It can run iPhoto, Garage Band, iMovie, Pages, Numbers, Keynote, Omnifocus, iThoughts, and thousands of other extremely well done tablet apps that Android can't.

And incidentally that's probably the single most important thing to most tablet owners.

Oh I see how you would like to classify what the tablet can and can't to. I disagree with your criteria though. IE - Both tablets can do word processing, slideshows, edit videos, have music creation apps, photo editing. Would you say the PC can't do what a Mac can do and define that by saying that since Final Cut Pro isn't on a PC that it can't do video editing?

Yup.

What Devs Say About iPad (but not Android tablets)
http://gigaom.com/mobile/what-devs-say-about-ipad-but-not-android-tablets/

"Even now, however, Android tablet apps are taking a backseat to those for the iPad. It’s very rare that an app first appears on Android devices over those running iOS. And that gives Apple a competitive advantage in this market: Consumers in the know won’t want to invest in the devices that get software titles second (if at all), but will buy the hardware that has the best supporting software and ecosystem. If you don’t believe that, just ask a mobile app developer."

Meaningless link is meaningless link.

Sorry - but that's just - for lack of better word - crap. Name a few things - legitimate things that the iPad can do that an Android tablet can't..

There are, quite literally, over 200,000 iPad-optimized Apps available. There are, by way of contrast, probably less than a hundred Apps optimized for Android tablets. And - here's where that dreaded word "fragmentation" comes in - what looks good on a Galaxy 10.1, probably isn't going to look so hot on a Nook or Kindle Fire.

If the only clue we had about the new iPad's sales was the web-traffic figures, people might have a reason to be skeptical. But its not. We have all sorts of other data: The fact that ship dates are slipping to a couple of weeks on some models. The fact that both ATT and Verizon reported record activations over the weekend. And, yes, Apple's own press release. Taken with all the other data, web-traffic serves mainly as a "double check." If, after claiming to sell 3 million new iPads, web-traffic showed only 1 or 2 percent - then we'd have reason to question Apple's claim.

The fact of the matter is that Apple's numbers are, without exception, the most precise, and reliable for any Tablet platform. Neither Amazon nor Barnes & Noble ever publish precise sales figures for their devices. And these are the two leading "Android tablets." (Heaven only knows how many Pandigital POS got sold at Bed Bath & Beyond last week..) If you want to start nit-picking numbers, I'd start by going over some of the more questionable claims made on that side of the aisle.

:D, I literally LOL'd at Pandigital POS at Bed Bath & Beyond! hehe, well done.

You're a broken record. Please let me know when you can come up with a list of things the iPad can do that an Android tablet can't. I'm not talking about what it can do better (which is subjective) I am asking what the iPad can DO than an Android Tablet CAN'T. Thanks.

It can't draw a crowd or sell in volume numbers for one.
It can't run smooth without lag, I just saw a video on the newest Galaxy note and it was horrid.
And I guess technically you can say that most can't or won't run the newest OS.
I'm sorry but Android as a whole is just a bag of hurt and serves only one purpose for Google and that is advertising and user info other than that it makes no business sense for google.
It is mainly a trojan horse.

Again - I'm not trying to defend Android - but many posters like yourself make it almost impossible not to.

Whether or not you or someone enjoys the experience or not doesn't equate to the table being able to do or not do the same things as an iPad.

And it's subjective. I know many people who love their kindle fires, galaxy tablets, etc and have no lag issues, os issues and love their apps.

Again. What can the iPad DO that an Android Tablet can't. Not what can it do better. Not what App does one have that the other doesn't (if there's something comparable).

Fact is - there's very little if anything at all. And I know that's hard for some people to own up to. Personally I chose (for my tablet) the iPad. I like the experience better (for now) and I'm already heavily invested in the Apple ecosystem. But that doesn't mean for a second I believe that the iPad can do "more" than an Android tablet. It just does it differently.

How is lag subjective? It either lags, or it doesn't, and Android tablets lag hehe

My iPad experiences lag. So did my iPhone 4. Every computer/system lags.

User Experience is subjective. But with everything I posted - thanks for pulling out that specific comment which really has little to do with my point :)

If you iPad experiences lag, how is that subjective. That was my question. If your iPad lags, it lags. Lag is not subjective. Lag is very tangible hehe. Android tablet lag is very, very tangible. There's no subjective about it. :D

If "it's subjective" is not your point, then why are you going on and on about "don't tell me what it does better, tell me what it can't do"? That sentence in itself shows that your point is, that it's subjective!

No - the point is - when someone says that there are 200,000 things an iPad can do that an Android tablet can't - it's a ridiculous and ignorant statement. And, in my opinion, makes the OP's posts less worthy of reading because they are obviously trying to be "cute" vs having an intelligent conversation or dialogue.

Did you truly believe that he was being literal? If so, that's what's ridiculous and not his statement hehe :D

Maybe you missed the point:

There are 200,000 iPad Apps that NO ANDROID TABLET CAN RUN. Maybe, at some point in the future, developers will release Android-tablet optimized versions of them. But, as of this particular Tuesday morning, they haven't.

I believe he believes that Android tablets are crap and can't do what the iPad can do. Whether his number was 200,000 or 20. Irrelevant. This thread had nothing to do with Android. It's about iPad sales. Bringing in Android in these discussions while tangentially relevant is more about opportunities to slam the competition vs having a meaningful dialogue about the #s. Apple sold an amazing amount of iPads. Rejoice in that. When I have a big success in my life I don't immediately compare it to people who've done less. I just enjoy my success. And I realize it's not Apple doing this - it's the forum posters on here. To each their own. I just see little point in speaking in hyperbole as a means to put another company/product/OS down.

How about starting with providing a higher than high def experience? LOL

Everyone speaks in hyperbole, it's the internet! No need to get so upset by it hehe :D

Ok. that could be considered 1. One thing. Can you name another 3? or 2? Conversely - Android tablets can do things the iPad can't do. How about starting with providing the option to extend storage via memory cards?

It does not mean that iPad/iPad user can do something Android tablet/user can't, right? Besides, Android tablets have had higher resolutions than iPad for quite a while. iPad got a lead last week. It'll probably last a few weeks until Samsung releases its rumored new tablet with resolution higher than iPad (they are obviously capable to do that).

Shipped means shipped.

Sold according to stock market rules means "someone signed a contract that forces them to pay, and there is a good chance that Apple will get the money".

Sold to end users is almost the same, except when you steal an iPad from a store, or some get destroyed in a warehouse fire, Apple would still count them as sold because they got paid.

Apple doesn't publish "shipped" numbers. And if someone uses the word "shipped", you never know what they actually mean, because many people are careless with words.

Gotcha

Ok, lets look at it differently...
A horse and a car can both get you from New York to L.A., but the car just does it better. Yes, they both do the job, but your ass doesn't hurt as much when you arrive on the west coast in the car.:D

Yes, I know "it's subjective".

"Apple announced today" they got enough cash to lie better,
22 millions in one day!

Too bad Samsung Mobile makes tablets and doesn't make retina displays then.

All part of same parent company. It's essentially like Microsoft's enterainment and devices division taking a loss while their software division rakes in billions.

I believe he believes that Android tablets are crap and can't do what the iPad can do.

So that is the reason why you are getting all upset and worked up, because of what you think he believes? Well, I hope I won't rob your good nights sleep, but I flew with a First Officer last week, who has a Galaxy Tab. And he told me, it's crap :D

Jeez, people, it is just a piece of technology. Relax and calm down a bit ;)

I think you're mistaking my discussion on here as passionate. I could ultimately give a rats behind. I just find hyperbole silly as a means to discuss anything. Billions of posters in this thread have never used an Android tablet and the 6 trillion things it can do better than an iPad. See? ;)
