This would be amazing as someone who always puts an anti-glare protector on mine. Can't stand glare. Even if this is extra I would gladly pay to not have to deal with bubbles on a crappy screen protector.

This is a top tier comment. I mean I like my m2 but it is so clunky sometimes to use. Apple needs to bite the bullet and just let users run macOS or macOS lite. Freeform window management, a dock, etc.

Stage manager has failed. The hardware is already powerful enough to run macOS so why do they give us this weird window manager?

Too bad window managers aren't apps that developers could submit to the app store or host on their alternative app stores, so if Apple doesn't want to do it, then let developers do it.
Apple really just needs to remove the 4 App/Window limit on external displays. The rest is up to app developers to actually implement the features that are in iPadOS today.

Veddy interastink. I keep a matte/paperlike screen protector on my main illustration Mini. It adds a faint layer of fog over the displays color vibrancy I didn't love at first but I got used to it. A factory option that accomplishes this with compensated color calibration would be pretty sweet. ...though I guess it would rule out adding a screen protector purely for protections sake. Hm.

I work in higher ed and I do see these matte protectors pretty regularly- much more often than "regular" screen protectors on an iPad. I wouldn't say they're *extremely* popular, but they're definitely not uncommon. I think the ads on Instagram and TikTok have found an audience with students taking notes in class.

But without further changes, how do you minimize/close windows? They should bring the macOS traffic lights to iPadOS!

The whole point of the nano texture glass is it avoids the usual tradeoffs of matte panels in exchange for less durability. I don't see any way Apple would offer that on a product where you are going to regularly smudge it and you probably can't properly apply oleophobic coatings. It doesn't make any sense to take a coating from a display you're supposed to, ideally, never touch,* and put it on a touchscreen product.

*Sadly, I know people who can't help but poke screens. So the nano texture would never be my choice :D
You basically answered your question. They want the screen break or be less durable so either you support their service revenue or upgrade yearly.

They been doing this with "cheaper" products removing features on Airpods and Apple Watch just so you know.

Not sure how this could be nano-texture glass. I have the Studio Display in nano-texture and it's been great but obviously I never touch the screen. Perhaps it's the anti-reflective glass rumored for the next iPhone.

I don't know what is taking them so long - it's not a whole new product, just a switch to a newer/better display tech.

We know the iPad, the hardware is always top-notch, it's the OS that bogs it down - an OLED matte screen will not change anything to that, unfortunately.

Get it out already?

Yes I agree there are use cases / people who prefer it. Everyone has personal preferences, and I respect that.

However a claim like “extremely popular” needs a citation.

EDIT: Looks like they removed the wording "extremely" - that's good, it was a bit of a stretch to call it "extremely", but just "become popular" I think I can buy into.

I don't and will not care at all about any iPad hardware rumors or actual product releases until iPad OS is vastly enhanced. If people find it sufficient, great; for me, it continues to be a heavily crippled OS.
Same here, actually thinking of selling all my apple stuff macbook, ipad and keep the phone, watch and airpods pro, and try the next surface announced tomorrow as a replacement for both macbook pro and ipad. I loved the ipad pro m2 and also hate it, I can’t switch from 2 tabs without having them to refresh, how is that a pro experience??Extremely frustrating. Just let us install macos or make a browser that uses swap idk just make it work jfc paying 2000$ for something that cant handle 2 simple websites!!!

i could buy a macbook air because i like the small form factor but again apple screwed here they’re not mini led. The 14 macbook pro ? Too heavy.

A matte finish is interesting I'm curious if this is Apple's response to 'Paper-Like' finish with the pencil in mind for artist if so I may consider the Matte option if clarity isn't too far gone although from reviewers of the XDR display a lot of YouTubers advice against it.

That would make a lot of sense. My wife is an artist (uses an iPad Pro) and would like that option.

Now do the MacBook Pro. The only thing preventing me from buying an M3-based MacBook Pro is its glaring display. A nano-texture display on a MacBook Pro is a no-brainer.

I somehow doubt it at least for this iteration, Apple needs to bring them back to the MBP line up first before having them for the more scratch prone iPad line. Still, I wouldn't mind an option for pre-installed paper like screen protectors since I'm pretty terrible at installing them. Tesla is already doing this as an add on options for their cars.

Matte screens, no thanks. Everything looks better with glossy displays.

Especially not with the nano texture technology aka the FineWoven of display technologies. Too many people have problems with this.

I’d be all in on this. Have a matte protector on my iPad Pro now and love it.
I have matte protectors on all devices with a touchscreen. They not only cut out glare from overhead lights, but eliminate fingerprint smudges and reduce the drag when sliding a finger on the screen. Back in the day, I'd pay extra to get the matte screen option on my Macbook Pros. I have always disliked glossy screens... but I've been spoiled by ThinkPads.

My iPhone, iPad Mini, and base iPad have matte screen protectors. The protectors really enhance the user experience, IMO. One interesting side-effect on the base iPad, due to the properties of the protector, the air gap on the non-laminated base iPad seems to "disappear".

I had been hoping that Apple would make a matte screen an option for iPads. Sounds like it is finally going to happen.
