Build week 30. Only issue is low 3G reception & spotty Wifi.

Tested the sim card in 3 other phones all got full bars of 3g reception while the iPhone gets 1-2. That said I do NOT get dropped calls and get between 600kbps-1200kbps even with the low number of bars.

The Wifi is another issue. I can be less than 3ft away from the AP and still be "Unable to connect." It's an issue with the phone and not settings as I can occasionally get connected just fine and it is not just my AP that has spotty connection.

My battery is great. Screen @20%, GPS on, Wifi on, 3G on, fetch email every 30min on 4 accounts and I stll get ~5hrs use and 1day+ standby.

Despite the two issues it's the best phone I've ever had/used.

16gig Black. Received mine August 12th through DF. No Light leaks, No dead pixels, No cracks (that I can see black is sometimes hard to tell). No 3G service in my current location but I expected that, I purchased because I will be moving back to Houston soon enough with plenty of coverage. Wifi works perfectly for me even though my room is on the opposite side of the house from the router. Only issue I had was my own fault. I forgot to upgrade to 2.0.1 before I added some apps so I had to restore my first day to fix that issue... since then smooth sailing.

Week 32 16 gig white iPhone, delivered yesterday. Absolutely perfect except the bezel and screen aren't completely lined up on two corners. Bottom left bezel is higher than the screen and on the top right it's lower than the screen. Hardly noticeable

I'm wondering whether new iPhone owners experience any of the issues mentioned on the forums often (cracks, dust under the screen and backlight leaks).

Please only reply if you have recently bought an iPhone. You can find the week your iPhone was produced by looking at the serial. Go to settings, general and about. It is the fourth and fifth number.

Bought mine the day before yesterday, and naturally it's too early to give any report on cracks and dust under the screen. As for backlight leaks, there are none, and no dead pixels either. I do however have the same problems as everyone else with the software -- graphics are painfully sluggish and there are unacceptable lagging issues when you type, etc (particularly in the SMS app). Also, battery life appears to be abysmal, even with 3G disabled.

It came with 2.0 preinstalled, on first sync I downloaded 2.0.1 and after only a few hours, 2.0.2 was released.

It's a white 16GB and the week number is 29 (3rd week of July).

Got a new 8GB black phone yesterday, week 32, no problem thus far (knock on wood).

Maybe the iPhone doesn't like your WiFi router. I'm getting max signal on WiFi in every corner of my flat, even when there's 20 feet and two concrete walls between the iPhone and the router. 3G on the other hand is laughable, I'm getting 40-200 kbps d/l speed in Speedtest. That's EDGE territory.

My battery is great. Screen @20%, GPS on, Wifi on, 3G on, fetch email every 30min on 4 accounts and I stll get ~5hrs use and 1day+ standby.
I'm not sure how that qualifies for "great". I used to recharge my SonyEricsson P1i 3G phone once every 2-3 days, but the iPhone has to be recharged twice a day. Granted, I've been fiddling with it a lot (charm of novelty) but still... if they're going to make it impossible for users to swap batteries on the go, they better damn well stick one hell of a battery in there. What's the point of making a mobile device that can do a billion things, only to equip it with a puny power source? It's not very "mobile" if you don't dare go more than 5 feet away from the nearest wall outlet...

My second one is better!

I got my first one on Aug 13 - a complete disaster. (came w/2.0 FW)
Replaced today with a new one (came w/2.0.1FW) - no problems so far. 3G: No dropped calls, internet seems to be "snappy", GPS is fast. It switches from 3G and EDGE and Back to 3G when 3G signal is getting too low.
Both have 32 what we think is a week, but I think it is wrong assumption.

I bought my white 16 gig iPhone last Monday (8/11/2008) at the Apple Store in Indy. It is a week 32 build and have no cracks, screen problems, bad pixels, etc. 3G calling and EDGE calling and data have been superb and the iPhone 3G holds EDGE and WiFi connections better than my Tilt did. Pretty pleased with battery life as well. GPS is quick and accurate (been using it for distance to the green in golf and it never varies more than 1-2 yards).

Does anyone have any pictures of dust under the screen? Just wanted to know how bad this gets and what I might need to look for in the future.

I sometimes have to push the Home Button twice v. once to go back to the home screen, to get out of an application or wake...
Same here... and it's not a mechanical problem, just a side effect of the horrendously sluggish interface introduced with 2.0. More often than not, it registers the first push of the button but it takes so long for anything to happen on the screen that you've already pressed again by the time you finally get to the home screen.

Build week 31 in the UK..... Absolutely flawless 16gb O2 were a bitch porting a number over tho

This is an obvious question but just so I can check, how do you find your production week number?

You can find the week your iPhone was produced by looking at the serial. Go to settings, general and about. It is the fourth and fifth number.

Mine was week 30. It had two clearly visible pieces of dust under the screen and several smaller, almost invisible pieces. It's on its way to Australia for Apple to verify that there is dust under the screen (why they can't certify someone from Vodafone to do this for them I have no idea).

Thanks for creating this thread. It looks like week 31 onwards seem to have way less problems which is helpful to know before accepting a replacement. :)

Mine was an 82832XXXXXX, whatever that means.

I bought it last Wednesday and the only issue I have is the horrendus backup time, which is a firmware fix soon I bet!
