That would be because the loop doesn't cost a thing - they are scraps of material left over from iPad Smart Covers and Smart Cases. In my opinion, the loop is cheesy and pretty useless, but oh well, what do I know.

I agree, I have decided I will NEVER use it and only buy a case that covers the loop :)

I think the loop could have some cool uses - imagine it as a mounting spot for mics/lights or other add ons - I think the loop is an example of what can be done, and that accessory makers could find some cool things to use it with - we will see ...

I never thought about that. That's actually a really good idea.

I have a theory. What if you just can't toggle it? It could be there, but be on by default and unable to be switched off. Maybe it's just not optional anymore? I hope that's the case... I really like auto-brightness

Ahh, good point. So it will still have auto-brightness but just not the toggle.
If the toggle isnt there then Apple could possibly add it back on with future iOS updates depending on how people respond to this. Either way, I'm looking forward to upgrading my 3rd gen to the new 5th gen. Can't wait! :D

Look at the flower petals. iPod touch photo lacks detail and sharpness. It can't be simply explained just the difference in megapixels. iPod's camera lacks some optics quality vs iPhone.

iPod touch:

iPhone:

Of course the camera is waaay better than iPod touch 4th gen. Still, I was expecting at least the quality of iPhone 4S camera.

Hmmm... well to me, in just these LQ shots, The touch looks like it takes really good photos.

This is a comparison between the 2 new devices and the iphone5 is always going to have a better camera. To see the quality so close (it's very similar, at least in these shots) makes me happy. I don't think you can look at the two and say "wow, that touch can't even compare with the iphone5." The camera should be pretty much the same thing as iphone4 users have which is used by quite a bit of people. He should've also taken a photo with the 4G just to show how horrendous that thing is at taking pictures. My 4 year old dumb phone takes better pictures!

I think that new ipod touch has actually light sensor. but apple intentionally blocked it by software. or we don't know whether it is iOS 6 bug or not. we have to wait until ifixit.com will take it apart. but I am sure that it has sensor. otherwise, it doesn't make any sense.

I can guarantee for absolute fact it does not have a light sensor.

They never did with any previous iPt models.
Of course they did with an iPod touch 3rd gen. It was packed earphones with remote and mic. I own one :)

Unfortunetely it doesn't have any sensor... Otherwise it would be noticable on white model. For the reason uknown Apple ditched the sensor...

Strange, my white iPad 3 seems to be missing its ambient light sensor, then!!

The white 4th gen had a sensor, but theres no noticeable mark on the front...

How can you guarantee this? By citing the users guide like everyone else? Or have you actually gotten your hands on one and taken it apart? Because really, barring getting your hands on one, all you're doing is citing the users guide, which could be poorly worded. It makes no sense to update just about every feature of this device while leaving out a feature that has been there since the original first generation of the device.

it's on the front page of this site

Let's just say I have a reliable source I can't talk about. But I promise you it's not there.

As the iPod is a device to listen to music, why on earth would anyone use Apple's Earpods in the first place? With or without remote or microphone.
Apple never have made any speaker that was any good, and if you fork out a lot of money for an iPod touch, you might as well get some decent 3rd party headphones. Apple should never include headphones with their iPods, just drop the price a little.

It's on the front page of this site. No autobrightness toggle. Stop dreaming.
We all know there is no toggle. But what people are debating here is if the hardware is there and enabled by default.

Because on my iPad3, the ambient sensor is the tiny faint dot right above the front facing camera. There is no way you can see it on a video or web-quality picture.

The fact that you can't use Auto brightness and it's missing in settings?

Read earlier comments. Who is to say that it exists but that A software toggle switch does not? It's a toggle switch that I've never used.

I'm not saying that it does exist or that it doesn't. I haven't received mine yet, and I know that none of you have either. So all we're going by is a users guide, conflicting screenshots and web material, both of which could be wrong. Jus' sayin'.

It's not in the settings, meaning there's no ambient sensor. Besides it's also mentioned in the recent Apple's manual from iBooks store that the autobrightness setting is reserved only for iPod touch 4th generation. Forget it.

Also, official Apple specs

Do you still need more proof? Is anyone else gonna negate the lack of ambient sensor in the latest iPod touch?

I'll be pissed if the light sensor/auto-brightness is gone. It's like de-contenting for cars. You get the shiny bling, & they hope you don't notice the reduced basic functionality (I.E. crappier brakes, & suspension, poorer quality parts).
If Apple's going down that road, I'll be holding on to my money.
I'll give the touch a fair try, but it's going to bug me any time I have to adjust the screen brightness.
