If they'd announced an SE Plus, I'd probably have gotten in line for one - but my existing SE2 does what I need.
I went from the 2020 se to the 13 mini and totally agree. The battery life improvement was amazing. My SE barely hung on for a day, but the mini can go 2 days for me before needing a charge. And the form factor of the mini is slightly smaller than the se so it fits well in the pocketThe 13 mini is still so much better with everything v this SE and offers so many more add-ons. Wait, you say? The Mini is still a couple hundred more? Well worth it with the type of display alone.
Only disappointed with the price. At $570 you inch close to the 12/13 Mini which are truly next Gen when compared to the iPhone 6 design.I get people are underwhelmed in this little bubble, but lots of regular users don't care about extra bells and whistles of the Pro and Pro Max. It isn't for me, but if I wasn't such a tech enthusiast I might get one, lol. When it comes to most other things, I usually get the cheapest option that gets the job done.
I want a mini a lot for its size and weight.I went from the 2020 se to the 13 mini and totally agree. The battery life improvement was amazing. Since they didn’t say how much more. 1 minute more is still consider better battery life ?Better battery life is always a good thing.
It will have at least the same (if not smaller) battery as it is lighter than the 2020 SE.Or you could say it’s a upgraded SE2020 (which was in turn based on the iPhone 8).
I wander if it still has same 1800 mH battery though. Still, good to see these battery life improvements for the new SE compared to its predecessor, and loving that wallpaper.
It’s worse in countries like mine where we have highly inflated prices vs US MSRP.It won't and based on past data, it'll attract some Android users on prepaid plans in the U.S. and Europe. The vast majority of price sensitive users around the world will continue to buy an Android with 6.42" OLED and quad-camera at this price.
On the SE form factor, nobody cares about such speed. They may has well gone with a 1 gen older chip that wasn't 5g, and given more physical battery to make people happy. In my country (Korea) this phone costs much more than $429. And add to that, now that it is 5g, carriers force you to buy a 5g plan with it, which is another $10 a month more expensive than a midgrade 4g plan. If they had kept it 4g, given it 1 step higher CPU, and much more battery, this phone would grab Android users. But nobody will want this. I predict you won't even see it in many stores, here. It will be an online purchase, only.Yes they may have more features, but none of them, not even the Galaxy S22 Ultra can match the humble SE2022 in terms of performance. Many of them can’t even match the SE2020 In fact.
Long live the miniThe 13 mini is still so much better with everything v this SE and offers so many more add-ons. Wait, you say? The Mini is still a couple hundred more? Well worth it with the type of display alone.
I will be honest. I am disappointed in this "upgrade". Is it physically the same battery, with just an A15 bionic? I expected more actual physical battery, in addition to it. A claimed 2 hours improvement likely means half of that in real life. And we heard same price point for weeks in rumors. Without a larger battery, this announcement is a slight fail. No reason to buy this over something like a used previous generation 11 or 12 iphone, for me. I am an Android user considering Apple. And no... 5G is no real-life draw, for me. Give me more battery life. MUCH more. An Android user who buys the SE doesn't get a taste of Apple and want to upgrade to a more expensive Iphone. They get a taste of terrible battery life and go back to Android. Apple, what are you thinking with this?
Can it keep all of the 2020 iPhone SE and gain some Android users? That's what matters.I don't think this phone could "lure" 100 million Android users given the $429 price point. You can get a better, bigger, phone for less.

I was looking at as a potential option, yes. But the battery life tests of the 2020SE on Youtube were so off-putting, I decided to wait for this model. I literally didn't care about a single upgrade on this phone, but a bigger battery (and maybe 4gb memory). 5g is of zero importance to me (in fact, it forces a more expensive service price bracket with KT/SK/LG Telecom, here in Korea). I would have rather they gone with the A14 ((or even kept the A13) and saved me money, as it's plenty fast in this form factor. Now I'm exploring other options, after this lackluster announcement. Perhaps this is just not the time to go Apple. We'll see. I might just keep saving and pick up a slightly-used Iphone13 from someone who wants to upgrade to a 14, later. Were you planning to buy one?
The A14 is worse in efficiency though (see the iPhone 12) that it would obliterate the SE’s tiny battery. Apple has no choice other than the A15. And imo Apple’s goal is to have all their iPhones to be 5G capable by the end of the year (iPhone 11 is the last one to go).I was looking at as a potential option, yes. The correct combination for entry-level consumers with a phone like this would have been: Much better battery, A14 chip, 4g connectivity only, 4gb ram, same or lower price.
To be fair, Samsung is also releasing the a53, which is turning out to be a dog. The a52s has better specs. Both of those phones are real competition for grabbing Android users. This week has been a real downer for phone announcements.
People at this price point and screen size don't care about having an A15 chip, as they will never approach its capabilities in this form factor. Should have gone A14, added much more battery, and not raised the price past that psychological $399 number. This phone will fail, sadly.
You have fair points, but how many times have people said Apple will fail at something and been wrong? ?I was looking at as a potential option, yes. Don’t buy the Mini. This late in the season, I would just wait it out and to see what Apple releases in September. I’m telling you, ‘buyers remorse’ is a very real thing. Unless you need to upgrade now, I certainly wouldn’t invest in the Mini.Hmm. I'm due a new phone. Do I pay NZ$800 for the SE or NZ$1250 for the 13 Mini?
I recently bought a OnePlus 8T to replace a poorly-performing Android-based tablet. US$399 got me a lot but I have to deal with Android and this wretched keyboard.I was looking at as a potential option, yes. Buy a XR if you can find one. Or the 11 is still available in many brick and mortar retailers. If you still find the 11 a little pricy, then consider the Samsung S20fe5g on the Android side. It’s still a very capable phone.I was looking at as a potential option, yes. But the battery life tests of the 2020SE on Youtube were so off-putting, I decided to wait for this model. Well....it is almost twice the price (700 starting vs 430), has a notch, and faceID. I personally hate faceID, touchID was/is amazing and the perfect way to use a phone (imo). FaceID fails so often and you have to type in your passcode (masks, sunglasses, night in bed, etc). Also hate the notch. But yeah, if you like the mini then go for it. The only thing I want in the SE is a bigger battery but ce la vi...The 13 mini is still so much better with everything v this SE and offers so many more add-ons. Wait, you say? The Mini is still a couple hundred more? Well worth it with the type of display alone.
