should be interesting to see how their release schedule changes after moving into the spaceship. imagine a lot of people's time will be spent on the transition and maybe already has been which is why updates have been mostly underwhelming.

Yeah, I've already done the ebay photo shoot for my Mini 4. As soon as we have solid intelligence on a Mini "Pro" I'll know the auction date!

Ah! Like minded Apple kit fans. =)
My fam have asked how I afford to get EVERY new iDevice. I dunno how many times I've explained that w/ the remarkable resale value, it actually only cost me a lump sum about seven years ago, & now about $100/year keeps me it the latest gear... seems like a no-brainer!

Oh bloody hell, please please please just whack 2017 grade specs inside the current 9.7 inch Pro and release it so I can upgrade my iPad 2!
Or you could just get any one of the new iPads now and it will be still be light years ahead. Clearly you aren't concerned with speed/the latest and greatest. Why not get an Air 2 or 9.7 pro that will last you another 6 years?

Anyone here still getting excited about an updated iPad?
Yep! Me and millions of other people.

I'll let you in on a secret; there is a world beyond your eyebrows.

We still need faster processors and software to take advantage of it, pencil support across all apps, so much still needed and any little improvement is totally welcome by me and millions of others .

Easy - 4GB of ram + the A10X - literally all I require on top of what the 9.7 pro offers. Wasn't going to pay the price hike to get 2GB of ram for an iPad I plan on keeping for a very long time. Also, had decided anyway to keep my iPad 2 at least till it lost software support, and it still had software support when the Pro 9.7 came out.
Its 4X the amount of RAM in the iPad 2 you're using. You obviously aren't pushing iPads to their limits. The logic just isn't there.

Haha, I know!
When it gets closer, I'll likely forego owning an iPad for a month or so, just to sell my Pro just a bit before the new one drops.... timing is everything for peak resale value! With a bit of luck, it won't cost more than another $150 or so to cop the new one, including those profits.
Timing is everything for peak resale value? That was true in the past but not anymore.

Resale values for iPads have sunk. That is mostly due to the regular sales going on for iPads. You would be quite lucky (I'd say it is impossible) to find a buyer for your current iPad for a price that is within $150 of a comparable next generation model.

With some of the "radical" design decisions that Apple has made recently, it is pretty risky to sell the "bird in hand" before you have the "two in the bush". For example: If the headphone jack is important to you, why would you sell the iPad you currently have that has a headphone jack only to later discover that the new iPad doesn't have one? (again, that's just an example)

My wife uses a mini 2 daily and I'd love to upgrade her to a new model, but I am in no way willing to pay for a super outdated mini 4, which was barely an upgrade from the mini 3 as it was. My wife has no interest in a 9.7"+ iPad, since it won't fit in her purse.

Me on the other hand, I'd love a new iPad, but for the love of god get rid of the chamfered edges, it isn't 2012 anymore. It's so boring to look at.

Stop phoning in the design work Apple, you haven't bothered to *really* DESIGN something in years. Just keep recycling the same old crap.

Also add me to the list of people tired of everything being released in the fall.

Most design cycles go in 3-5 year phases. Same goes for cars too. They don't redesign every car each year.

I think if the rumoured updates are true, then Apple will probably announce the new iPad's alongside the new iPhone's in September. Also aren't Apple suppose to be moving into their new spaceship campus this year? maybe this will be the first event they hold there.

Nobody will miss them. More capable computing products out at the price range. Would need to be insane to pay 800 dollars for in ipad pro this day and age

iPad Pro 9.7" is still THE iPad.
Latest/greatest. A quick Google of "best price iPad Pro" turned up TigerDirect selling it new at a whopping $30 off full (Apple) retail. I'd wager literally anything that I could get $550 out of my lightly used $700 model w/ ease. I have the original box, etc.

Well that is excellent for you... especially when one only needs to wait a few weeks before then next $150 off sale on the 9.7 Pro comes around.

I would miss them (if they were to be stopped altogether) the iPad is the best tablet on the market (in my opinion).

I would be surprised if the position the 10.5" as the flagship model over the 12.9. And especially if they make the 10.5 faster with more features than the 12.9

I can understand the backlight request (not an issue for me though) Is Command+H too much effort to get home?

Oh, JHC on a pogo stick. Thank you for this. I've been using a Logitech keyboard forever and it has a home key, and the fact that the Apple keyboard didn't has bugged me forever. Believe it or not, I never considered a shortcut. While this wasn't THE reason I didn't get a keyboard, it was a big part. Don't I feel like a dork. In my defense, I did ask the salesperson about this and they simply referred me to the home button on the iPad--they should have this shortcut key in their bag of tricks when making a sale to fools like me.

Agreed!
I'm not questioning that sometimes it seems insane what people will pay. I used my Apple Pencil for 6 weeks, then listed it on eBay... including shipping, it sold for $103. Ummm, what?? Lol. It was $100 BEFORE I opened it & used it.
People are weird. I'm not saying you or I would pay close to retail for a used item that goes on sale often- but I promise you- the market is there.

Most design cycles go in 3-5 year phases. Same goes for cars too. They don't redesign every car each year.

Apple handheld device design cycles are not and never have been - until very recently - in the 3+ year range.

Also, cars are typically 6-8 years between body styles with a mild facelift in the middle. In any regards, a basic unibody consumer electronic device isn't a car or anything nearly as complex, so not sure why you would compare it to one.

Apple's designs are getting stale across the board.

Who needs a new ipad anyway? they're basically perfect. My iPad pro plays offline Netflix for 20 hours and is blazing fast.

What we need is an updated iOS with user accounts. please! user accounts! What windows 95 had!

Don't know what she looks like, but who wouldn't?

Talking about the iPads, I think when they came out there wasn't really any competition.

Since Apple started selling larger phones, the iPad novelty has worn off.
My 6S plus is almost as easy to use as my 2nd gen iPad and lighter, plus I have it with me anyway.

Using my iPad mostly as an alarm clock, read a few newspapers and play a few games before gong to sleep. As others posted n need to upgrade.

For everything else MBP and that at 15.4" is small enough to even watch movies in bed, especially when a new model is not available:)

I have bashed Apple recently myself, but it sounds like the problems are concerned with quality and production and there has been news saying that the company making the screens were having problems, so this isn't the out of the blue, why isn't it available situation that the AirPods turned into, where a vague but soon release time came and went and there still wasn't any AirPods.

Production problems happen, they haven't promised any features yet, as long as they find and fix whatever the problem is I'm not going to go ballistic over this news.

Can it run Final Cut Pro, or Logic Pro? Does it have finder? Or is it still just a bigger iPhone?

LOL Don't feel so bad. There are some key combos that I'm still discovering... nearly 1 year later. :D

I've learned that pressing and holding down the command key within an app will display a pop-up menu showing all of the available hot-key combinations for that app.

When I'm on my 12.9 iPad Pro, I'm usually in split-window, but when I'm working with a single app, I find Cmd+Tab to switch between apps far more convenient than swiping on the screen.

The only downside to learning and knowing these hotkeys is getting frustrated that more of them aren't available. I'd like some "universal" hotkeys to allow media playback control regardless of what app I'm in. One of the many little tweaks that the Apple-of-old would've included on day-1.

One of Cook's biggest mistakes was to move the annual iPad update from April to Oct/Nov which directly led to a significant fall in iPad sales. Having seemingly moved back to the April updates I hope they don't change it again.

This is disappointing for me individually. I have a 3rd-gen iPad from 2012 which worked just great up until iOS 10. It's pretty dang slow now, frustratingly so. Instead of purchasing a device that had been out for six months, I figured I'd wait it out for another six and pick up a new one that I assumed would be introduced this March. I guess I'll wait until March just to be sure and if no new iPads are released then I'll evaluate whether I want to go ahead and upgrade or wait some more. -shrug-
