Ain't going to happen unless Steve Jobs rises from the dead. Cook is repeating all the mistakes that Apple made in the 90s and undoing all the changes that Jobs made.
God damn i cant believe I'm agreeing with this, but I'm really leaning towards this opinion the longer time goes on and the more anemic the updates get

What the heck is Apple doing? This shouldn't even be an iPhone 7. At best a 6ss. No new body. Same led screen. Just one more Gb of ram. No wireless charging. It's an insult to us. Samsung is taking over. People are switching because the iPhone is lagging behind in all aspects. Loyalty has its limits.
I'm calling it right now. It will be called the iPhone 6 SE and the iPhone 6 Pro lol!

On many fronts, iPhone boredom has set in. The usual buzz about the upcoming iPhone has been replaced with the grinding scraping noise of a well oiled machine gone dry.

This verbose attempt to make it sound like iPhone 7 will be worth buying seems like a last gasp to justify Apple's determination to recycle the same old, tired, boring design one more time.

The good news is that Apple's army of devotees are standing at the ready to justify, defend and advocate any move Apple makes. With billions to lean on and faithful devotees, Apple's still holding a hot hand.

I'm going to laugh so hard when the new iPhone comes out and it doesn't look anything like all these "leaks".

Why do you people think anyone really knows what Apple is going to release? We haven't seen any solid proof yet.
If it walks like a duck, talks like a duck, looks like a duck... You get the old analogy. Plenty of info coming out now that basically sums up that these rumors are all substantiated. Unless Apple pulls an audible at the 11th hour, this is your 2016 iPhone lineup.

ah the haters have arrived, living up to the MR brand...

if you're "done with Apple" because the phone doesn't look new enough, or because the bigger plus can handle bigger components, then you were never in to begin with.

you'll get no better love with Samsung.
No Samsung fan but just better specs for the money and a new design, too. Not bad, right?

Well my upgrade's due in September... Fortunately that's when the HTC 10 Mini is due, I don't fancy replacing my "6" with a "6SS" and don't like that Apple are giving all the new features to the size I'll never buy. Ah well, it's been a nice trip for the last 8 years or so.

I'm getting an HTC 10.
I'll check back with Apple in late 2017; perhaps their designers will have finished their nap by then.
These days the iPhone is about as exciting as granny panties.

I WISH the iPhone 7 would look like this - actual black frame with black glass back ala 4/4S which IMO looks way better than space grey
I hope it does.

Yes make it look similar - dimensions and curves - but making it too similar so as not be distinguishable easily would be a risk, Apple is also a fashion brand for some people.

Plus. iPhone 4 was my favourite design. iPhone 4/6 crossover...droooool

So Apple wanted to give people more choice with introduction of the 4" SE model and now seems to take choice somewhat away by including all the new and fun features (the ones that get people exited) with the 5,5" version only. I do quite like my iPhone 6 4,7" but I definitely wouldn't go bigger. The 4,7" version of the iPhone 7 - or 6SS as it seems - so fa does not have me exited - which could be a problem for Apple when people all of the sudden rationalize their smartphone purchase. The one thing that we know for sure is that it's going to be very expensive again.

why is everyone so obsessed with the looks?

The speed difference of the Processor and Touch ID ALONE were enough for me to upgrade from the 6 to the 6s.

Your reasonable and mature analysis doesn't fit in with the usual pouting, foot-stomping and entitlement on display in this thread. Basically Apple sucks for not asking for design inputs from the usual Macrumors complainers.

How cool would it be if the smart connector was actually used for quick charging like Samsung. No wires necessary and you just lay down. No need to use a charging cable that will fray over time.

The 6s hasn't. How will more of the same do that?

50mm units sold last quarter = you don't know what you're talking about.

can't they get ride of that home botton already. thing is a eye sore

What a brilliant idea...maybe you're on to something. A company with an iconic design feature should get rid of it to please a couple of people. BMW should also get rid of their kidney grill, and Burberry should stop designing plaid.

I would be all over that if the screen wasn't so small.

The SE is upgraded internals into an old form factor at a super cheap price. I'll be pretty content with this upcoming iPhone that looks just like the iPhone 6 if it only costs $399, but they're a bunch of nozzles if they make their new flagship device in the same body as the iPhone 6 and still charge us ~$800.

Yea, I hear you. It did take some getting used to, for sure, but not much (for myself. I usually type one-handed anyways, which is where that screen size shines). I will say, though, that the SE is damn fast!

what if; beyond the usual spec increases and battery improvements there's 2 entire teirs of iPhone.
As I imagine it;

iPhone 7, iPhone 7+
  • Single camera
  • 2gb ram
  • 128 gb max memory
iPhone Pro
  • Dual cameras
  • 3gb ram
  • 256 gb max memory
  • True tone display
  • Smart connector
Everyone wins, except the sku count.

Well we know the outside is a still an old fashioned honking bezel-topia. What we need to hear now is good news about what's inside. What iOS 10 has to offer to offset the terrible industrial design.

So when is Jony I've coming back from vacation?

If iphone 7 is just going to be a refreshed version of iphone 6s than I'm probably going to go with a galaxy s7 edge or note 6 for this year. I always upgrades phone in the fall time.

I was looking forward to getting a iphone 7 but I feel like it's going to be a bust.

I would have gone with the Note 5 myself but there is no way I'm going back to Android any time soon.
Let's just hope Apple doesn't blow iOS the same way as it's industrial design.

Less than four months before Apple is expected to announce the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, which may have a "Pro" moniker instead, purported new blueprints of the smartphones have been shared by uSwitch on behalf of noted leaker Steve Hemmerstoffer, who runs the Twitter account OnLeaks.

The drawings, purportedly sourced directly from Taiwan-based Apple casing subcontractor Catcher Technology, seemingly confirm that Apple plans to remove the 3.5mm headphone jack on both the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. Both smartphones will also retain protruding cameras, but without the metal ring around the lenses.

Meanwhile, the drawings show that Apple plans to add a dual-lens camera system and Smart Connector exclusively to the 5.5-inch iPhone 7 Plus, much to the chagrin of some customers that are hopeful Apple will not differentiate features beyond screen size. The 4.7-inch iPhone 7 will supposedly retain a single-lens camera.

The report also corroborates rumors claiming Apple will reposition the rear antenna bands along the top and bottom of its next iPhones, but the drawings also stifle stereo speaker rumors with only a single speaker grille shown on both the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. Each smartphone retains a Lightning port and bottom microphone.

Both the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus look similar to the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s series, suggesting that Apple will retain the same overall smartphone design beyond minor tweaks for three consecutive years. The report confirms the new iPhones will have identical dimensions as the current 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch models.

Recent rumors have been conflicting about which features Apple will reserve for the iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, or OLED-based iPhone expected in 2017, but these drawings are mostly in line with expectations. The images were reportedly taken from Apple's January testing stage, however, so changes could arise.

Update: uSwitch and OnLeaks have teamed up to share a new 3D video that offers a closer look at the blueprints.

[doublepost=1463082346][/doublepost]Obviously there is bigger change then meets the eye , 5.5 iPhone 7
= removal of 3.5 jack , smart charging on smart connector for obvious reasons. if your plugged in (headphones, microphones) via lighting you need to charge correct ? Well that's where smart charging or whatever they decide to call it comes in , why only the 5.5 though well because it need to have a feature better then size so why not remove the 3.5 in the 5.5 and leave in the rest of the line up , there always a transition between devices one will always have somethimg the other doesn't ! Another question to ask is why isn't apple offering smart connector charging options for the iPad pro line my theory is because it would ruin future released ideas of the next line up ! Obviously when the cats out the bag the options will already seem like it's been there the whole time ,

$10 Billion in R&D and this is what we get for a flagship product.

You know that $10 Billion wasn't just spent on a phone right ? What about the cost of R&D into the car, iPad, iMac, MacBooks, Macbook Airs, the A series processors, screens and panels for devices, Apple Watch, Apple TV, iCloud data storage centres and god knows what else Apple is up to...

The phone makes up the vast majority of Apple income now so it's safe to assume it's high priority. iMacs, Macbooks, Macbook Airs? Come on, put in last year's top components now the price has come down and they're done for another year.

Sorry, no 3.5mm audio jack is a deal breaker. Apple is the go-to for audio engineering PC's. They have their own DAW and there are more VSTs and other plugins for Macs than Windows. Why would high end headphone companies make headphones with a proprietary interface and how can the DAC in a dongle match what's on the handsets now. BT audio is okay, but can't compare to wired and has a lag that is noticeable. There are so many other things the 3.5mm jack is used for than just headphones. Look how long other legacy audio interfaces have hung on because of the breadth of their use. I've been a loyal apple customer for years, but I won't want to buy a phone with out this jack, so my 128G 6S+ may be my last iphone... Eventually the jack may go away, but it's quite a few years from now...

But isn't that all they do to the iPhone these days ? I was just pointing out that the $10 billion hasn't just been spent on moving some antenna bands and different camera bump as the original quote implied...
