does anyone remember if the 3gs was subsidized for people who bought the 3g on launch?

i purchased my 3gs on launch and i'm wondering if att will offer an early upgrade.

i have heard that if your bill is over 100 bucks a month they'll hook it up.

Mine was subsidized, and I bought the 3G on launch day. I think this will be the same again.

I know someone who works in an office which is conjoined to an apple office...

They said that they were stood behind an Apple employee in an elevator who had in his hand a spec sheet with 'iphone 4(g)' on it and with pictures.

Now, I am not saying that it was the iphone 4g on there, it could possibly be pictures of mock-ups... Would apple study mock images floating on the net out of interest?

Anyway the image showed a much squarer iphone (as in less rounded corners) and a much thinner edge round the top and bottom and a smaller button at the bottom.

I looked through google images with this person to see if there were any mocks online that looked similar to what they saw and we came across this image on flickr which is attached below. (edit: plus another similar image)

I must point out these are NOT the images they saw, but just similar in style to what they saw... with the thinner edge and smaller button...

Also as mentioned above this apple employee who had the sheet may have been looking at online mocks (for some strange reason)

Coincidence??

Is it not possible that the person in the elevator was being slack?

Especially being the same elevator used for both businesses, and the person was an apple employee?

Why would he be looking at fakes? Interesting all the same!

Apple are SO secretive, I don't believe that they would ever have any design documents relating to future models in an office which was shared, in any way, with any other organisation. If they did, you can guarantee that someone would have found stuff and posted it before now.

Tiptopp

True...

But to be specific it is the shop in Regent street in London, probably their main hub in the UK.

And the offices there are in the same building (albeit different floors) as other businesses, that use the same elevator as each other.

ugh thats hideous mock up to big almost looks like a ipad personally if the iphone is really any biger in width by more than a few inch's id pass and go for 3GS the current size is perfect for the iPhone.

he's talking bout 4th gen iPhone  4 G network probally wont be on till 2011 model

I agree with this as well... It probably said iPhone os 4 but was misinterpreted by the viewer...

I predict as much as anyone else that it will be HD this year and possibly 4g next year... we probably do not have the capabilities for 4g in the Uk yet

I dont think it will be much, if any wider... Just shorter... which gives the illusion of width

Does anyone know if they will update any other products on the iphone update day? Like a Macbook spec bump or an Air spec bump. Something small that dosen't warrant it's own 'day'.

Your bill has to be $100 before taxes, fees and surcharges. Your plan features must be over $100 month.

Apple don't send some one down an elevator with specifications for a highly anticipated new release. Your friend (or you) is an idiot.

Is it not possible that the person in the elevator was being slack?

I doubt he was looking at anything, and if this "he" person is really real.

He wasn't talking to you, he was replying to someone elses completely different quote.

And in other news, Apple won't be stupid to release those ugly iPhones :)

Oh and don't always believe your friends.

This.

I bought my iPhone 3G on launch day in 2008 and was unable to purchase the 3GS subsidized when it was released ~1year later. My monthly AT&T bill is ~$65 before taxes...

I hate the fact that the internet gives people the right to bad mouth people they do not know. This person you are talking about is my girlfriend, who has no reason to lie about anything like this. If she didn't see it she wouldn't say.

I on the other hand do care about what she noticed and thought you guys may be of interest.

I doubt he was looking at anything, and if this "he" person is really real.

If you re-read my post I said that it was a spec sheet of some kind, but may have been a spec sheet for a mock which floats around the internet. The guy had it in his hand, enough said.

Those image I clearly stated (again:rolleyes:) were images that I found on the net that look 'similar' in style to what she saw i.e. thin edges, small button and squarer corner. I did not say they were the phones and so you are right, Apple will not be releasing them espiecially considering they didnt draw them ...

In conclusion, we still don't know anything and JDee is a d-bag. :D

Exactly.

I just just plainly stating that some one from Apple had a sheet in the elevator at (probably) the main hub of Apple offices in UK which mentioned iphone 4(something) on it and showed a device which looked different to the current iphone and ipad.

I did not state that this is the new iphone, it could purely be coincidence but thought it may be of interest.

What I would like to know is - was it actually an Apple product on that sheet or not.

To be honest, she's probably got a much higher chance of seeing any rumored device than most people just by working in the same building, and slips do happen.

I know I'd quite happily take a new device with a thinner edge and smaller button!

Anyway, I suppose we will see on the 22nd June!

I'd prefer if you didn't mock me as anyone with a trickle of brain cells would know that these details are fully confidential and some Apple guy just wouldn't walk about with highly private information. If your girlfriend saw the sheets, so can anyone. I doubt this guy or girl who was carrying this information wouldn't want to get fired.

I stand by my case. The button is small enough as it is. It won't change.

sorry to ask this, i'm sure this is common knowledge to all but i'm just wondering - how long does it tend to take, once an announcement of a new iphone has been made, for the phone to released in non-US countries (thinking of my country, Ireland, in particular)? I ask this because my Blackberry has caved in on me and was thinking of buying the 3GS (have never had an iphone) at the weekend but am wondering would i be as well off to hang on for a couple of months?? What would people do - buy or wait!?!?

Hi there,

I'm from Ireland too :D

Last year, Apple released the 3G S on 8th June 09. It was available in the UK, US, Ireland and other major countries on the 28th June I believe.

The 3GS was released on June 19 here; unfortunately, I don't remember exactly how long it was before it was released in other countries, but I'm pretty sure it was fairly close after the US release.

thank you for the replies. I don't know why i had it in my head that it takes a couple of months for them to be available.
I have the chance of buying a new 16gb 3gs for €350 at the weekend so I really don't know whether to wait or not. Mind you, the chances of me being able to afford a new version, which i presume will be quite pricey, is fairly slim!
