The iPhone 4's screen is very small. 4"-4.3" screens on android phones are the big sellers.

As mentioned, the iPhone 4's screen is small. Also, the phone itself is tiny.

Even though I am not a big fan of a thin phone, if the screen is increased, I'm upgrading.

So you don't think the reason the iPhone sells so well is because it DOES have a small screen and smaller form factor then?

If you use size comparison then that case is even bigger then the Galaxy S 2 and that's a BIG phone with 4.3" screen:

Like I said, 4" max and that's at a push. This new iPhone could potentially be a massive slab!

Actually if Apple make the phone this big and only fit a 4" screen then it actually makes them less capable then everyone else.

Oh well I just hope for the faster cheaper iPhone 4 rumours.. I hope it gets the better camera too.

If a 4" screen fits with the same bezel then I wonder if they could fit in a 4.3" screen with the edge to edge rumours. That would mean a 50% larger screen than any existing iPhones.

It wouldn't be very "retina" if they stick to the same resolution, but I certainly wouldn't mind. 4.3" may seem too big on some phones but with an edgeless display it would be perfect IMHO.

From a business profit perspective it makes sense for Apple to use an iPhone material that more easily scratches.

You can charge for back plate replacements ($29) and the fact that people who would have bought a used iPhone (if it was scratch free) will now buy a brand new one from Apple since the used ones will be more likely to be scratched.

Apple won't make a product that can be taken apart like that. So Apple selling "replacement parts" makes no sense.

We are approaching the T-1 month of the iPhone 5 launch, let the juicy rumors begin!

I just hope no one show us the iPhone 5 before SJobs in the keynote ...

My calculations give 3.85" as the perfect screen for a nice size increase and marketing purposes.

A 3.85" screen (same resolution obv) is exactly 300 dpi. 3.85 is a nice size bump, but keeps phone reasonably trim.

If I were bumping up the size, that is what I would do.

I've had the back of my iPhone 4 replaced ($29 at genius bar) so yes it def makes sense for Apple to have replacement parts for sale...

Can somebody compile a list of reasons why this IS NOT the new iPod touch? I was thinking that the latest Touch was released too recently to be refreshed but I just checked Wikipedia and it was released Sept. 8, 2010.

So, as the image definitely appears very skinny (and I do realize that the image of the concept iphone is just a concept and the real one might be thicker IF it is any different than the iPhone 4), it definitely seems feasible that it's a new touch with a mute button and the headphone jack on the top.

People keep saying it's NOT the new Touch because it's thicker. THat is a VERY thin device. Only marginally thicker than the Touch. That doesn't prove anything to me.

Again, for the people who have good explanations for why this ISN'T the new Touch, please construct a list. I don't disagree, I just wanna know both sides.

As a Samsung Galaxy S owner I am VERY happy Apple is finally going with a larger screen. I think 4" is perfect. My Fascinates 4" screen is just right. EVO's 4.3" is too big IMO and iPhones 3.5" is just too small.

Galaxy S user here too. iPhone 4" != Android 4" due to the ratio aspect difference. (In fact often two Android phones have different sizes too) If you put your Fascinate next to an iPhone you'll see iPhone's 3.5" screen is just about as wide as the Fascinate's display.

Here's the iPhone's 3.5" vs. Nexus One's 3.7". You will see the iPhone's display is actually wider.

If they keep the resolution the same for compatibility reason it'd be a bit sad but 4" is perfect, I hope it's not bigger.

Also what if they moved the silent switch to the other side so they could add a dedicated camera button when it was before?

If it's that thin, Im guessing the battery life will be the same or worse. I don't want all this thinner & lighter crap.

The iPhone 4 was plenty thin enough, just stick a better battery in instead of this thinner and lighter stuff.

Too thin and light and it'll feel cheap, no matter what it's made of.

How is going 0.8" up a 50% increase?

Im right there with you lol. But im pretty sure theres no way Apple will bring out an upgraded product with worse battery life.

There are several reasons given in this thread. So please, compile away.

I don't wanna go through and read all that nonsense. I wanna know GOOD reasons. The only reasons I've read at this point are that it's got a headphone jack on the top, a mute switch, and it's too thick.

None of those things prove anything. I wanna know if anybody has a good reason why this isn't the Touch.
