Hey Magicpie1980....I'm the one from the old Yellow Tint thread. As you can see I did end up getting back into the retail channel and 14 day return period.....of course at a price of a $100 loss having to sell the bad one.

Still not convinced this latest is totally good. That left side does appear darker in iBooks which makes it really noticeable when reading :(

Hey mcdj.....can you try something for me. I have no idea if it's just my eyes playing tricks....but I notice the left side is darkest for a minute or so after the screen is turned on. I know it's not my eyes adjusting because I'll open the smart cover....and see the darker left side. If I put the iPad down, still open, but don't look at it for a few minutes, when I go back....it's still a darker shade....but doesn't seem AS dark to me.

Heya Kevin,

The screens do seem to be getting better than the first week models but are still way of the uniformity of an iPad 2;/

Yeah I need the people just looking for an argument to stay out of these threads. I don't need to go back and forth with someone.....my eyes aren't lying....I SEE SOMETHING. Just because someone else doesn't, doesn't mean I'm wrong and they are right. :D

I think it is a crapshoot at this point still. Maybe these DY devices are better, but I doubt it. Afterall.....my launch day screen was pretty uniform. Except for the dust under the screen....I wish I could go back to that.

Oh well...for folks that are getting DY screens....keep posting with your results. Like I said and mcdj also noticed....my DY screen is pretty good except for the darker left side.

It just seems that they totally nailed the resolution while selling brightness and uniformity down the river. Looking seriously at the ASUS pad Infinity now but would really love to stay with Apple;(

I did something i had no intention of doing a couple of weeks ago. I bought that new $25 Splashtop app that works with the metro interface of windows 8.

I spun up a Windows 8 VM and connected with the app and it's VERY slick. I really like it a lot. The problems though is I'd have to wait toward years end to buy one, and I have to hope someone builds decent hardware for it. Plus I have a lot invested in iPad apps.

It really sux that the screens have turned out to be poor on so many new iPads. I just don't know what to do.

But I'll probably end up buying a new iPad again in a few weeks AND buying a new Metro based tablet when they come out.....

First iPad is a DY as well. No tint, bleed, or dead pixels - slight, almost imperceptible, darker edge on left side. Snow white screen. Done.

I can attest that not all DY 's have good screens. My 5th unacceptable iPad was a DY serial number (week 13), 64gb AT&T. It had the dimmest screen yet; no pink or green but very yellow near camera edge, and seemed slightly less sharp than previous 4 purchases.

Finally have one that I'm happy with. MUCH brighter than the DY (I'd say at least 25% brighter) and a very even, very sharp white screen. It's a 64gb Verizon, serial number DMPH....... week 14. I had almost given up, but I'm very pleased with number 6. Wish I hadn't had to go through all the exchanges, but this latest one is just great.

Will they let you do a brown box exchange if you take it in and say that the screen looks pink? Or will the say that it is within spec and send you home?

just out of curiosity. for those of you that finally got a good one, is it an att or verizon?

this might just be a crazy idea, but could it be possible since the att ipads are in more demand (because they're sold to more countries, hardware wise) then they're are trying to cut corners to meet demand more than the verizon? meaning whichever factory assembles verizon ipads are under less pressure? or am I smoking something?

Question for those with a darker left side

First iPad is a DY as well. No tint, bleed, or dead pixels - slight, almost imperceptible, darker edge on left side. Snow white screen. Done.

Curious for those with a DY screen and a darker left side....how far out does the darkness go? For me, I notice it most in iBooks with the Sepia tone. The left side is slightly darker about 1/3 of the way across.

Tempted to return this one. Seems to me maybe the darker left is caused by the backlighting on that side not being even?

In my case it's just a little strip running down the left side maybe a few milimeters wide. Sometimes I think I see it, other times I don't, but its obviously there since I noticed it.

Finally got a good one

Just thought I'd update the thread.....returned my DY due to the darker left side. Was so annoying trying to read in iBooks with it.

Picked up another 32GB white....first one had dust under the screen right inthe middle...they swapped right away (man Apple...clean those factories!!)

Next looks really good to me. Uniform, white, no dust or dead pixels. This is a DM serial number, week 15.

I was done after this one regardless....but it looks like I might finally have a decent screen.

Good luck to all!

I just ordered mine last week Coming from CHENGDU CHINA, Where do you find the production date and all the other info? Thanks.

When Apple switches to the Sharp IGZO screens, I'm all in with the iPad 3. Until then, I think you may have something here with the DY serials. Nice find!

Perfect screen!

I also noticed the ones in the stores with DMs can be horrendous, so these are luck of the draw.

The DL's in the store were good.
