Awesome! For the first time I am starting to get excited. Wasn't sure if I would get one as my iPhone 3G + iPad 1 meets my needs. This though looks the goods.

I'll reserve judgment until I see the final phone design in person and in official press images, but my initial impression is one of disgust. The mute switch on the opposite side of the phone seems highly stupid. I am hoping this is an iPod touch case (dual mics for better FaceTime, flash for better photography).

Also - I was so happy with the iPhone 4 dimensions - why would they go and make it taller and wider!?

Here's what sucks, I will hate it if they increase the dimensions. However, I have too damn much money invested in docking stations, apps, etc to just jump to another product. Grrrrrrr

I REALLY hope they don't increase the form factor this much.

I hope the new iPhone has a similar back to the iPad 2

From a business profit perspective it makes sense for Apple to use an iPhone material that more easily scratches.

You can charge for back plate replacements ($29) and the fact that people who would have bought a used iPhone (if it was scratch free) will now buy a brand new one from Apple since the used ones will be more likely to be scratched.

I love the box design, it looks extremely professional, very sturdy design and just oozes gorgeous. The rounded backs have always seemed more 'playful,' 'toy-esque' to me, I'd get used to using it I guess, but I would much rather prefer a continuation of the iPhone 4 design.

I would like to know why exactly the 4 design fell out of favour with some of the executives.

aaaaaaahhhh I want/need this nao!! If this is the real deal but the case though...I have a feeling that tearing could happen right in between the mute switch/camera area though

I hope this is true!

I think the iPhone 4 is easily the bets looking iPhone and possibly the best looking phone ever made, HOWEVER practicailty also has to be taken into consideration and all factors considered the 3gs was a more practical design than the iphone 4, so that might be the reason.

Some time ago, apple bought the rights for liquid metal. I'm wondering when that will show up in their products. It's the material the old Vertu ascent was made from and if done right, it would make one of the strongest cases we've ever seen on a smartphone or any phone for that matter. It would just be the problem of reception all over again.
But perhaps they could do the same with it the apple logo as they have done on the iPad, where the wifi is behind the apple logo.

If the 5 is THAT much bigger/wider then the iPhone 4 is looking very appealing right now. It is a handheld/pocket device, after all.

Antennagate? Easily shatterable glass backs?

Burning stacks of cash to resolve these issues is a large issue for executives and board members.
This isn't a post to prove any points, just a story. ;)

A couple of weeks ago I went for a ride. While at the gas station I pulled out my iPhone 4 and fumbled it. I tried to grab it but only succeeded in swatting it into the pavement. I picked it up with visions on shattered glass only to find an intact phone. *phew*

I think everybody else is just dropping their phones wrong. :D

So where is the volume control going to be?

Haven't apple just enabled photos to be taken via the volume control button? Why bother with that feature if the iPhone 5 isn't going to have a volume control.

This surely has to be an iPod touch case.

If this is correct, I assume Apple have increase the screen size by 0.2", to 3.7"; therefore, maintaining 300+ ppi - which SJ marketed brilliantly at WWDC, saying it's a 'magical number.' Apple, I think, may have kept the bezel the same size as now, so you have something to rest one - that's why it's bigger; as you can fit a 3.7" screen in the current iPhone case, just with a smaller bezel.

If it looks like that mockup I will pay the fee to change my iPhone 4 before end of contract and have one of those!

As long as I can have a "Me Gusta" wallpaper on it :D

The antenna problem was overblown, and I dunno what the rates are for the shattering of glass backs, but I assume it's higher (although ... Apple's would have known this when they designed it), but no one I know (out of 30+ friends with iPhone 4's) has had either of these problems.

All I really want is the same form factor, with 64GB and the A5. I really don't think the phone needs to be made any thinner. Regardless of the design, (curved back etc) I think it's a bit ridiculous to make it thinner, it's already thin enough, just take whatever space they've made with streamlining other bits and just make the battery bigger.
