New renders today provide the best look yet relocated Apple logo and redesigned MagSafe magnet array of the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max.

Several of the design changes coming to the iPhone 17 Pro model have been rumored for some time, such as the elongated camera bump that spans the full width of the device, with the LiDAR Scanner and flash moving to the right side.

The device is also expected to move to an aluminum frame that encompasses the new camera bump design, similar to the iPad Pro. To enable wireless charging, there will be a cutout in the aluminum frame below the camera bump for a glass segment.

Most recently, it emerged that the Apple logo will likely be repositioned to the center of this glass segment. The repositioning means the Apple logo will now appear lower than before when viewed relative to the full height of the device.

This has a subsequent impact on the appearance of MagSafe accessories, since the magnetic ring on clear cases would obscure the Apple logo. To resolve this, Apple will apparently change the distinctive MagSafe magnet array to add a break in the circle to allow the Apple logo to show through.

The latest render from the leaker known as "Majin Bu" depicts both the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max in clear cases, showing how Apple apparently proposes to change the MagSafe magnet array to allow the relocated Apple to be clearly shown in its new, lower position, centered to the glass cutout.

The iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max is expected to launch in the fall, with upgrades including a 48-megapixel telephoto camera, 24-megapixel front-facing camera, and the A19 Pro chip.

So APPLE decided to move the APPLE logo just so it can be seen from the stupid mag safe ???? Think about the people that put other cases or in my case…. No case !!! Absolutely STUPID decision !!!

Maybe, maybe not, but they could keep it centered inside the MagSafe ring at least. This would retain the entire circle of magnets, which is important for MagSafe battery packs and MagSafe phone grips.
Except for people using clear cases, no one will see that the logo is not aligned with the ring. However, everyone would see that the logo is not aligned with the glass area.

This has got be the ugliest iPhone ever
The iPhone 6 - 8 series has got to be displaced at some point. Design is clearly not a strong suit at Apple anymore. How it looks in harmony with how it works has been out the window for quite some time. Liquid Glass flaws a clear example of it. Apple is an impressive spreadsheet, their products are an afterthought to serve it. We just have to accept it, move on and make choices based on what serves us best.

Don’t like it wouldn’t be hard to centre the apple logo in the circle surely. First iPhone where there’s actually reasons to avoid it.

The design of modern iPhones is too busy already, this just takes it to another level. It looks ugly with or without the case, it’s giving me some weird Nokia of the early 2000s vibes with big fat phones and massive cameras. God I miss the simpler times and iPhone designs of 2007-2012.

Anyhow, this year’s iPhone is going to be a really small upgrade so I really don’t see why anyone who owns as old of a model as 12 (except professionals who need the new cameras) should buy this year’s iPhones. Other than the weird ugly camera, it still appears to be the good old iPhone 12 with some tweaks. I was doing something for my MIL on her 12 and I was surprised how good this phone still is, a lot lighter and thinner than my 14 Pro. Except for the notch, I really didn’t see any reason why she should buy 15 or 16. Cameras did get better, but the 12 already has a good camera and let’s be real, just how much of a camera do you really need for your everyday usage.

If this was still the same Apple that released iPhones in 2007-2011, not only would the iPhone no longer have any sort of a notch or island, but it would probably have the dynamic island across the board in 2022 already and the “Air” would be the new standard iPhone design. I love that they’re making such a thin phone, hate the camera bump though, I’m tired of the dynamic island and notches an can’t believe all iPhones didn’t have 120hz across the range already two years ago. Apple is asking a lot of money for their phones but don’t really offer that much value, the iPhone 15 is too expensive to not have 120hz display and the 17 has no business having a dynamic island or notch or being more or less the same as previous 4 generations.

I think iPhone is stale at this point. Really boring, more expensive, depressing state of the iPhone lineup. Cook is doing a good job and milking the cow, but Apple just can’t make a good iPhone anymore. They sell great computers, but the iPhone is in a very sad state.

I prefer function over design, but when you create something so badly thought through, even the logo is placed poorly, you have to wonder have they dropped the ball with the function too

How would you have them look then?
Firstly, I'm not a designer, but even if I were, I said they don't look great, not that I'd change them. They work, that's the important part. For people who don't want to see them, the solution already exists — just get a non-transparent case.

Not everything that's ugly is broken.

Overall don't mind the design. But for the MagSafe ring alignment could have been better. But it is not in the hands of the case makers as the internal magnetic array remains in the same position as before. Only the exterior Apple logo optioning has changed.

Unless Apple moves the magnets inside, this design will continue. Maybe Apple will change it up a bit for the 20th anniversary model.

You can really tell that Jony Ive isn't working for Apple anymore. Sure he also had questionable design choices, but his designs were always sleek and good looking. This iPhone 17 is turning out to be the ugliest thing I've ever seen, and that is a new low for Apple.

The yearly round of "it looks ugly" comments based on dodgy renders. I remember this at least going back to the iPhone 11 (Pro), which ended up looking okay.

My white iPhone 11 (non-Pro) looks great! I'll probably be upgrading this year though, as there's now enough new stuff between the 11 and the 17 to makle the upgrade worthwhile for me.

Also, as I've been using it caseless (because, as I said, I think the white 11 looks really good) it has a cracked screen which is noticeable in bright light and is starting to annoy me 😁

It's better than the rounded 6-8 design. Flat sides are just better — better for grip, bezels can be smaller, the phone can stand on its side to take photos. Why go back to round sides?

I do love the iPhone 5 design with flat edges, that's for sure. People love it, that's why Apple went back to it. I do agree with you that the rounded 6-8 design wasn't the best and I would prefer flat edges over that, but if I had to choose something "new" and fresh, I would love for Apple to look back at the iPod Touch design. Holding that thing felt so incredibly nice, and in my opinion the most beautiful handheld Apple design ever. It was rounded, but still sharp and very thin. I know Apple can't cramp all the unnecessary junk into such design these days, but I really miss the nice designs Apple used to have.
