I am on my 4th iPhone now, never cracked but did get the first one scratched up a bit after hitting the concrete of my stairs, poor thing fell down the stairs.

I have seen online cracked iPhone and I have to wonder what could these people be doing to put that much force and damage to an iPhone or for that matter any phone.

I normally don't tend to smash the door of my car with enough force to dent the hell out of it so why do people smash their phones just to put them online just to rag on Apple.

Lets all throw our Air out of a 20 foot window and then have a truck drive over them, hey look its all dented and smashed "apple product suck because... bla bla bla.
i got a massive crack on my iPhone 4, it was on the bench top in the kitchen, and when the big earthquake in CHC NZ happened it fall of the beach and hit the floor, massive cracks. i could still use it. but the iPhones do crack.

i don't think the dock connector should change, not this time anyway. maybe next year starting with the iPad. if they were going to change the dock, they would of started at the start of the year, not at the end near Xmas shopping season.
bigger screen, it doesn't worry me, to be honest the 4" on the S2 is nice, but a little funny to hold for a phone. if apple keeps it same it doesn't worry me, but i think they will. to keep in the game with the other phone makers.
nano sim, won't happen this year. it hasn't even been given the green light, so don't expect it.
i love the look and feel of the iPhone 4/4s, and to be honest don't change that isn't broken,

I love my iPhone (and iPad), but I am going to try out an Android phone if the new iPhone doesn't have a bigger screen. I just feel that if they don't up the size now with all the rumors of a larger screen and all the competition from Android with larger screens, then they never will, and I'm tired of waiting.

the apple iPhone is ageing in design it have been revolutionary in 2007 but today people like bigger screens, if apple does not increase the size of the screen to a nice comfortable 4 inch and makes a smaller dock which too me seems pointless how can a smaller dock benefit us, i will be hanging on to my iPhone 4 till the next iPhone iteration. however i have noticed my iPhone 4 is laging nowadays i hope apple makes a bigger screen and a newer design as i wouldn't want to buy something i already have.

Well, that would obsolete a lot of very expensive docking devices like speaker systems which can run into the hundreds of dollars. I for one would not be happy, but I really do not see this happening. The Apple connector standard is now ubiquitous in the market from speakers to cars. I just don't see it happening. There is no benefit to Apple and it would slow adoption through upgrade.
I agree, They may have to change sometime but it would be a brave step, unless they come out with an adapter so its still can be connected old docks.

I love the 4 and 4s design, it'a less is more design which is just right and as someone says is symbol of confidence in your design.

Jonny Ive will march to his own drum and not react to the monstrosities currently being sold by Samsung.

Perhaps more than one iPhone and iPad size will be announced?

!!!

It would be nice if the next iPhone had some feature specific touch sensors below the screen like Android devices, for multi-tasking or back button. That would compliment the taller height well. I don't know how Apple would feel about an awkward aspect ratio by enlarging the wide part of the screen only.

Could be, theoretically, but definitely won't because Apple wants to break it's own iPhone sales record. It's two and done. ;)

Also sometimes it's just matter of getting the technology ready in time. For instance I'd suspect Apple really wants to use thinner bezel in their next iPhone design. However that means they'll have to wait until the new in-cell LCD production is good enough to take on the massive demand.

Ugh. I hope they redesign it. I don't like the iPhone 4 design– much prefer the Original / 3G / 3GS tapered design. It's easier to hold.

I see the current iPhone like the Porsche 911, the design will be tweaked but remain the same, Why change when its perfect.

you want a bigger screen buy a tablet, Its the iPhone not the iPda, its primary task is telephone calls, the current form it the perfect balance between usability's and portability, once you go to the super sized its no longer portable.

Its built for the masses who want a phone with the internet, email and apps, not tech geeks that want there laptop in there hand just to post of forums moaning about unreleased products.

I'd bet the phone capability is the least used function of the iPhone.
A 4.3"-4.8" phone will fit in a standard pants pocket no problem. The Note may not but if you can't fit a 4.3" phone in your pockets then your pants are probably too tight.

This is not acceptable.

Four inch screen is the new standard. I hate my 3.5 inch iPhone screen.

It is not big enough. It doesn't need to be huge 4.7 inches or anything but 4 inches would be a great starting point for the new iPhone.

I am fairly upset over this news.

I'll buy it regardless....

Of what they change or don't change, but I really have a hard time thinking of anything I'd REALLY like to see in the hardware. Plenty I'd like to see in the software, like a real file management system.

The 4S is just about perfect. I wish they'd increase the battery life but I can easily live with charging every day.

I hope the folks at Apple surprise me with a new iPhone that is something else I didn't know I couldn't live without - like the original iPhone and the iPad!!

That's going to suck if the aspect ratio stays the same but the screen size goes to 4" I'd rather just have the same size screen.

So if this new iPhone doesn't have at least a 4" screen people will leave iOS for Android or Windows instead? Maybe Nokia's CEO was right when he said consumers don't care what OS is on their phone...

I'd hope they'd include an adapter - who am I kidding, it would be a $30 add on.

It's the other way around: The build large phones so that they can build large batteries into them, which drain slower. If other companies would still build 3.5" phones, you'd have a dead battery after 2 hours.

Not exactly. Our assumption is that the 3.5" iPhone and 4.x" iPhone have the same components. So, what that means is that the 4.x" iPhone will inevitably drain its power sources faster than will the 3.5" iPhone. Now, you are right that the increase in the size of the phone will allow one to increase the size of the battery within it. So our question becomes this: does the proportionally larger battery in a 4.x" iPhone compensate for the proportionally greater battery drain of the 4.x" iPhone? I think our obvious answer is: we simply don't know.

However, if you could demonstrate that the larger phone will have battery life, then it might be worth it for Apple to increase the size of the iPhone. But so far as I can tell, the iPad which is much bigger than the iPhone, doesn't have a better battery life than the iPhone. They don't have the same internals, so the comparison isn't perfect, but it does give us an estimate of what gains or losses we can expect by increasing size. What it does show though is your formula for "bigger = better battery life" doesn't always work out. Now, here is the kicker, the larger iPhone, with the bigger battery and higher battery drain, will require longer charging periods, assuming again both the 3.5" and 4.x" iPhones have the same connectors and chargers. That is a disadvantage in the 4.x" column.
