Apple really just needs to remove the 4 App/Window limit on external displays. The rest is up to app developers to actually implement the features that are in iPadOS today. This is a top tier comment. I mean I like my m2 but it is so clunky sometimes to use. Apple needs to bite the bullet and just let users run macOS or macOS lite. Freeform window management, a dock, etc.
Stage manager has failed. The hardware is already powerful enough to run macOS so why do they give us this weird window manager?
Too bad window managers aren't apps that developers could submit to the app store or host on their alternative app stores, so if Apple doesn't want to do it, then let developers do it.

But without further changes, how do you minimize/close windows? They should bring the macOS traffic lights to iPadOS!Apple really just needs to remove the 4 App/Window limit on external displays. The rest is up to app developers to actually implement the features that are in iPadOS today.
You basically answered your question. They want the screen break or be less durable so either you support their service revenue or upgrade yearly. The whole point of the nano texture glass is it avoids the usual tradeoffs of matte panels in exchange for less durability. I don't see any way Apple would offer that on a product where you are going to regularly smudge it and you probably can't properly apply oleophobic coatings. It doesn't make any sense to take a coating from a display you're supposed to, ideally, never touch,* and put it on a touchscreen product.
*Sadly, I know people who can't help but poke screens. So the nano texture would never be my choice![]()

Yes I agree there are use cases / people who prefer it. Everyone has personal preferences, and I respect that.I work in higher ed and I do see these matte protectors pretty regularly- much more often than "regular" screen protectors on an iPad. I wouldn't say they're *extremely* popular, but they're definitely not uncommon. I think the ads on Instagram and TikTok have found an audience with students taking notes in class.
oh, so we get the selfdestructing flickering OLED displays with great blacks b u t with a matte option...! whoa - apple takes away and gives us other options... hm.
When will apple bite the damn bullet and let us run macOS or macOS lite from the iPad? That would be a killer feature!
Same here, actually thinking of selling all my apple stuff macbook, ipad and keep the phone, watch and airpods pro, and try the next surface announced tomorrow as a replacement for both macbook pro and ipad. I loved the ipad pro m2 and also hate it, I can’t switch from 2 tabs without having them to refresh, how is that a pro experience??Extremely frustrating. Just let us install macos or make a browser that uses swap idk just make it work jfc paying 2000$ for something that cant handle 2 simple websites!!!I don't and will not care at all about any iPad hardware rumors or actual product releases until iPad OS is vastly enhanced. If people find it sufficient, great; for me, it continues to be a heavily crippled OS.
A matte finish is interesting I'm curious if this is Apple's response to 'Paper-Like' finish with the pencil in mind for artist if so I may consider the Matte option if clarity isn't too far gone although from reviewers of the XDR display a lot of YouTubers advice against it.
I have matte protectors on all devices with a touchscreen. They not only cut out glare from overhead lights, but eliminate fingerprint smudges and reduce the drag when sliding a finger on the screen. Back in the day, I'd pay extra to get the matte screen option on my Macbook Pros. I have always disliked glossy screens... but I've been spoiled by ThinkPads.I’d be all in on this. Have a matte protector on my iPad Pro now and love it.
