 I know saying anything against the Beatles gets many people's knickers in a twist here....but like I care. This song sounds like it was written by a 5 year old. Why can't he just retire like everyone else?

Yes, like all aging pop musicians trying to stay relevant, they just dumb down everything as much as possible. This song and he can't possibly get any more vanilla.

Or.......do you ever think that maybe some musicians, if even just a few, do it because they love music and they love to make it. I'm not a huge solo beatles fan, but I admire the drive.

It's not like this song or beatles songs are difficult to write... Plus he has an army to do any of the "hard work". He's probably just trying to make back some of the money he lost in the divorce of his crippled wife.

Maybe he's just writing the music he wants to write. If he were trying so hard to stay relevant, he would sound "edgier" wouldn't he? He'd do a duet with Akon or something. Actually, I'd like to see that.

You sound like one of those people who see a piece of art and simply reduce it's worth to something you could have done in your spare time if you thought of it. Yes, something SO simple and not to difficult at all, and you didn't think of it. You're a genius and I have to listen to what you say.

Somehow difficult songs are something we should strive for then as well?

Also the guy still performs live and tours with his band and is THE richest musical artist in the world with a personal fortune of nearly a billion pounds. He doesn't in fact need to do anything.

"According to Guinness World Records he has sold more records (400 million), penned more No 1 hits (50) and played to a bigger paying audience (350,000) than any other songwriter. It has made him the richest rock star in the world, with an estimated personal fortune of £825m."

Is there any need to mention his ex-wife and her physical state as if somehow that backs up what you're saying when it doesn't.

Not much to add here (haha, see what i did there?), but i must say the silhouette iPod ads always make me feel warm and fuzzy inside.

Credit where credit's due, these are great.

Edit: That's not to say i love the song, i just always find these ads entertaining to watch, and they remind me of Summer here in the least Summery place in the entire Northern Hemisphere.

Agreed. This is one horrible song. In fact, I thought it was a spoof when I saw it last night during the Spurs' clean up job...

Everything McCartney's done since the Beatles has sounded like limp pub-rock. I mean Wings were a joke.

Lennon at least put out some half-decent tunes but, heck, Imagine is one dreary dirge.

Ringo's voiceover work totally upstaged the other Beatles' solo efforts.

Who has listened to the new album? Would you recommend it?? I have always liked the Beatles but have never listened to his solo work.

Despite a LOT of positive press you'll hear about this album, I did not like about half. And I'm a very big Beatles/Paul/Wings fan (I own most everything of theirs/his) -- This album would be a good one to cherry pick off of iTunes with -- however -- if you go iTunes Plus**, it might make more sense to just D/L the whole thing. Cherry-picking from the iTunes Plus albums yield about 8 songs for just over $10 and there are 13 songs on the regular non-deluxe version.

I lucked out and read (on this forum, no less) that Circuit City was selling it for $9.99 last week so I feel like I got at least my money's worth by buying the physical media.

If you've never listened to his solo work -- I would highly recommend ALL MY BEST -- if you want to sample (heavily) his Wings work, I would tell you to get WINGSPAN. Tons of incredible stuff there.

My personal favorite Solo studio Album of Paul's is TUG OF WAR.

If you want to hear something of his that's more recent to compare with, I'd say one of his best in a while is FLAMING PIE (which was about 4-5 albums back).

** DAMN.... just noticed this isn't an iTunes Plus offering -- WTF!! Why would they do that?

Start with "Chaos and Creation in the Backyard", his 2005 cd. Then, Band on the Run (1973) and Tug of War (1982). Those are the highlights of his career. If you like what you heard, your next stops would be "Ram" (1971), "Red Rose Speedway" (1973), "Flowers in the Dirt" (1989), "London Town" (1978). A nice anthology would also be "All the Best!" (1987), but I would start with the first three I mentioned (I'm a fan of whole albums, more that greatest hits compilations).

He does look a little freaky, but this ad was very well done! I like the part where he whistles and the Apple logo kind of just... forms. :)

I wonder how much Paul was involved with the actual ad design. It has an iPod-ad flavor, but also a hint of Yellow Submarine (the movie, not the song). Although I don't think the Beatles had much to do with the movie.

The song reminds me a bit of [playlistId=76715093&s=143441&i=76714956]City of New Orleans[/playlistId] by Arlo Guthrie, but I can't say exactly why. Maybe the pace and chords are similar.

At first I thought it was a little creepy. Come on...look at this...

But on a serious note. Really watch the ad. He is walking to the beat of the bass drum. And when he does the step hop step, the drumb does three quick beats. Even when the electric guitar comes in when the houses start to fly away, he does it again. The head bobs to the beat sometimes. It's just so cool how they cover every detail. And just as he is about to finish whistling and the camera moves away, he is looking exactly where the :apple: is going to appear.

Upon watching this ad under closer inspection, I think it's a true masterpiece - both in terms of the cool art/tech used but also in the music/emotion. Really a well done ad. This ad and the ad with flathead were the best iPod ads of all time. This one is really super though.

I think we are all missing the point here.

The video for this song stars Natalie Portman and that guy from Pirates of the Carribean who keeps losing his eye.... And its directed by Michel Gondry.

Holy Hannah!

Did I just watch Tiny Tim lurch back from the grave with his ukelele?

This skippy dippy Puff the Magic Suppository geezer rock is creepy! I'm going to see that google-eyed bastard in my dreams tonight, hopping around the town in his grandpaboy tennies!

....Thanks for contributing more to popular culture than Paul, I'm glad you can look down on what he has done because you've done so much more for us. Beatles btw, not Beetles.

Perhaps you should read more carefully that quote by Bruce Lee you have in your signature???

McCartney is such a tool lately. if John lennon was alive he would have a talk with McCartney. plus his new cd is horrible. there is a banner at Starbucks that says "an album worthy of his musical legacy.", God I hope not!

I too am not very keen on the album, but I do like Mr. Bellamy very much :)
