Having video and a 1 megapixel up from 2 is not a big deal. fail.

Double the capacity. Double the hardware speed. Faster 3G. Compass. Video. 50% more pixels. Autofocus. Nike+.

Pay attention or don't waste our time with uninformed posts.

The new Apple product will sell even though it's lame as hell?

If by "lame as hell" you mean "they took the most talked-about smartphone on the market and improved its performance in just about every way" then I agree with you, how incredibly lame.

Now could you stop trolling our boards and go back to your Palm forums? I thought we'd have seen the last of you with the Pre release and inevitable letdown (turns out it has flaws like every other phone out there... who coulda seen that one coming ) - sorry to see I was wrong.

i guarantee you the faster speed is not even noticable to the average person!

You're so incredibly wrong about that. Appications will open faster. Web pages will load faster. Games will play more smoothly. Downloads will be quicker. The entire user experience will be more pleasant.

and the prices are the same so if you wanted one now you could have just gotten one before!

Yes, you could've gotten one with half the capacity, half the processing power, no video, a weaker camera with no autofocus, no nike+, no compass, and slower 3G. Exactly the same thing. Clearly.

You people who think this upgrade was not significant just don't get it. The iphone is a mobile computing platform and it just got twice the capacity and hardware performance. Those two things alone are more significant than last year's update. As apps start to take up 500 mb, even upwards of a gig, that 8 GB phone is going to look pretty small (I've filled mine).

And just wait until developers start writing apps that need the faster processor and greater RAM of the new model to even run. 3G users are going to be left behind a lot faster than you'd think.

I have an original iPhone and didn't upgrade to the (minimally) upgraded 3G. I don't see anything to get me to buy this one either.

My reasoning exactly. I am going to purchase extended warranty, and probably drop EDGE if it gets noticeably slower, but definitely sitting this one out as well.

The contracts may be expiring for those who bought the first gen, but remember, not many bought the first gen. The big upgrade will be next year when the iPhone 3G owners contracts expire.

That's all they had on hand to sell. They were just trying to get some publicity before the new iPhone came out.

I hope the Pre does well even though I'm buying the new iPhone. I wish them the best.

Palm purposely did this to create a perceived demand on the product. They knew that selling the Pre after the WWDC would have been akin to shooting yourself in the head with a .45

The Wall street talking heads on CNBC went on to say that Verizon would probably buy Palm when the Sprint contract ran out and then go head to head with AT&T and the iPhone.

Sounds like a hell of a competion to me. It will be great for cell phone customers. This will result in better products, better service, and at a lower cost for all smart phone users.

Bring it on!

And it failed woefully!

You guys will never ever be happy no matter what Apple does.

Are you kidding me? Have you read some of the replies in this thread? There's people giving perfectly fine reasons why it sucks, and there's people saying "LOL LIEK APPEL IZ AWSUM EHT IZ A GR8 IDEYA!"

Seems like most are people that are happy no matter what Apple does.

Remember the $99 dollar 8GB 3G is still going to be around when 3.0 comes out. Palm Pre doesn't have much of an advantage now and tomorrow. With 3.0, SDK for dock connector apps coming, 45k apps... iTunes... Movies, Music... near perfect form factor.... :D

Exactly, we'll see how many people will be willing to switch to the Pre for 3rd party multitasking which is all they hold over the iphone now that the 8 gb is 99 dollars.

Also what was left out well probably took too much time, the new screen has a fingerprint resistant coating.

"The display also features an oil-resistant coating that keeps the iPhone screen clean."

Another bonus feature, Apple will have my 300 dollars on the 19th. :D
