If the button to make the headphones beep is on the iPod, the only person who has the iPod while you're wearing the earphones is you, i.e. no pranks 🙂

I can see that, but what about, if the function ONLY works when the headphones are disconnected from the iPod. What's when you need the feature and the pranks are then useless. 🙂

If the wireless headphones are disconnected from the iPod (i.e. not wirelessly connected), then how do you propose to have the iPod page them?

😉

Cheesy

Am I the only one who thinks these new ads are cheesy and the music blows chunks? How about some ads with actual music instead of slice-n-diced beats with the usual helping of samples... boooorrrrriiinngggggg... 😱

Yep, you're the only one. In the whole wide world. Every single person on Earth besides you thinks these ads rock, including all Rio employees, Dell employees, and Napster employees.

Heh -- I find it too funny how picky people are about music. That's by no means the music I would listen to, but I love the ads and thank GOODNESS Apple finally started to create ads with people besides caucasians. (sure, sure, there have always been a few, but within the last year or two, things have gotten *much* better on that front)

At any rate, like it or not, these ads will appeal to a population (mainly particular age group) that is so often left out of Apple's advertising campaigns. The Eagles just don't cut it wih 18-25y.o.s 🙂

Doh... You're right.
😀

The new iPod ads... They are ok, but I think they could come up with something smarter, hipper or more fun.
Then again, Apple likes their ads to be cheap, so they have to be creative with their slim budget.

I could go for a Beethoven or Mozart ad with a guy doing an 'air batton'. I would definitely describe some of their music as 'rockin' 😀

Please submit your ideas with graphics proposal, script and cost estimate to Apple or their advertizing agency. I'm sure they would jump on the chance to improve their campaign.

New Ads

At the Apple Soho NY store I saw a few new Ads that I had never seen before for the iPod. They were part of a Quicktime movie loop that was played while I was waiting for the next seminar to start. The Ads were new to me. However, what was of note was the title of the Quicktime file in which these commercials were included: "Pre-Panther. "

Evidently, we should expect a new marketing campaign to begin right after Panther is released. Kind of obvious, but thought I'd chime in.

Just because I think they can do better doesn't mean I have any current ideas. ( but give me a week 😀 )
They have the campaign they want, but that doesn't mean it couldn't be better. Apple commericals have long been statements commericals, which is fine. They air for a very short time and have a good afterlife online. But they could make some fun commericals, where they really show the strength of OS X and the iLife apps. I think Apple get many more new customers from word of mouth, than they do from their ads.

Today I noticed iPod banner ads on 2 different MBTA Buses. One was purple and one had a green background. It was at the Forest Hills Station that I noticed the ads! The bus that I got on for my ride home had the ad wiith the green background! 🙂

There's a belly laugh ad playing on British TV at the moment - a sextagenarian showband playing a very slow version of the Stranglers' song Peaches. Maybe the younger audience doesnt get it, and right now I cant even think what the ad is trying to promote, but maybe to accompany the iPod ad, a rousing hooked on classics philarmonic rendition of some happening hip hop tune would appeal across the generations.

I dont even know what the current iPod ad is about by the way, but I just got a good mark at uni for some natty marketing slogans that I conjured out of nowhere, so I feel I am qualified to stick my pennyworth in. 😀

"Barbara Coulon, vice president of trends at Youth Intelligence, a New York trend-forecasting firm, said the iPod is mainly responsible for Apple's high profile among young people. Still, though many trend watchers cite Apple as hot (or cool, depending on how you look at it), the company doesn't appear on all the indexes of cool. For example, Lucian James' American Brandstand, a weekly list of product "shout-outs" in the Billboard Hot 100, makes no mention of Apple, Macs or iPods, according to Wired.

"Apple hasn't shown up in Brandstand because it's too nerdy," James said. "Cell phones are cool, iPods are too niche. They also don't seem to have the hip-hop appeal that is a prerequisite to get into the Billboard chart"

hence the new ads. case closed.
everyone who isn't a hick knows its all about the hip-hop.

That list is of brand names mentioned in songs, not about brands recognized by producers or consumers of those songs. You can be sure that all the bands in the top 100 know about Apple, the iTMS and probably most of them have iPods.

Maybe they haven't made a song with 'Apple' or 'iPod' in the lyrics for fear of being sued by Apple.

Has this ever been done by Apple?

I was driving here today, I'm in Miami, and saw an ad on a bus stop for the iPod. The black silhouette with the magenta background. I found it odd, but there it was!

Maybe they could do an ad to promote the audio books. They could have the silhouette of a stoner passed out on the floor, listening to Gene Simmons' autobiography, ocassionally shooting his hand up in the air displaying the "devil" sign.

I don't think it would be a bad idea to have a little print campaign for the audio books, think about all the ( older ? ) people who have the $ for ITM and iPods but couldn't care less about 50 cent or P. Diddy.
