For me it seems a bit weird to release/refresh products every day like this, just so that the keynote could 100% focus on a new streaming service that everyone already knows about. If they really update iPods too, I'm ready to think that they will actually release something bigger alongside the streaming service during the keynote, like the new Mac Pro.
But maybe I just like the idea too much that "it's show time" would also refer to a product they've already told us about, which is supposed to be released this year and which has a lot of expectations towards it. Instead of just being all about the new streaming service and maybe some TV-shows and movies.
That’s exactly why I think they are (or may, still haven’t seen what they do today and tomorrow)are doing this. The big announcements (can’t really call them a reveal!) on Monday won’t appeal in the same way as their traditional base who largely still looks for hardware related announcements. Apple has made plenty of big service announcements in their keynotes but this may be the first time a keynote is (almost) exclusively about services, and services that are ancillary to tech. For example, Hollywood Reporter is going to be bored/put off by iPod updates but all about official statements on the streaming and news services they’ve been reporting on for months. Apple will appease the tech press who are less interested in the services by mentioning the updates and giving them hands on opportunities after the show. While it may look and feel like a regular keynote, this is shaping up to be a very different event for Apple.

I’m 100% confident there will be no Mac Pro and pretty sure there will be no hardware at all—if there is it will be directly related to these services (ie OS updates, Apple TV, etc.)

Do you think there is a chance it may have an iPhone XR design?
Not for that price. Both the iPhone and iPad models with FaceID are min $100 more. I don’t think Apple will risk alienating a price conscious market. I don’t know how many are bought as test mules—I bet Apple has a pretty good idea—so maybe I’m wrong.

Not if they keep the same price. They just released the new Mini and it still has an home button.
I wonder if they'll keep the 3.5 jack on the iPod. They may use the same chassis and just update the A chip, that would be the cheapest option so I think they'll go for it.
FaceID will eventually trickle down to all the iPads and maybe the iPod touch if they'll keep it into the lineup, but for now TOuchID is cheaper and good enough

An updated chip / ram combo is all I am really asking(well better camera and battery would def be a plus), touch ID on the iPod is less usefull (to me) as most of the important stuff will be on the phone anyway where biometrics are securing them.

THe HP jack should remain, I am ok removing it on the phone, but a music device should retain it.

Now for the software, we erally need them to push a bit more on FLAC and DSD support and I 'd be in heaven (no it won't happen but one can dream).

A little while ago I stumbled across my Touch (latest model) which has lain untouched in my sock drawer since the day I finally sprang for an iPhone. For old times' sake I recharged it and fired it up. One thing immediately caught my attention: it came with FaceTime preloaded. Why in the world provide FaceTime on a device with no capacity? I started fooling around with it and quickly discovered that if it is the same Wi-Fi network with an iPhone it functions pretty much like an extension phone on a landline setup using the same phone nr. as the iPhone (it can send and receive calls and dial calls from Contacts. My house is relatively large with two stories and so I set the Touch downstairs in my den and kept my iPhone in my upstairs office. No more lugging the iPhone back and forth, as long as I'm in the house my iPhone functions as a desk clock. I was so happy with this arrangement that I picked up a second Touch on eBay for less than a hundred bucks, where it functions not only as a second extension phone but as a bedside clock radio (with the help of an Anker Bluetooth speaker which cost me only thirty bucks).

If Apple publicized this capability of the Touch that might stimulate sales a bit.

What do you mean by "Why in the world provide FaceTime on a device with no capacity?" The iPod touch can use FaceTime without an iPhone.

I still use and will continue to use the iPod Touch to listen to music. I prefer this to cut down the charging cycle and keep separate and extend the life.
I use my ipod touch at work to stream music to the shop area. I also use it on my motorcycle in the summer so I don't have to fiddle with my phone. While camping we also use it.

So many uses...

Quite a few wrote it off. And don't forget, it can still be used for browsing internet over wifi.

This new approach of drip feeding new products out via press release is a smart way to secure maximum attention for each major announcement.
That said, I don't think there's a new iPod ever coming out again. This is a product of the past.

Yup. My thought since yesterday was that this was a mistake. Monday: iPads, Tuesday: Macs, Wednesday: AirPods (not iPods). I predict no new products the rest of this week.

I agree if not released today then it won’t be released at all.

It's in iOS code, so it's very likely to appear at some point. If it is a big form factor change (particularly if it's refocused and heavily tied into gaming on iOS as rumoured) it could even conceivably be shown off on stage for the first time since 2012...
