I don't understand at all why apple would make the nano bigger.

Because they're supposedly adding video playback - to make the screen bigger, you have to make the unit bigger. Although it seems like the mockups just look bigger, they actually say that they're about the same width as before, just shorter.

I'm totally fine with that, maybe it's finally time to upgrade from my original shuffle.

I thought these colors looked a little girly, but when I looked at the current ones, these are actually less girly. Personally, I'd like to see some DARK colors, like a nice british racing green or deep navy blue or dark burgundy purple. That would be very cool with a metallic finish. But as people have mentioned already, the colors apple has come out with that were mocked the most often ended up being the best sellers.

Yawn. I hope both a new nano and iPod offer more than just a lame color and font change. Apple has a big problem, which I'm sure they realize, namely everyone in America now has at least one iPod.

I guess you haven't been following the rumors...these nanos are supposed to have video playback, which is a huge addition, especially if prices don't go up. And do you really think "everyone in america" having your product would be considered a problem by most companies? I'm sure virtually all would kill for that.

I assume if they do video playback they'll have video output from the jack like the full sized ipod? And what about battery life for video, would it be as bad as the current video ipod or is there room for improvement since it doesn't have a hard drive?

I like the Black, Silver and Wine ones. However I am not about to buy one for every color shirt I have.

My next iPod will be an iPhone, so this makes little difference to me.
I have an 1G iPod Shuffle and I still use a lot even though I still have an iPhone. The iPhone is too cumbersome when running/exercising for me.

Makes sense to use the shuffle instead. Besides is a lot less weight and you can hook it just about anywhere. Watch that clip, it may hurt, LOL.

Aside from this whole debate about colors, I think the iPod refresh will really conclusively establish 9to5mac.com as a reliable or unreliable news source. So far they've only had a couple very general correct predictions on the new iMacs, which seemed to be echoes of other rumors... We'll see what the refresh brings, though.

I'm still a bit mystified by the decision to add video to the Nano. I don't see it adding much value. The iPod Video screen is already too small to be really useful for video, so what's the point in enabling it on an even smaller device?

Maybe they'll surprise me, but I'm not totally sold on it yet.

The current iPod Nano already supports photos. So why is the Nano screen size ok for photos, but not for video? The rumor also states a bigger screen than what the current Nano has too.

Uh, if that's really the design of the new nano I find it terrible. And why no white? If this will be confirmed, it will the second item (after the new iMac) designed by Apple that I don't like. :(

I don't think it's all that good for photos, either. Just too small.

Something seems off here. The mockup looks amazing, but there still remains one key problem -- unless they make the nano wider, which seems unlikely, the screen will still be too small for video.

I have a bad feeling about these updates. With the iPhone release, Apple created a serious problem with respect to their iPod product lineup. I just don't see how they can keep everyone happy.

I know. I mean, all they adjusted for these colors was the hue, saturation, and luminosity. Where's the originality? I mean, come on! Couldn't they have invented some all new colors that no one has seen or even thought of before?

LOL :D

you know, when I was young (so much younger than today...;)), that's what I wanted to do for a living, invent new colors!
I guess finally I was right to think twice... ;)

I could see the redesign and new colors as being part of the rumored iPhone Nano. Otherwise, the nano is just fine the way it is other than perhaps a storage upgrade.

Obviously the many people who have bought video ipods don't agree that the screen is too small.

Also, the rumors haven't really been clear if the nano screen is staying the same or getting a little bigger.

Personally, I do the vast majority of ipod video watching from a cable to a TV. For that, screen size isn't an issue. I'd love to see video playback on a nano, if they had had that when I bought my first video ipod, I likely would have gone with the nano instead.

If there was really a problem, wouldn't iPod sales be off? Sounds like they are as strong as ever. I can see an issue if they release a touchscreen ipod, basically an iphone minus the phone, for the same price (or close, or more) as the iphone. But I don't see how adding video playback to the nano is going to make anyone unhappy.

I bought a video Ipod last year and noticed it was significantly slower than previous ipods when switching between menu's. I hope the new Nano does not have video, just a great music player.

Sounds like you're happy with what they have now, why not just buy that and not worry about the next release?

Very nice too!:)

What happened to my mock-up...?

I posted it last night and it was fine... now I see it has gone...
Back again...

Not sure whether it was posted before. Not having a PINK version in Japan will mean likely a 50% decrease in business ....
