Everyone laughs at that iPhone shuffle thing, but I can easily see that happening. Basically just about the size of a bluetooth headset, with voice control, manage your contacts with your computer. You could have multiple buttons and even integrate it with headphones for music. I can definitely see it happening in the not so far future. It'll be right before they put them in our brains :)

i think GPS in the iPhone is really silly and redundant..

I currently have a TomTom GPS device. I love the thing but would gladly replace it with my GPS iPhone. There are several reasons:

1. I won't have to hide or carry around the TomTom when I get out of my car (I've already had one stolen and my car window broken). This little routine is very annoying. With the iPhone I will naturally have it with me all the time and will naturally carry it out of the car with me.

2. Location based applications. Sure the iPhone v1.0 has a cell phone based location system, but that is not accurate and you have to push the button and wait a while for a fix on your general location. With a GPS chip you will always have pin-point accurate information about where you are. This in turn will allow you to be prompted with products and services that are in the area. You will also be able to buy these things before you walk into the shop. You could be walking in the vicinity of a movie theater, see a listing of movies and times and then buy your ticket, all before you walk in the front door. (The ticket-taker will barcode scan your touch display to take your ticket)

3. GeoCoding. You will be able to stamp your location in metadata hidden inside your photos and videos. In time as more and more people take photos a collage of pictures will be stitched together to form a virtual 3D model of populate areas that you can "fly" through and explore (This is call photosynth) .

4. Ten Thousand other very clever ideas that 500,000 SDK developers can invent.

I don't think it's wrong to expect faster, smaller and longer battery life. Phones are big business and advances are happening rapidly. I'm sure that all the vendors are succumbing to Apple's demands for the impossible, simply because everyone wants a piece of the iPhone pie.

I don't think most could argue with that. I expect the 3G to be a vast improvement over Edge. I expect the space to be bigger (of course). I also expect better battery life and the nice App Store

I don't expect or care about GPS

i agree. GPS is so solidified in everyone's minds that its important to have on their phones. its almost as arbitrary as expecting to have an 8 megapixel camera on the iPhone.

we have to remember that even though blackberry and the nokia n95 have GPS - doesn't mean everyone is buying them for that purpose. if that were the case, than everyone would have an N95 mounted on their dashboard. Garmin and Tom-Tom units are flying off the shelves so obviously people know the difference between GPS on a phone and dedicated GPS navigators. it's almost become a buzzword of things that 'should be on' phones.

Nokia is going large into GPS. I'd imagine a fair few people would say incorporating GPS is skating to where the puck is going to be. Remember that total sales of N95> iPhone last quarter afaik.
