If going on the new iPad then i think the new SE2 will also get the A10 which will last easily the next couple of years before it replaced again with the SE3.

This article seems to be in disagreement on this. Apparently the majority of post 6S iPhone buyers don't care enough for it to have them drop Apple iPhones; however, it would appear that most current buyers would actually prefer that the headphone jack be included. It may particularly be negatively affecting sales outside Western markets. As to folks who complain about the lack of the jack, it's not arrogant to express disappointment with design "features" produced by a company that traditionally produced products for the artistic/creative community, which includes audiophiles who still value the wired option. This also applies to decisions to remove still useful ports from the Mac line (though they still sport the 3.5 jack).
http://bgr.com/2017/08/03/iphone-8-headphone-jack-survey-android-switchers-nope/

I may only be one person, but it's the only reason I don't have an iPhone 8 right now.

This is why they have wired headphones with a lighting port.
That aren't compatible with any other device I own either. I don't get why people have such a hatred for the headphone jack, if you don't use it, great. But a lot of people still do and the dongle is a ****** solution to a problem that didn't need to exist.

If Apple believes in a wireless future, they have to include a pair of wireless headphones at some point.

I'd rather use the included lightning cables and have a choice rather than to have to pay an extra $150 for wireless earbuds. Or did you mean for the same price? And if so why not include all the current iPhones too?

The chipset Apple will use for the next SE will mainly depend on how much it costs Apple, and how long they will want that model to run before a refresh.

These are the costs of the chips at the time of introduction - the older the chip, the more they cost to keep the production line running:

A9 - $22.

A10 - $26.90

A10X - Cannot find the cost.(iPad Pro 10.5)

A11 - 34.90 A11 Bionic (iPhones 8 and 10)

The costs surely they must be less now.

The next chip is a supposedly a smaller 7nm die.

Will Apple run two foundries simultaneously to produce the A10 and the A10X? Not likely.

The A11 is on its way out if the 7nm chip comes in on time. So, unless Apple is throwing away the A11 die, that is what I expect in the next iPhone, with another 3-4 year life.

If it is not the A11, just because Apple likes to stagger power levels, it will be the A10X, pointless but still fun.

The A10X is a SOC with a high performance graphics on the chip and uses much more power to run. There is no way with the SE tiny battery that it would even run a hour before need to be recharged. LOL!

Hello, 2012.
What a dumb idea to release a fourth version of iPhone 5.
This proves Apple is not a forward thinking progressive company post Steve Jobs’ death.
Release something innovative in 4 inch size.
Very sad.
Innovation costs money. This a budget phone.

If its cheaper with thin bezels, dual cameras and Touch ID on the back I just might sell my X.

The 5S is/was my favorite iPhone design.

Freedom from wires??? You (and Apple unfortunately) are forgetting the big picture.

I’m Not forgetting anything. I simply have taking advantage of the convenience of the AirPods without the 3.5 mm Jack. I don’t expect others to share my preferences, but nor do I care about the “Big picture”. Everybody will have varying opinions with wired or wireless.

How about the freedom from being forced to buy yet more expensive wireless headphone hardware?

I always find it interesting when someone uses the word “Forced” in their posts about what a tech company does. Apple doesn’t _force_ anybody to do anything. You have options and they provide the 3.5 adapter. If you don’t like it, then simply find another smart phone manufacture that doesn’t include the 3.5 Jack.

And freedom from dongles when you're stationary for hours at home or work and need to simultaneously charge and use one of your dozen corded headphones that aren't going away anytime soon?

Apple made the decision to delete the 3.5 MM Jack. Again, if it inconveniences that much, you have options. It’s one of those decisions that you have to make that either you move on to something else or use the alternative where you can use an adapter that allows you to charge and listen to your headphones at that same time, and of course there are Bluetooth options. The consistent complaining about it isn’t going to change anything Apple Already did.

For you. I’m completely content using the AirPods, great products that delivers excellent battery life and decent audio.

A10 is fine. It was a significant upgrade from the A9 (greater than the A11 was from the A10).

With an A10, Apples lowest end iPhone (the SE) will still be faster than 98% of Android phonesin the world. Not bad for your “budget” device.
********, A10>A11 is much bigger than A9>A10
A11 10500 multiscore
A10 6000
A9 4500

No. A big no. We don’t need more government regulating stuff. If you want a phone with a head phon jack (100 year old technology), there are plenty of other choices.
100 year old technology that still sounds better than bluetooth junk.
[doublepost=1524299386][/doublepost]
The A10 would be perfect. It still is an amazing SoC. The A11 is better of course but there’s really nothing significant that the A10 can’t handle well.

As for the headphone jack, it probably comes down to them wanting to certify these as IP67. 86ing the jack would be the quickest way to do this.

These retail for $350 and $450. They’re a bargain especially for people who don’t need the most powerful device nor all of the extra bells and whistles much like the new iPad compared to the iPad Pro. Why buy an iPad Pro if you don’t want a Smart Keyboard and don’t need nor care about the limited display and 120hz refresh rate?
explain how s9 and v30 have headphone jacks and IP68?

What is the SAR Radiation emission on the AirPods? Strangely, Apple won't tell us for the device that goes in our ears, but it does for their other devices. https://www.apple.com/legal/rfexposure/ and 3rd party testing doesn't look good. http://macintoshhowto.com/hardware/extreme-emf-exposure-from-apple-airpods.html https://www.saferemr.com/2016/09/airpods-are-apples-new-wireless-earbuds.html

Neurosurgeons are concerned. Why assume the product is safe and regret it later? Is it OK to make that decision for minors? I'll stick with wires or speakerphone...Just not worth it.

The A10X won’t be appearing in any iPhone - it’s designed for the larger thermal envelope of iPads, doesn’t have the RAM on board (so you’d have to find space elsewhere on the logic board) and the GPU isn’t nerfed to make an 1,800mAh battery sufficient to run it for more than a couple of hours...

I’m certainly not trying to be dismissive of your post, but I could actually _could care less_with any type of radiation from the AirPods. I use them solely for my personal enjoyment without worry about unsubstantiated claims about radiation. I would be more concerned about radiation from a microwave or the sun than I would be from the AirPods.

Get Airpods. I even paired it with my PC and been using it on Windows 10 with no issues. Apparently it even works well on Android phones

while the correlation between radiation and brain tumor has not yet been scientifically proven with studies producing contradictory results while claiming it may simply be too early, I for myself try to be aware of how and for how long I use my cell phone and/or any wireless headphones. And I ask my loved ones to do the same

I prefer not to end up being the first case proving a clear connection, when there really is no need to, you know

I am well aware there is plenty of radiation surrounding us almost anytime anywhere, but the same is true for smog if you live in or near any big city and I am glad I quit smoking anyways

The SE really is a confusing product. It looks about 8 years old at this point but is a good design. If apple just removed 99% of the bezel from this design it would look better than the iPhone X.

The key to a successful SE is it should be small, have a great camera and no bezels at all, Touch ID on the back. Be super cheap with a lower powered cpu for longer battery life.

The SE really should stand for Small Edition only. Not Cheap Edition where it currently stands.
[doublepost=1524309520][/doublepost]
Not to everyone
I certainly don't need Taptic or haptic feedback, if they put the Touch ID on reverse and use swipe to home instead. Also no need for force touch either, both represent large amounts of internal space and huge costs for no real benefit.

Saying Apple removed the headphone jack to sell AirPods might make sense if they hadn’t included a free adapter for the 3.5mm plug, or free lightning headphones. But they did, so no one had to buy AirPods.

Other Bluetooth headphones are also available, some are under $10. No one was forced to buy Airpods. Buy whatever suits your ears/budget.

Literally, you can use any set of headphones other than AirPods, and they would still work with the newer iPhones (or the older iPhones that still had the jack).

But if Apple had killed the jack and made newer iPhones only work with AirPods—then I’d definitely agree with you.

Just because they allow other BT headphone brands, doesn't mean it's not purely a revenue driving decision on Apple's part.

Most/lots of Apple users want the best - so they'll buy the headphones made for/by Apple.

Apple don't need to aggressively lock the audio output to apple headphones only - they still make more money than they did, and gain control over the audio signal right to your ears (future DRM anyone?)

3.5mm jack makes them no money.

Now though, a sizeable proportion of all iPhone purchasers also buy AirPods, which, if bought year after year, make apple money FOREVER....

On the dongle: I'll repeat:

The provided dongle is absolutely no solution - what happens when you switch headphones from phone to laptop say....do you leave the dongle hanging from your $1000 phone? Or do you put it in your pocket until you can lose it?

It’s a total joke to think anybody can consider that dongle a viaible alternative to a 3.5mm jack. It’s a bullsht gesture from Apple. The experience using a dongle is designed to further ‘encourage’ people to upgrade to their expensive, disposable Airpods.

No one is satisfied with using a dongle to use 3.5mm headphones.

Finally - genuine question - you own a phone without a headphone jack don't you? No-one would ever try to justify an anti-consumer money grab unless they'd bought into it personally.
[doublepost=1524310588][/doublepost]
There’s a world of junk out there for you to choose from.
[doublepost=1524279883][/doublepost]
The 3.5mm is so great I’ve had it surgically implanted in my entire family.
[doublepost=1524279996][/doublepost]
The notch is here to stay *baby*!! Embrace or be left behind!

If you'd like to debate these issues, happy to discuss - just replying with sarcasm reveals you have no argument.

Saying "switch to android" might be the most ridiculous suggestion ever.....Why don't I sell my house and live in my car because I don't like the view from my window?!?

Apple removing that jack was anti-consumer. I find it bizarre that consumers end up defending the moves which f*ck them. You must own a phone without a headphone jack - the cognitive dissonance is strong....
[doublepost=1524310907][/doublepost]
I’m completely content using the AirPods

+ 1 on the AirPods!!

Get Airpods.

I'm glad you like them - they are great for some people.

But I don't want to subscribe to my headphones (after ~2yrs they stop working because of the battery and you have to re-subscribe/re-purchase to continue the experience).

For me, no wires is not worth hundreds and hundreds of dollars, every couple of years, forever..

Now give me back my headphone jack....

No one alive can justify the removal of that headphone jack for anything other than profit, and I challenge anyone to attempt to do so.
