No. the life of the mini has been greatly over exaggerated. It has no place as far as I can see in a modern line up. It used to be a great media server solution and still is but those days are over as other options are introduced.

The mini is a computer most people simply don't need these days.

This thread is about the new iPads and when we will see them. So Im obviously asking about the iPad mini, not the Mac mini.

Sounds like TC and crew have been sitting on their lazy butts again. The missing product updates are too numerous to list.

Or there is just simply something you aren't aware of. Do you really think you are more ambitious or smarter than Tim Cook? MR has been delusional lately. don't get me wrong I also have a very high sense of my own self importance.

Okay, it won't fit on a normal mac chassis and will be discontinued.

Yeah. 9.7" Pro is by far my fave iPad yet! The TrueTone takes the cake. I was disappointed that those sensors didn't make it into iPhone 7.
I may get the new one, just because I've had 6 of the last 7 9.7" iPads (skipped the mid-year 4th gen update), and frankly I'd love it to be a smidge bigger. I read comic books now exclusively on my iPad, and they are probably like 10-15% smaller than their physical counterparts. I looked at the 12.9", but that's CRAZY big to me! Maybe 10.5" will be the sweet spot I've been craving. :)

I hadn't thought about the ease of reading on this 10.5 unit. Argh.... more money to potentially spend!

I was hoping to spread the cost of an iPhone 8, iPad Pro, and late 2017 MBP over the course of the year, but now with all them being released within months of each other..... better start saving my pennies.

ipads are fantastic media consumption devices- nothing more. I'll hold onto my ipad air until it's as dead as Apple keynotes. Anything remotely productive is done on my PC.

Thanks for adding multitudes to this discussion, versus the hundred of the "Is The iPad a Computer" threads that exists elsewhere. ::rolls eyes::

another ipad... While apples management may think of OS X as the past, iOS itself is a decade old. And its time that its lack of powerful, professional software be a thing of the past too. If Cook & Crew want iOS to be its future, it's going to have to make it worth software co's while to write full, capable versions of their software for it. That means, commission Adobe, Autodesk, Dassault Systems, Quicken etc, to build full versions of their industry-dominating software for ARM & iOS & touch UI's, from the ground up. No major company will take on the risk of doing it otherwise. Most found it wasn't even worth their time to write full versions for the tiny user base of OS X. If apple wants the iPad to be the device of the future, they've got to get behind the software needed to make it that, and push. Hard.

Backlight and a bloody home button already. Is that too much to ask?
I can understand the backlight request (not an issue for me though) Is Command+H too much effort to get home?

I'd buy it with a trackpad. Besides that it would need a serious price slash in its current form. Or even better, they could introduce the "Smart Keyboard Pro":D
Trackpad would be a welcomed addition but I suspect that some serious designing would need to go into that type of ASK due to the fact that the iPad doesn't have a built in kickstand. The ASK can be unwieldy as it is (when fully unfolded). I can't imagine what it would look like if another panel was added to it to support a trackpad.

What about a 7.9" "Pro" with a high contrast display?

WTF is wrong with this company?

Again. I'd rather wait for the product to be finished and well-made than rush out an explosive new device.

That's not why they're waiting. The problem is that sales of current iPads haven't dropped low enough to warrant introduction of new models. This is an accounting decision, not an engineering decision. None of the top Apple execs cares a whit about making the best tablets, they just want to sell the most profitable tablets. It works great short term, but long term it's a path to a ruined reputation.

One isn't exclusive of the other.

i can not imagine that somebody would buy an ipad at the end of its production line. Some people said they find ipads boring. Strangely me too. Iphone is also boring with such a mini steps. I also believe OS OSX is lacking better features.

Anyone here still getting excited about an updated iPad?
Yep.

I use my iPad daily, I'll take any improvements to the line they can come up with even if they're "boring" like CPU/GPU / thinness / battery life (would love the slightly larger screen in the same form factor though). Oh, and a second lightning port :)

Haha, I know!
When it gets closer, I'll likely forego owning an iPad for a month or so, just to sell my Pro just a bit before the new one drops.... timing is everything for peak resale value! With a bit of luck, it won't cost more than another $150 or so to cop the new one, including those profits.

I think they call that masterbation...

You should learn to spell the word for an activity practiced by humans with such great regularity.

Yeah, I've already done the ebay photo shoot for my Mini 4. As soon as we have solid intelligence on a Mini "Pro" I'll know the auction date!

A guess would be that the edge to edge without home button, would launch after it's being introduced in their iPhone 8, so the iPhone will take the glory, since it's their bestseller.

If they launch it first in the iPad product line, it would be old business when it comes to iPhone.
LTE did launch with the iPad though.
