniformity a little, but I would only be impressed if software was able to combine both photos to create a really nice, higher-quality front image. The cameras are mediocre, like all front-facing cameras on Apple devices. We get a much better one on the back - and who in their right mind is using the back camera on an iPad?

can we get multiple personal spaces? sometimes the feature is called multiple users. on a phone its more about multiple personal spaces for better privacy/security/app+data segregation etc, and on ipad, it could function in a similar manner.

Don't see the need for two front facing cameras. Would have been better if an additional rear facing camera was added, i.e., the ultra wide camera which was removed in the M4 version.

So because the M5 is a mild spec bump, apparently M6 will be a leap in performance, and the iPad design especially the current one is so good with that OLED screen, they've reached desperation and will stick another front camera on it to try and differentiate it.

Revolutionary.

What would be truly revolutionary is if Apple just skipped updating the iPad all together until M6 is ready.

So they choose to play identity crisis games with cameras instead of giving us a real reason to use ipads and just put a hybrid macos/ios for both types of consumers to choose from. Whoever apple thinks talent is, they ain't it🤦‍♀️ like meta, they need a serious shake up of their employees, Tim Apple included
