If only they would make a bezel-less standard iPad, that would be small enough that many of us could get by without a mini. Hope springs eternal.

No new iPad Mini :(
[doublepost=1539383128][/doublepost]
It’s called iphone XSMax. A mini ipad mini. Turn the screen to landscape and it’s wider than the ipad mini.

What a great idea! So you're recommending the purchase of a $1000 iPhone, plus a $600+ annual subscription (cellular carrier), to replace a $400 device. I think I understand why people think this is inadequate ....

Yes but as you point out, they stick with the naming for at least 2 iterations each time. It's not like they released the iPad Air 1 and then immediately switched to Pro / iPad (nothing) after one iteration.
Then where is the iphone 7s?
Come on, apple can do anything if they want

This time though you failed, you should have removed the home button.

Still like your posts
Good catch! Guess I need a shorter monitor, so I see it from a better angle. ;)

So any bets on whether the Apple logo on the back will switch to landscape orientation? I’ve got to believe most iPad Pro users (especially 12.9”) use it in landscape mode.

My money would be on them keeping the logo oriented with the usb-c port.

What do you mean?
The 10.5 doesn’t actually get smaller in both dimensions. It gets a little wider (in portrait) because the bezel needs to be increased slightly to accommodate the TrueDepth camera system that powers FaceID. The bezel needs to be about 9mm to hide what would otherwise be a notch.

The previous rumor had the smaller Pro as an 11.0” diagonal, physically shrinking only about 3mm in height, but with 15mm of added display height to take up the space of the large top and bottom bezels of the old design. But that would have changed the aspect ratio, since the display width is supposedly staying the same.

If instead this newer rumor is true, the height will shrink not 3mm but about 18mm, for an approximate overall physical size of 232.5mm (H) x 178.7mm (W). The current model is 250.6mm x 174.1mm.

The old rumor of an 11.0” display seemed pretty strong, but it might have been based on a prototype that Apple didn’t decide to go with.

I think this makes the big one a lot more interesting. If the rumors are accurate, the 12.9” is around 280x215 mm.

The 12.9” display is about 263x198 mm, so with the expected bezel width of approx 9mm it looks like the 12.9” rumor was correct, even if the 11.0 10.5” was not.

Apple is widely expected to introduce new iPad Pro models with Face ID at a media event later this month, and we can now confirm that Apple has been testing those models internally over the past few months.
Apple tests products internally before they’re released? That’s good to know. It’s the kind of hard hitting investigative journalism I expect from MacRumors.

No, it’s not. Close, but still not usable for the purposes of those who most use the mini, such as pilots and doctors, and those who use it like a kindle.

There’s really no comparison. iPad mini has almost twice the screen area as the XS Max.

Just get an iPad Pro 10.5. I'm loving it. 12.9 maybe too big for you, but 10.5 is ultra slim, slimmer than the 12.9 version and in a more compact design. The screen has True Tone technology, it's great.

Very interested in these new iPads. I just really hope they don't have rounded corners on the screen.
Oh they’ll be rounded, it’s obviously the new design language and very Ive. The closer the display gets to the rounded device edge (i.e. as the bezel width shrinks), the more incongruous it looks to have a sharp 90° corner on the display.

The 10.5 won’t fit in a physician’s lab coat, or above the yoke of a plane. It’s also a very large and expensive kindle.

All in all, the 10.5, or 9.7” for that matter, is no substitute for those vertical markets that rely on them. Apple is well aware, and i think we’ll see at least a CPU update of the mini 4; they can’t keep selling an A8 device forever.

I guess if true that guarantees it’s still using an LCD, since Apple would have to increase the DPI for a pentile OLED, just to maintain the same sharpness.

I found the screen resolution part of this article to be really odd. It's built entirely on an assumption that the scaling factor remains as 2x, but presents it as some sort of fact.

If Apple bumped the scaling factor up to 3x like they did on the iPhone X, they could very well be 3336x2502 and 4098x3072 res screens and the logs would be identical.

Not saying the assumption is incorrect — I’d assume they’re staying at 2x too — but it is just that, an assumption.

I’m confused. How does one have hatred toward an inanimate object that has no effect on their life should they choose to not buy it?

Yeah, there is no point of doing that. Everyone has their own wishes.

But.... it is gone, sorry...just like the headphone jack.
[doublepost=1539420629][/doublepost]It is a shame if apple were to release an 11 inch iPad Pro with the same res. The only thing I can think of is that apple will use a bigger screen, but use a smaller portion of the screen for real content and have a separate area for the docks in vertical and horizontal use or something like that, to make multitasking easier and faster accessible while you are in an app.
But I don’ t know. As far as I am concerned, they could just have made a new 11.7 inch model , and release a new 10.5 inch and 12.9 inch with just updated internals, same old design. Just like they did with the release of the iPhone 8, 8+ and x.

Perhaps that is wat they are doing and the res what we are seeing is of the new, old design models. These would launch together with a new design 11 inch iPad Pro (X) and next year they will release a new 12.9 version of this iPad.

It could be the storybook of last year with the iphone8/plus and x, just this time for iPads.

My predictions: October 2018 a 10.5 and 12.9 inch iPad with updated specs, old design, and a new iPad at 11 inch with the updated design(limited availability at launch , just like with the x)
Next year: an 11 inch with updated internals and a new 12.9 inch in the same new design as the 11 inch (just like this year with the updated XS and new XS max).

The resolution leaks we are seeing of the iPad 8.. are the updated 10.5 and 12.9 inch ones of this year.

And... what if is this is (when paired with a new, more sophisticated Smart Keyboard cover) the rumored sub $1000 MacBook ?
Will we see the beginning of MacOS running on ARM architecture? ARM versions of Final Cut Pro, Xcode , etc? Together with an ARM based Mac mini?

This! If they are the "same" resolution but have rounder corners, that's actually less screen realestate (corner content cropped off).

Yeah, they already did this on the Apple Watch, and the design guidelines to avoid having text and image cut off, really limit the larger screen increase to little more than the display area of the original watch.

So the headphone jack removal article is at nearly 550 comments while this one is under 100. This rumor about the 10.5” staying 10.5” is more interesting to me. It contradicts everything so far and makes the rumored device dimensions overstated if they’re really going to shrink bezels around the existing screen size instead of increase to 11”. I might upgrade for that. Suddenly interested in the new pro...

As the hardware becomes sleeker it emphasises how pathetically outdated iOS's sparse 4xn grid of icons is as a primary interface.

They should make an iPhone that unfolds into an iPad mini. And then if you unfold it again you have 10.5 and if you unfold it again you have a 12.9 and if you unfold it again it becomes a 50” tv. That way everyone is happy
