Apple owners are some of the biggest whiners I have ever seen.
They bitch about iPhones being sold at Wal-Mart, they bitch about the rumor of Macs being sold at Wal-Mart when it doesn't concern them, they bitch about new notebooks.

No wonder Apple users get looked upon as snotty stuck up idiots. Half of them are and they ended up on this site.

LOL

LOL so true!

Good news for potential customers and upgrading customers, but I don't see myself upgrading to the 3GS as the 3G serves my needs.

I'm actually more excited about the June 17th release date of 3.0!!

I don't understand why people want a 5MP camera with a sensor this small. The amount of grain in the images is unbearable and the amount of image processing required to reduce this makes the images terrible.

It reminds me of the former megapixel wars with standard cameras. If you don't want a DSLR what do you get these days? A small camera with lots of megapixels, a small sensor and worse pictures than cameras produced years ago with half the megapixels.

I don't understand why people expect to be able to take masterpiece photos with a phone. Not just the iPhone; any phone. A phone camera (or video camera) is just not going to be as good as a real camera. I guess nobody wants to buy a real camera these days?

Very weak upgrade, and more importantly it's nearly twice as expensive as the 3G was on it's release in the UK.

They won't sell many there.

i will be buying it because of the video. Now I can record my daughter when ever I want instead of running to get the video camera. Stop crying people. They will do a HUGE upgrade when its needed. From a business point of view, if they will still sell millions of phones why completely change it.

Exactly. I didn't buy one before, but I'm definitely going to get one now.

I'm much closer to getting one as well. The reasons, if they prove to actually work as advertised -

Turn by turn directions
Stronger mapping options (for hiking and biking trails), along with auto picture uploads - that is what I imagined when I first heard the 3G would have GPS
16gb for $199

Hell, we may even get tethering with AT&T someday! Although it will probably cost extra.

The one thing I really have an issue with is "inApp" purchases. Mostly because I personally think the relentless immediacy of new purchasing options is damaging our ability to make reflective financial decisions. But I guess that's progress :)

seems like most people wanted another revolutionary new UI and a brand new redesign of the hardware. Those insane lines waiting to get a new phone will probably come along when it's redesigned it seems
And then all of you will be on here bitching that the old design was better.

I feel the same way. Features that I was really looking forward to (based on the rumors) were:

* OLED screen
* 5 MP (at least) rear camera

Not even *one* of these items showed up in the iPhone GS.

These would have jacked the price up like crazy.

Is it true that the new iPhone 3GS has radio, OLED screen, vastly superior processor and ram to allow for multitasking and a bunch of amazing stuff? :D

2x-3x faster
double the storage capacity for the same price as before
7.2Mbps HDSPA
video camera
improved battery life
voice dialing

If you think that's not reason enough to get Apple a lot of new customers and upgrades, you're nuts. Who cares if they didn't change the exterior? What's so bad about the current exterior that demands a change? Not to mention the whining about megapixels. Good grief. Any photographer worth his salt will tell you that more megapixels=better pictures is the biggest myth out there. It's the quality of the lens and sensor that really matters.

good luck getting 7.2 Mbps on ATT. I have a voice dialer already. it was free in the app store and works great. I could care less about 2 hours more to watch movies when my current battery is fine. Storage capacity updates are always nice so that is a winner and the 2x-3x faster.... it takes me literally 1/2 second to open up texts and stuff so who cares about that. I don't plan on checking someone's vitals from anywhere and not much into gaming on the iphone. I have an X-Box for that. The video camera is nice but not some huge amazing update. Thats just yesterday's technology. Any photographer worth his salt isnt going to be taking pics with an iphone. They have a real camera for that. Not doggin you, but this was a mediocre update to be lost in time when they release the real update next year to coincide with everyone's contracts expiring.

In the UK where they've massively increased the price over the 3G, even for new customers - back up to even more than the original 2G was at launch?

They won't get any customers that way.

Im just happy the new phone is gonna have auto focus capable of macro, thats a proper camera, that being said thats not enough for me to upgrade early, ill wait until next july when my contract is up, im just glad ill finally be able to text in landscape.

I've had no problem getting current 3G speeds in my not so big city in Alabama.

I have a voice dialer already. it was free in the app store and works great.
Yet now it's integrated, gives you audible feedback to make sure it heard you right and it does more than just dial the phone.

Others will disagree. Three more hours on Wi-Fi is nothing to sneeze at when you're on the road and surfing the web.

Not every app or thing you want to do is as zippy as opening texts and you'd notice that speed, not to mention everything just being snappier.

Amazingly, you aren't the one and only member of Apple's target customer base. Shocking, I know.

It eliminates one of the key bitch points people have had and allows for editing right on the phone. It's a pretty nice upgrade.

The point that whizzed over your head wasn't that people who make a living as photographers will be using it. The point is, harping about a 5MP camera vs a 3MP is stupid. You can get better looking photos from a 3MP than you can a 5MP one depending on the lens and sensor each uses. Plus, this one has autofocus, tap to focus, is better in low-light conditions and auto-white correction.

I'm sure there will be a nice update next year. Apple typically does upgrades yearly of stuff like this so big deal. It's going to sell a bunch more iPhones and not because of blind Apple fanboys. A lot of the original (non 3G) users will jump on this and it will bring in even more new customers whether it meets your personal checklist of "wow" features or not. There are enough really nice upgrades for it to be worth a lot of people's while...even many 3G users depending on what they deem to be important in feature sets.

OOOOOHH a compass and video. An extra 2 hours battery life. AMAZING!!!! I think I need to upgrade NOT!!!!!

LOL, did you really just say "not"? Did some eight year old tell you that was still cool? :D

Also, regarding your signature, if you really think so little of this website that you have to note it in every post you make, why are you here? It's your opinion of course, but kind of ridiculous to voluntarily hang out at a place you think is lame. In fact we might have a good example of irony at play here.
